1st Clock

Supercharged Clock, Calendar, and Reminder System

1st Clock

How many different applications do you use to keep track of your appointments? Sure, you can see what time it is by looking at your System Tray, but I bet you're also pulling up a calendar to check the date, a task manager to view your meeting schedule, even going to the internet to look up the time in different parts of the world!

1st Clock replaces your taskbar clock with a supercharged version that features a fully customizable clock display, offers views of multiple time zones, alarms, atomic time synchronization, a pop-up calendar, and more! With 1st Clock, you'll know the current date and time with a single glance. Plus, you can configure 1st Clock to display CPU and memory load indicators, so you'll know right away if your PC is acting up. By synchronizing with several atomic time servers, 1st Clock will always be your most accurate way of timekeeping.

1st Clock is an indispensable tool for anyone who conducts global business, with the ability display up to 32 different clocks representing different time zones. But knowing the current date and time won't do you any good if you forget an important appointment, which is why 1st Clock offers one-time and repeating alarms that come complete with eye-catching balloon notifications to grab your attention!

One more bonus feature -- calendars! With a single click, you can have 1st Clock display a one or two month calendar, which you can use to add alarms or instantly see the difference between two dates.

Written by Derek Lee

1st Clock lets you:

  • Supercharge your taskbar clock!
  • View the current date and time, or your CPU and memory load.
  • Keep track of the time in different time zones.
  • Use alerts to never forget an important appointment.

This is a *wonderful* product.  I'm very happy I got it.

I purchased the "family" license the last time BDJ offered it (Thanks, BDJ!).

It's worth it just to have the time and date all shown together very compactly in the lower left of the system tray--with SECONDS and the DAY, month, and DATE.  (All very customizable)

I also really like the very convenient (just double click) two-pane calendar.  It's complete with the little touches that make it much more useful.

I also use its internet time-server synchronization.

It also has convenient alarms, phase-of-the-moon (pass over any date and see the phase for that day), difference in days between dates as you click on the calendar, reminders, etc.

Though I have lots of screen real estate, this app is *very* considerate and though very readable, it is *very* compact.

    *Really* nice!

Purchased this app last year on BDJ and have been impressed since installation. No problems at all, low memory use, plenty of customization and a very useful and unobtrusive memory and CPU bar which can be optionally incorporated into the clock display. Alarm functions are easy to use and  work well. Recommended.

Not to take anything away from this utility, which clearly has numerous features which Windows doesn't, but I just wanted to point out that some of the features which people have mentioned are already built into most recent versions of Windows.  XP and higher already do Internet time-server synchronization.  None of these types of utilities do true time-server synchronization, for that you need a true NTP client (there's only one for Windows), but I won't go into that since it's overkill for most people.  My taskbar is auto-hidden anyway, so I would have to bring it up to see a taskbar clock.  Vista already shows the day/date, local time, and up to two other time zones when you point at the taskbar clock.  If you click it, you get that information plus analog clocks, local time to the second, and an interactive calendar.  Then, there's the Vista Sidebar, with standard clocks and calendars available without searching for others, which you can also do.  Again, 1st Clock does more, but Windows already covers the basics.

1st Clock provides very nice SNTP sync, with up to 1/50 sec precision. And it is actually much more reliable and configurable, then built-in Windows sync.

Of course if your taskbar is auto-hidden, you can't get 1st Clock best features - all of the required date/time information, in any format for several time zones, without requiring any action, mouse movement or clicks - always visible!

William Gurvitz, I'm not going to get into the complexities of Internet time protocols, but as you say, Windows and almost all utilities are using SNTP, and you can't claim any kind of precision with SNTP, only NTP can manage that, but most users shouldn't be running a true NTP client since it requires knowledgeable configuration to function properly and to avoid adversely impacting the NTP network, and of course it helps if some people run public NTP servers to share the load, but Windows doesn't have adequate real-time response for that.

This looks like a nice clock replacement. It may not have the accuracy of NTP as explained above. But who cares if it's a few micro seconds off. The rest of the feature more than make up for that.

i like this clock. if it did weather like my current clock (weather clock, by respect soft) i would consider purchasing. any chance of that happening dev? 8)

We'll add weather to our suggestions list :)

Scott Carney, while you're waiting for weather to be added, you might take a look at a previous offering here, YoWindow.  It only displays temperature in the tray, but pointing at the icon displays current conditions, and clicking it displays a visual representation of the weather at the current or future time/date.  It's very, very clever, there's a lot more to it than first appears, as well as some "Easter Eggs", see their forum.  Free and commercial versions are available.  It's low overhead, but doesn't give alerts or display radar.

@ William Gurvitz. thanks. i think i will grab this on the 10th for the wifes rig. consider bumping weather up to the top of that list ;) also. do you think we will see ActionOutline offered on BDJ at some point?. i currently use, and have been trialing similar offerings. i really like ActionOutline.

@ Frank Stephens. i actually have a license for Yowindow. neat app. i am looking at different ways of doing what it does though.

We don't know about ActionOutline on BDJ, but if you purchase 1st Clock (or any other our software), then you can order another product (like ActionOutline) with 30% discount!

@ Daniel. No, you can't put it on a website.

Does the calendar feature sync with Outlook or will I have to double-enter items?  I cannot dump Outlook because it sync's with my smartphone.

    Scott Carney (Rising Star)
William. i did purchase 1st clock (family license) i see where to get the 30% off but it only allows this on the standard version? how does one get 30% off the Secure Edition of ActionOutline? also. i can see where networking abilities could bring a premium price. but encryption? thats pretty much a standard thing these days...
  • May 10 2010 3:21pm
William Gurvitz (Green Parrots Software Vendor)
@ Scott: we sent you a link with all versions at discounted price to your email. As to encryption: not all users require it and want to pay less for a version without it.

@ Jonathan: Unfortunately calendar does not sync with Outlook.

I did not find an explanation about 1st Clock family version.

I have pcs in various rooms of my house. Is the license valid for all of them or only one?
  • May 10 2010 6:22pm
William Gurvitz (Green Parrots Software Vendor)
@ Max: The family license covers all your family pcs! More specifically it allows all your family members to use it!

I know it's late for a question, but I'll try regardless. Does 1st Clock have a countdown alarm?
  • May 10 2010 7:44pm
William Gurvitz (Green Parrots Software Vendor)
@ Gary: unfortunately, there is no countdown alarm in 1st Clock.
  • May 10 2010 7:59pm
    Gary Hawk (Bright Spark)
Thanks for the quick reply. I may give it a try despite it not having a countdown alarm.
  • May 10 2010 8:09pm
    Frank Stephens (Visitor)
Gary Hawk, the free Respect Soft Vista Clock for W2K and higher has a countdown timer/alarm.
  • May 10 2010 8:16pm
William Gurvitz (Green Parrots Software Vendor)
As a workaround, instead of countdown alarms, you can setup an alarm that will run after for example 15 minutes from now. And you can add an additional reminder to this alarm to run, for example, 5 minutes before this alarm.
