What are people saying about AbstractCurves

Louis H From "THE FINE PRINT" section......

"You must install/register the software while the promotion is active, and cannot do so afterwards."

???

Clarification, please.

Was that meant for a free version, or does it really mean once we purchase it we can only install it during the time allowed for the discount?

I've come to accept that BDJ does not take time to review all its ad copy anymore, before having an offer go live, but I would like to purchase this and be able to reinstall it in the future.

I first started using this through another giveaway promotion elsewhere, but would gladly pick up a paid copy at this price, as long as I can reinstall it as needed in the future.

Constantin Florea @Louis H, I've just contacted the vendor asking him to clarify the part you mention of the license policy.

Constantin Florea @Louis H, The vendor replied and confirmed the correct phrase is:
"You can install/register the software at any time."

This is now updated in the license policy in "The Fine Print" tab.

William W. Geertsema In July, I downloaded and installed version 1.1 from Giveawayoftheday, only to discover that the default GUI was illegible, and that there was no apparent possibility to select another color theme.
I had hoped that this deficiency would have been corrected in the present version 1.190, but it does not appear to be. At least, I canot find it. Neither can I discover an "About" window, to confirm I now have a registered version with lifetime free upgrades.
My only solace is that during that lifetime a legible GUI may be offered.

Louis H Thanks again, Constantin.

And for William W Geertsema..... along with William User's hotkey combo, in the lower right corner there is an icon with a "?" inside it. That is where I access both Help and the "About" info.

That said, where are you seeing that there are "lifetime free updates?" According to "The Fine Print," it states that major version upgrades will require additional payment.

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

wts Unless I missed something, here is another company that does not identify itself in any way - no address, nothing about the principals or developers, no answers to questions here, nothing readily searchable about the company. Our only guarantee about the company is that they are known to BDJ and presumably vetted by them. Please share. AbstractCurves.com - you have an interesting product - don't be shy! Thanks.

disenchanted Vendor website seems a bit light on content, especially for a website.
Seems like more of a "landing page" than an actual vendor website.

No "Privacy statement" page.
No "Terms and conditions page.

Louis H Last time this was offered, I decided to keep working with the giveaway version which is the same as the current one. I know the vendor exists - or at least did back in November of last year - because I trust Constantin to not lie to me about having been in touch with her/him. (It has also been available for $2 (USD) more - an ongoing 50% discount - here at BDJ since it was last offered at this type of discount.)

So my question is - has the vendor abandoned this program in terms of development?

It works, has never crashed on me, but it would be nice to know that someone is actively looking to improve and expand it's features.

It is currently pretty much a one-trick pony that I do not have an extensive need for. It does that one trick well, but at least one competitor that I use frequently, Amberlight 2, allows me far more control over creating the same type of effect. And Amber's sister product, Flame Painter 3, also provides assistance.

I would love to see the developer add a random button for each parameter if nothing else. Animation would be nice as well. These requests have been asked but the only response at the product's website is.....

"A: Not as of yet. We are considering it for future versions."

So it would be nice to hear from the vendor that this app remains in active development with an estimate of when they plan on releasing V2.0.

I have left a comment on their Facebook page, but received the message that they will review the comment. So if other folks out there are asking the same questions, which I tend to think they are, no such comments get through to their FB page for visitors to read. When, and if, I hear back from them on Facebook, I will update my comments here.

(The webpage is basically a landing page, as one BDJ member noted back in November. Nothing has changed. All links at the bottom of the page lead you back to the same landing page. The links at the top all bring you to a section of the landing page, except for Support and Gallery. Support brings you to a page of Q&A - where, as noted above, many answers are "considering it for a future version." Gallery brings you to a page of samples of what can be done with the program.)

AbstractCurves Hello Louis H,
thank you very much for your comment.
Yes, the application is in the development and we are planning to release V2.0 this year.

If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to contact us here or via the Contact Form at our website.

Louis H Thank you Constantin and AbstractCurves!

That makes it a no brainier for me to invest in this version, even though I know I will need to pay an upgrade fee of some sort for V2.

I am more than happy to financially support ongoing development!

Stephen Brown I was going to purchase this just as a mess around program and for my 15 year old daughter who is into art and loves these types of programs, but because money is tight at the moment and we in the UK are being charged more for the program than what is being advertised here on BDJ I won't buy it. Even if you don't take account of the extra we are having to pay in tax the price for UK citizens is still higher than what you are charging those who can pay in US dollars.

I've purchased quite a few programs since visiting BJH the first time a few years ago and have always felt we got a decent deal. I check almost daily, but this deal is unfair.

Louis H @ former User

The plugin is in the .8bf file format. It is known to be compatible with many older graphic programs programs both predating and coinciding with when CS5 was the standard, so why not try the demo to see?

(I use CC 2015, so I can't test it for you.)

There is also a section on their website that shows some of the other compatible graphic hosts.

If the installer hasn't found your graphic program automatically you can add it manually by clicking the "Add Host" button on the Components page.

Louis H @ AbstractCurves....

Back in June you posted the following.....

"Yes, the application is in the development and we are planning to release V2.0 this year."

Is this still the case? Will we be seeing a V2 before the end of the year? (Western or Chinese?) ;-)

Or will it be later in 2017?

Thanks.

Louis H I'm with you, Chuck.

Here is what the dev said back in June of last year.

"thank you very much for your comment.
Yes, the application is in the development and we are planning to release V2.0 this year. "

(See older comments for my posts last year)

I then asked again in Nov of last year and received no followup answer.

I still like the program, but I now consider it abandonware.

So buyer beware.

Odds are you will soon find this circulating through the giveaway sites and you can pick it up for free. That is the pattern I have seen with this program over the last three years.

To the Vendor - IF I am wrong, please explain why you do not respond to request for clarification as to when you will be releasing V2. And demonstrate "proof of life" by releasing a beta version for folks who purchased your program.

Thanks.
