unfortunately, Aba cannot replace text in Office documents, because they have a complex proprietary file format. But I've added this feature to our TODO list.

Frank Stephens This is a very well-written search / search-and-replace utility. Lean, exceptionally fast, easy to use. This was one of those utilities that I don't normally need, but after checking out the website and features, even though there are freeware offerings, this was well worth the purchase just to have available. The incremental search speed is astonishing. The product is excellent, but it could do with code signing. As for ordering, I hate Plimus, and you can't use a "free" email address (I strongly prefer Gmail).

Naveed Ahmed I just tried the trial and I agree with Frank. The incremental search is amazing! And I really like the leanness of the program, where most of today's programs are seriously bloated.

Frank Stephens I really hope that people take advantage of this BDJ offering. I know that weekends see less traffic, so hopefully this offer will be repeated in the future on a weekday. High-quality code is rare, such vendors are to be rewarded. NTWind and MicroInvention CrossGL also develop good software. CrossGL SnapDraw was offered here a couple of times, but it's now freeware. People think that's great, but it's a disaster. It means that sales were too low, and development has ceased. For me, the search feature of Aba Search and Replace is more important than the search-and-replace feature. Yes, you can get similar freeware, but I haven't seen anything this well written. Incremental search is always active, and the speed is incredible. Yes, I have an SSD and RAID, but it still takes time to read and search through files. Aba read through 6,700 files, 11.5GB, in around 4 minutes, with the UI fully responsive. Smaller folders are almost instantaneous. I'll probably be finding all sorts of uses for this. People just don't understand Windows 7 Search, many claim that it's unreliable. It never fails to find things in indexed locations if you know how to use it. If finds files containing content, but generally doesn't show the content within the files (except for the first match in Window Explorer's Content view). For files and content which are indexed (saved files from IE8+ on Vista+ generally have to have their Indexing attribute set manually) using natural language queries with partial matching enabled, the key thing to remember is that property values can be (and generally should be to avoid a property name match) abbreviated (as in one or more characters left off the end), but property names must be spelled out. If matching files are found without visible matching content, and no match in *any* of the file Properties, it means that invisible content matched. For example, that can happen a lot in HTML and MHTML files. While you can show the source and then search, you can just right-click the file name and use Aba Search and Replace, just start typing in the Search tab and the incremental search will instantly show you all matches with surrounding context, and for some file types, there will be syntax highlighting. Instead of a list of file extensions to search and replace, Aba has an extensive list of extensions to ignore, which of course you can edit. People should really check this offering out. Not only is the download very small, but that also includes the installer, the Help file, and the examples.

SoftCollector I add my vote to the above posts about Aba being lean and mean, but until search within Office files is implemented we have to agree that its application is rather limited.

Frank Stephens SoftCollector, search and replace of plain text is a limited application in general, but since I don't use MS Office, I don't care about MS Office files. MS has some links concerning Word search and replace, you may have seen them or you may need other Office file types. Search these articles for "Unicode", since that's what you requested:
