Check it out folks! At $59.99, you're getting a whopping 84% off of a 5-year license. But it gets better. BurnWorld is extending this to a LIFETIME LICENSE exclusively for BitsDuJour customers purchasing today. This option isn't even available on the DrivePop website!

You think you’ve got your bases covered, since you back up all of your key data every night to an external hard drive. Yet, your backup strategy is doomed to failure in the event of a fire, flood, or some other catastrophe that physically destroys your external drive and computer. The best backup plans involve copying your stuff offsite, and the best way to do that is with today’s discount software promotion, DrivePop Online Backup!

DrivePop Online Backup is the easiest way to make a backup of the files you don't want to risk losing! With DrivePop Online Backup, your data is protected from any local harm, since it lives online, far far away from your house in a secure military-grade data center that itself is protected with redundant drives and security systems. Your cat photos have never been this protected before!

You don’t even have to remember to execute backups with DrivePop Online Backup, since the program runs silently in the background, harvesting and uploading your data automatically. Best of all, when you use DrivePop Online Backup, you’ll be able to access all of your files and folders on your cloud storage using your iPhone, iPad, or Android device!

Tim John I have 1 x W8 laptop and 2 x W7 desktop. Would all 3 be covered with 1 license?
Sunday at 2:21am
Maz Hi, can i backup all documents (ebook and softwares) as i did with an external backup? I may need to format my laptop so i need a reliable backup where i can easily download and install everything like usual (i don't want to store half of my stuff on your website and half of it on an external hard disk. It would be great if i can keep it ALL on your website). Lifetime license sound great! Do we get Unlimited Cloud Backup Space too? Thanks.

Danny Sounds nice! But still have some questions: what is the Gigabyte or Terabyte is allowed, there is a limit?

On the Tab ' The Fine Print ' I read that there is a future upgrades versions of 50% must be paid. Then it sounds less beautiful than it first seems!
Sunday at 9:17am
BurnWorld Hi Danny, in the fine print it says this : "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for current subscriptions. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

This is just a pre-written phrase that BitsDuJour has us select to add to the fine print.

But to clarify, with this offer you will never be required to pay for updated versions for this plan. This is truly a one time lifetime plan.

Also for those really digging into the terms, the phrasing used in the fine print says that "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for current subscriptions." So for anyone taking advantage of the offer will be considered with a current subscription, which then means that all upgrades to future versions will be free.
BurnWorld - Sunday at 9:38am
BurnWorld @ Tim John Yes all 3 of your machines will be covered under this. And all future computers you get too.
BurnWorld - Sunday at 9:41am
Danny @BurnWorld,

That's great to hear! My next question has not been answered: what is the Gigabyte or Terabyte is allowed, there is a limit?
Sunday at 9:45am
Maz @BurnWorld - Can you answer my questions above?
Sunday at 10:01am
BurnWorld Hi Maz, yes you will get unlimited backup space to backup all the files you want. Just understand that 'cloud backup' is perfect for doing what you want to do. But the files must be restored 'somewhere' within 30 days after they are deleted from your hard drive. Either to your new laptop, a different external drive, an old hard drive, any other hard disk, etc... This is not the plan if you want long term storage. But we do offer Cloud Storage plans too which is referred to as our SYNC plan on the site, this would be ideal for long term storage because it's essentially a 'virtual' drive that you can access from anywhere. I just wanted to point that out since this is the #1 question we get about cloud backup. :)
BurnWorld - Sunday at 10:13am
Danny But what if this thing goes bankrupt? What happens with our stored data's (backups)?
Sunday at 10:18am
BurnWorld Danny, won't say it can't happen. But 99.9999% sure that we'll be around for the long haul. By partnering with the right vendors, we have made sure that our service is secure, reliable, and will be around for a long long time.
BurnWorld - Sunday at 10:23am
Maz Thank you for your explanation, BurnWorld. Of course i will restored all the software since i need it. So, there is a limit to store stuff on your website? For example, i want to store ebooks on your website then i''ll have to restored it somewhere else within 30 days otherwise it will be deleted? May i know how much is the SYNC cost? Can i set some folders to be private and some shareable? Thanks. :)
Sunday at 10:24am
BurnWorld For the backup plan there is no limit for backup storage. So yes if you do a backup of your ebooks and then delete it from the computer it was on, you would need to restore it within 30 days somewhere.

The SYNC drives start at $59.99yr and offer 512GB of cloud storage. This this drive you can make any files shareable. The rest would be private.

Note that this is a separate product then what the offer is here for Unlimited Cloud Backup. The great thing with both products is that they go hand in hand or can be used separately depending on how you want to use the cloud.
BurnWorld - Sunday at 10:35am
Danny I like to use the 14 days trial version wik to test. But what can I fill in as best a subdomain?
Sunday at 10:52am
BurnWorld You can use anything you want as your subdomain. Just need to be 4 letters or numbers and not taken already.
BurnWorld - Sunday at 6:11pm
Rick Bauer If you don't delete a file from your computer is there a time limit as to how long it will be stored?
Sunday at 7:12pm
Danny @BurnWorld,

I already understood. But I mean more can you give an example or a tip? Should it as example: "GTEL" or "YKDR" or "7598" or "5603"? Even though it has nothing to do?

Rick Truell Roger/Nico/BDJ Staff: You might want to check into this deal a little further before it goes live. In the promo copy, it says: "Check it out folks! At $59.99, you're getting a whopping 84% off of a 5-year license. But it gets better. BurnWorld is extending this to a LIFETIME LICENSE ...". Also, in the comments, BurnWorld told Maz "yes you will get unlimited backup space to backup all the files you want." and also told Tim John "Yes all 3 of your machines will be covered under this. And all future computers you get too.", which implies 'unlimited computers'.

First of all, BurnWorld doesn't have a '5-year license' for any of their plans; the 'Starter', 'Family' and 'Professional' plans are billed either monthly or annually, and all of the other plans have lifetime licenses. Not a good start.

Now, paying the 'Professional' annual rate of $74.99 for 5 years (note: not a 5-year license, but a 1-year license renewed 4 times) comes out to $374.95, for which $59.99 is indeed 84% off, and since those are the figures mentioned in the deal, presumably that's what it's supposedly for. Normally, however, with the 5th renewal, you'd have to start paying the full $74.99 per year for this plan...but BurnWorld has "extended this to a lifetime license". So, the deal is now for a lifetime license for unlimited backup space for unlimited computers...except that's the description of their 'Ultimate' plan, which normally costs $69.99; see about half-way down http://www.drivepop.com/billing/cart.php So, in reality, this upcoming deal is *actually* for their 'Ultimate' plan with a $10.00 (14.29%) savings...not exactly the 84% savings advertised.

Lastly, the promo copy says "... exclusively for BitsDuJour customers purchasing today. This option isn't even available on the DrivePop website!". Since the option *is* on their website and thus available for anyone, it obviously *isn't* exclusively for BDJ customers.

Lots of misleading info in this deal.
Sunday at 10:12pm
Danny @Rick Truell,

"Lots of misleading info in this deal"

That might seem so, but I see there no snags hang out. I expect though that described promotion as a kind of order in writing also get guaranteed proof!
Sunday at 11:11pm
Don Wilcox Please note: If your backup plan is to do a mirror image backup of your entire system drive, including data, for someone with a lot of music, videos and ebooks this could easily equal or exceed 50 GB (gigabytes). This is equal to 400Gb (gigabits). At a typical 5Mbps (5 megabits per second) upload speed you would need to spend over 22 hours every 30 days uploading a new mirror image.

Also, files uploaded are deleted after 30 days. So if you discover you lost a file and it was lost over 30 days ago you have truly lost the file.

Google "foolproof backup strategy" for tips on creating a foolproof backup strategy. Unless you have a very high upload speed from your ISP a DrivePop backup will best be used as a second or third location backup copy of data files for sharing or for day to day recovery use to avoid digging out your primary backup from its offsite location.
Monday at 3:32am
Danny @Don Wilcox,

Who would the whole pc system + personal data's online backup? I do this only on my second hard disk or external drive. To more than so many Gigabytes to online cloud backup will irritated many hours questions!
Monday at 5:44am
Don Wilcox There are than a few people that use a mirror image program (True Image for example) to do their backups. And not all them will be aware of the very long time it would take to save such a back up to any online file storage system, not just DrivePop.
Monday at 6:01am
Danny @Don Wilcox,

You are right in there! I use True Image to my external drive. Thanks for your comments.
Monday at 6:06am
Don Wilcox Glad to be of service. Check with your ISP to see what your upload speed is. Some providers are now providing much faster upload and download speeds.

For those that don't know the difference:

1 gigabyte = 8 gigabits = 8000 megabits

An uppercase B, as in GB, MB and KB represents bytes.
A lowercase b, as in Gb, Mb, Kb represents bits.
A Byte = 8 bits
mbps is megabits per second
MB/s is megabytes per second.

Do the math to determine your upload time and remember that actual upload time will always be slower than the calculated time. Especially when it is comprised of multiple files instead of a single file.
Monday at 6:19am
BurnWorld @ehab Signups are secure is used with https Thanks for pointing that out, we had some internal liks pointing to http instead of https.
BurnWorld - Monday at 12:51pm
Danny @BurnWorld,

Is it possible to change your chosen subdomain name later?
Monday at 1:48pm
BurnWorld @ Danny, yes it can be changed but you would need to do another backup from your computers to this account. This would happen automatically though.
BurnWorld - Monday at 2:01pm
Danny @BurnWorld,

I do not understand completely. You mean new backup transfer to DrivePop?
Monday at 2:10pm
BurnWorld @Rick Truell To help clear up some of the 'misleading' let me help clarify a bit. The pricing you found the other day was intended to be hidden, as they are not everyday products that we currently offer. This was an oversight on our part. As for this offer it is Unlimited backup for Unlimited computers.

Our current billing is set to signup for monthly or annual but you can sign up for any number of years that you want. So 5 years would be $374.95. In trying to determine what the best pricing would be for our deal here at BDJ, we chose 5 years for the price. But in actuality the savings could be much higher if you choose to actually use the service for life. I can see how you can think this could be misleading as it's hard to determine an actual value (since it will be different based on usage and user), but at the end of the day this is only $60 for a lifetime of backup service. And also with our product offering snafu on the site.

I'm happy to clear up any other questions or concerns you may have.
BurnWorld - Monday at 2:20pm
BurnWorld @Danny if you change subdomains after you have done a backup, then you would need to do a full backup again from your backup client. But because the login will be the same for your new subdomain, the software will see that you have nothing backed up in your account and start a new backup process.

But to keep things tidy, just pick the subdomain you want to use from the start, and you won't have to worry about this. :)
BurnWorld - Monday at 2:22pm
Danny @BurnWorld,

That is now clear! Thanks for your quick responses! Maybe I'll use my last name as subdomain (my last name has 4 letters).
Monday at 2:43pm
Richard Andersen As I understand it, files deleted from your computer will be deleted on the online backup after 30 days. I assume that means that as long as you have a file on your computer, it will also remain in the online backup?

Or in other words, the online backup will mirror the files on your computer you have selected to backup, deleting any file you delete on your computer with a 30 day delay?
Don Wilcox The way I read the website information is that every file stored in your DrivePop account will be deleted every 30 days. That means you must do a full backup no less than every 29 days to insure everything on your computer is backed up. Once you have deleted a file from your computer you will have 30 days from the last time the file was backed up to recover it from that backup. If you want to keep a specific backup more than 30 days you need to save it on a local drive or transfer it to a DrivePop account (or a different service) that offers perpetual storage.
BurnWorld @Richard Andersen @Don Wilcox
This is correct. This is a cloud backup service that mirrors the files you want to make a backup of. It's basically digital insurance. When it's determined that a file has been deleted, our servers will keep that file for 30 days in case you need to retrieve it. The servers won't automatically delete every file every 30 days. It just does a check to see if anything has changed on the client side, and if so makes the same 'mirror' of the files you have chosen to backup.

And if long term cloud storage is necessary (over 30 days), this would be an additional service called SYNC which is also listed on the site.

Our offer here is for our Cloud Backup. Feel free to ask me additional questions about the service.
BurnWorld - Yesterday at 7:28am
Richard Andersen OK, thanks. So with "long term cloud storage" any file you have uploaded will remain on the backup server indefinitely (as long as you have an account) whether you delete it from your computer or not?
BurnWorld @Richard Andersen
That's correct. The SYNC drive is essentially a virtual drive and can be used for long term file storage. You can also easily share content in this drive with anyone you choose.
BurnWorld - Yesterday at 8:00am
Don Wilcox If I edit a file that has been previously backed up will the service keep the old version for 30 days as well as the new version or will the new version replace the old version?
BurnWorld @Don Wilcox The server keeps up to 30 versions of a file, so the old one will not be overwritten by the new.
BurnWorld - Yesterday at 8:12am
Justin West If by "lifetime" it means I can use the unlimited storage forever without further fees, then this is really a great deal.
However, what I am concerned is how long this online service will exist. Even gigantic companies could discontinue their online services, say, MSN.
Don Wilcox Thank you. Good answer.
Danny What I notice here now on: There must be at least every month (30 days) a change with backup or synchronization, if not then be removed all existing backup anyway. Is that so?
Gavin Phoenix @Danny The software that you install continually checks for updates on the PC and with the storage so you do not have to constantly upload the files every 30 days because it only starts counting down the 30 days when it notices you have deleted the file from your PC.
J.C. @BurnWorld

For what i can find online this is based on LiveDrive and you are a Live Drive reseller. Is that correct ?

Are the servers based in the EU or in US ?

Adam Chen Is this deal refundable if I am not satisfied about the upload/download speed? I am in Asia.
Darko Johnson Would this cover my home server as well? It has all of the families data (pictures, music, movies, etc, etc..), so this really is the only computer that would need to be backed up.
Adam Chen Is this "Lifetime license" based on Professional package or "DrivePop Sync"?
Brent Burdick A) Just to clarify this 30 days business per questions by Don and Danny, I think it is important to point out the following:

1) The backup software must remain installed on the computer being backed up so it can monitor for the presence of the file or its deletion. If files are not confirmed as present by the installed software within a 30 day span, they will be gone.

2) The backup software must be operational and it must connect with the service at least once every 30 days even if nothing new is backed up. This could be important if the computer is not used for extended periods, if the user will be absent for extended periods of time (i.e. month long sabbatical, maternity leave, etc.) or if occasional manual backups are preferred over automatic (example: I would turn off automatic in the case of large backup sets on a laptop with high priced bandwidth while traveling).

B) As to the storage limit. There is a 5TB limit for external drives considered by the PC to be a local drive (like an attached USB, Firewire or eSATA device).

C) As to the server location. Currently, the servers are located only in London, UK. Testing of bandwidth from your provider should be done.

D) The service is intended to backup "data files" only. Some file types are excluded (like virtual machine images) and others, like True Image backups can be, but are not technically allowed.

Emma Sousa I noticed the plans have a family for up to 5 computers...what if I want to do this for the family plan? I hit buy and usually it jumps you to the vendor site and you can choose your plan on such deals, however it seems that this is for one computer and I have at minimum 2 laptops and possibly a netbook to backup. Please advise.

Ralph Bressler Would it be possible in the future to easily change from BurnPop to SYNC storage without uploading all of the backup files again?

Danny Sorry, but with all those stories and conditions I am going even less understand and takes my enthusiasm away!

Robert Reese @BurnWorld

I have a couple of questions before I jump on board:
1) Please tell me about the encryption.
2) I use Linux, and will continue to port more functionality over to Linux from Windows, as I have no intention of continuing beyond Windows 7. How will I be able to use this service with Linux (and encryption, of course).

Thank you,
Robert Reese~
