Alcohol 120%

Store your favorite DVDs and CDs as Images

Ok, here's how it is. On one hand you have dozens if not hundreds of CD/DVD burning and backup titles. Carbon-copy, internet-cluttering clones that offer limited functionality and dubious support.

On the other? Alcohol 120%.

There are some very good reasons that institutions like Adobe, Samsung, Dell, Warner Brothers, an even NASA rely on Alcohol 120% for their DVD backup needs. It's stable, flexible, quick, and supports a large variety of CD/DVD image files.

Alcohol 120% makes it simple to store your favorite and most-used DVDs and CDs as images on your local hard disk. Making them available anytime, all the time, and allowing you to run them up to 200x faster than via the optical drive.

And all this at a click of a button!

There are a lot of options out there for CD/DVD backup solutions. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get the best: Alcohol 120%.

aladdin T Hi there,

1. Is this lifetime updates or one year updates?

2. How is the software activated?
Nov 28 2011 at 1:22am
Quinton This is for lifetime free updates and support, activation is done online, but you can move the license from one PC to another at any time from your control panel where your retail download and license is always stored for you.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 1:30am
Michael R. After having created an image-file, is it possible to delete single files/directories out of it to make it smaller?

E.g. if I have an installation-disk that need to be inserted inside the CD-Reader to run the program, because the program always looks for a certain file (or sector) to be there in order to run. So, it would be extremely space-consuming to have the entire disc inside the image-file. If I could remove the not needed files/directories or let Alcohol overwrite unnecessary sector-ranges with $00, it would be possible to have a 'image'-file, which would need only a fractal of the original.

Is this possible with the current version?
Nov 28 2011 at 1:31am
Albert C. What about reinstalling the same PC again and again? I reinstall my home PC quite often for testing purposes. Do activations run out after a number of times? Can then they be reset? Thanks! ^_^
Nov 28 2011 at 1:45am
Quinton Apologies for this, but there seems to be a problem with the affiliate link.
It was my fault not Bitsdujour.
A user needs to have an account at our web site first to enable them to receive their licenses.
Purchase needs to be made through the following link..
http://shop.alcohol-soft...._codes.php

And not the Cleverbridge link from Bitsdujour.
Anyone who has made a purchase so far, we apologise, and we will manually get your licenses out to you.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 1:56am
Quinton @Albert C
Activations are unlimited and you have full control over them from your control panel at our web site, without the need to contact us.

@Michael R
This is not possible, it will make a full image of a CD/DVD you are not able to extract certain parts of it.
You can of course add different files to a folder and make an image of that using Alcohol 120%
Please feel free to use our free trial before making a purchase.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 1:59am
Tomasz Lisowski Just a note for those of you, that already own the Alcohol 120% license, the BdJ price is roughly the same, as purchasing an additional activation to your license.

aladdin T Another question,

Is there any family pack for three computers. Most of us have at least a desktop and one or two laptops?

Individually, three separates licenses works out to be very expensive.
Nov 28 2011 at 5:06am
Quinton Once you have purchased a full license you do have the opportunity of purchasing additional hardware keys at any time.
The additional hardware keys, are about the same price as this very special offer, and let you run the license on more than 1 PC at the same time.
Please remember that this is a "lifetime free updates" license which we have given since 2002, that includes full free customer support.
Its a small price to pay really.
With the full license, you can always log into your account and change what computer you want the software to work on at any time.

Nov 28 2011 at 6:00am
Albert C. Sorry to ask this but I see that the latest build is from 2010. Is this product still under developement? Also, I see free lifetime UPDATES. Are we talking about minor updates or upgrades i.e. from 2.x to 3.x and 4.x and so on. Thanks! ^_^
Nov 28 2011 at 6:13am
Quinton Alcohol 120% supports many image formats, but we always suggest that you always make the image from our own native mds/mdf format, as it can handle much better with protection that may be on PC games.
Playstation backups would always require modification.
Again, please try our free trial before making a purchase, and you can check out our FAQ knowledgebase page at the following link..

Quinton @Albert C
It does show the last update as quite a while ago, but we have included a few minor changes since then to fix bugs, just we don't rename the version number to prevent everyone updating, as we have millions of happy users.
Alcohol 120% we believe is "extremely stable" and we are working on a few more changes that will be released in the near future.
Lifetime free updates means exactly that, you will be able to upgrade for the life of the software, minor or major updates, even when Windows 8 comes out.

Brad Perrault I have three lifetime licenses for Alcohol 120% going on 5 + years, excellant program very stable. Easy, easy, activation process. I have had multiple builds on multiple machines in those years and all you do is go on their web site and activate a new machine and name the machine your activating primarily for your own recordkeeping, to know what license is activated where. There are regular tweaks and feature adds. But the program is very mature and rocksolid my primary tool for backup of all forms of DVDs, CD's etc. Solid Virtual drives.

My two cents, Great Buy at this price.

VLM Hi Quinton,

My question is in response to this earlier response from you ...
______
@Michael R
This is not possible, it will make a full image of a CD/DVD you are not able to extract certain parts of it.
You can of course add different files to a folder and make an image of that using Alcohol 120%
______

Does this mean that one can preselect only certain files from a CD/DVD and back up only those? For example, if a CD has 10 songs on it, can I create a backup of only 3 of those songs?

Also, can I combine from multiple CDs? For example, if CD alpha has 3 songs I want and CD beta has 2 more, can I combine those to make 1 backup containing those 5 songs?
Nov 28 2011 at 9:35am
Quinton @VLM
If it is songs that you want to make a backup of, you can not take songs as they are on CD and make a direct backup of certain ones...however.
You can download a free plugin for Alcohol 120% which can extract whatever songs you wish to your hard drive, and converts them into MP3
Then you can put all the songs together and make an image of them as mp3 and burn them to a CD/DVD.
They will of course only play in a player that supports the playing of MP3.
You can download the free plugin by selecting the "audio converter" option inside Alcohol 120%. or get it from the following link..
http://www.free-downloads..._Converter

Brian F Just wanted to say great piece of software. I've owned this for 3 years now and it works just like the tin says.

License management is easy and versatile.

Agree 100% with Brad P.

At this price, it's a steal!

To be clear, I have no affiliation with Alcoholsoft.

Albert C. A last question: is SPTD mandatory or can it be optionally not installed? Thanks! ^_^
Nov 28 2011 at 12:32pm
malkhaz iosava THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! JUST BOUGHT YOUR EXCELLENT PRODUCT, AND I AM REALLY HAPPY!!!!
Nov 28 2011 at 12:47pm
Quinton @Albert C.

Sptd is mandatory, so a reboot will be required after install.
It is required for the latest copy protections.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 1:27pm
S B Alcohol 120% looks very interesting. I have some important questions, please.

1) Am I correct that the app can be used with existing .iso files?

2) People have reported that there are problems uninstalling the app. Can it be cleanly uninstalled--perhaps even for transfer to a newer computer--or perhaps to be able to restore the system without troublesome drivers?

3) When does Alcohol 120% need to check in (e.g., "phone home" to a license management server) to verify that the license is valid?

4) After the initial end-user installation, does Alcohol 120% ever need to "phone home" again?

5) Are there known problems or issues with the drivers that must be installed? (e.g., SPDT, etc.?)

Thanks!
Nov 28 2011 at 1:29pm
Quinton @ S B
Wow lots of questions..:)
Alcohol 120 supports lots of image files including ISO.
Competitors have always spread rumours about what is installed with Alcohol 120%, it is required to hide us being detected from copy protections, so you will not find us in Add//Remove programs, but you can easily remove everything from the unsintall button in program files.
Alcohol 120 does check every couple of weeks, if a license is legitimate, but if you do not have internet at that time it will continue to work.
We had o implement it, as we had 1000s of people sharing their licenses with their friends years ago.
We do not like doing it, but it has to be done for business reasons, this is the reason why we try and make activation as easy as possible.
Users of our software will tell you that it is the simplest online activation system they have ever used.
If anything did happen to us in the future we would ensure that there was a patch released, to bypass online activation, but we believe lifetime upgrades should mean just that, which we have offered for the past 10 years.
Hope this helps you make a purchasing decision, we do believe our support team are worth every penny spent, as we believe we offer some of the best support around from any company at this time.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 1:54pm

tip toe are you going to offer a lifetime for ALCOHOL 52% on here to?

i have payed for this program and love it thanks : )
Nov 28 2011 at 2:08pm
S B @Quinton

Yes, thank you for your quick and responsive answers. It certainly suggests that you are engaged with, believe in, and stand behind your product--and value your customers.

Perhaps you might answer one last question:
5) Are there known problems or issues with the drivers that must be installed? (e.g., SPDT, etc.?)

@Roger
I'm surprised at you! Yes, we apparently do have a good vendor in Quinton.

Let's not forget, however, that given the continuing work you, Nico, and team have done to build both quality and expectations for vendors, products, communication, and BDJ generally, this isn't "over-the-top"--it's more representative of the better class of BDJ's vendor/developers. And we do appreciate that!

Many thanks!

Nov 28 2011 at 2:17pm
SoftCollector I bought Alcohol in the beginning of 2009 when I paid 46 EUR for it - so this deal is a steal.

That said, in almost 3 years time only one major version has come out, but little else has happened and I have often wondered whether derdevelopment has been discontinued.

Back in the day Alcohol 120% used to be top dog, then Daemon Tools came along and Alcohol seemed to loose some of its steam.

That said, some of the old competitors - like SlySoft CloneCD - have all but left the scene. I had an argument with the guys in Antigua and Barbuda recently about selling it with the lifetime update and then not updating it at all. Got the same answer that I also saw on this page: "The software is stable, we see no need to change it."

CloneCD is generally more stable than Alcohol 120%, but neither will survive the pressure from Daemon Tools (although at the price of €119.88 that pressure may take some time to feel), unless they realize the need to evolve.

Daemon Tools makes mounting and dismounting a breeze, Alcohol is very good at copying protected CD's / DVD's if that is what you are looking for.
Nov 28 2011 at 2:19pm
Albert C. Got my copy! Thanks a lot Quinton for your patience! ^_^
Nov 28 2011 at 2:37pm
Quinton @ Soft Collector
We both use exactly the same VD, that is why you will see sptd being installed in both.
We are still here, we are currently working hard on a MAC version, I know that wont interest a lot of you here, but work is being done!
We do have 1000s of customers, and updating for the sake of updating, is not what we do.
I have seen in the past a lot of developers update once a week just to get new software out there to try and sell more.
We do not do that, updates to us is a big deal, as we supply software to a lot of the blue chip companies, that require solid stable software.
Don't take my word for it, just throw our support team an email you will receive great support within a few hours, and that is something that you wont receive from a lot of the bigger companies.
Good software is only part of it, good support is what people really pay for.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 2:53pm
Experience Customer support is brilliant, Quinton responded just minutes after purchase, secondarily I've applied for access to alcohol userforum.
A restricted area with manual processing which you must request access.
Within minutes alcohol support arranged this for me. (thank you Paul)
Considering workload managing todays deal, it was darn quick.

This deal doing great @ twitter/blogs/forums
You guys might wanna extend this for a day, just saying.
Nov 28 2011 at 3:48pm
VLM SoftCollector - I'm surprised to hear you say that SlySoft may have left the scene. Really? What about their Any... products (AnyDVD, AnyDVD HD, etc)? These are SlySoft's newer, most advanced products, are they not?

I realize that these are more expensive than what is offered here, but my understanding, from reading user forums (but not having the products) is that users receive updates WRT changing encryption fairly frequently. Perhaps another case where the product is stable?
Nov 28 2011 at 9:41pm
Michael R. May I ask, if a feature like 'removing files/directories from a ISO-file' is going to be implemented in a next version?

Or, if not, why not? Wouldn't something like that be useful?

And I don't think it would be to hard to implement, because probably the most complicated functions are already developed: 'Just' an overwrite of the current data with $00, removing the directory entry and recompressing it.

Any comment about an ISO-creating tool, which can do that would be appreciated too...
Nov 28 2011 at 9:41pm
Stefan Hauber I'm a little bit confused about the version-number (or the package itself). On the website referenced above (trial-download-webpage) the version is 2.0.1.2033. Going to Amazon they talk about Alcohol 120% 8 Platinum. There Alcohol 180%, your audio-tool is also included. Is this this 'Platinum'-extention?

So, what's the difference between these versions (2 or 8) and which one is offered here?
Nov 28 2011 at 9:59pm
Quinton @Michael R
I have passed your question onto our development team, and they will look into the possibility of adding such a feature.

@Stefan
On Amazon you will find a "crippled" German version, from one of our German resellers.
The version numbers for that version does go up to 8, but it is not as up to date as the version you are purchasing directly from ourselves.
They bundle it with another audio tool, please note that version is not able to bypass any copy protected media.
If you go to our web site and get to the upgrade German version link, you will see the same boxes as you see at Amazon, that page is where German users upgrade to our full version.
Alcohol Soft Vendor - Nov 28 2011 at 10:53pm
Yudha Yan Kusuma Please extend this deal. I need to test first if Alcohol is able to backup my Copy Controlled Audio CD, and remove the protection.
Nov 28 2011 at 11:27pm
SoftCollector @ VLM

SlySoft have not left the scene, AnyDVD gets a new update every month or so. CloneDVD gets a new update every year or so.

CloneCD on the other hand has not been updated since 2008 and although it was sold to me with the lifetime upgrade option almost 4 years ago, I have not seen a single updated version... because it is "stable". They do not seem to worry about the fact that their software may be stable, but it is no longer competitive. First Alcohol beat them, and now Daemon tools (since becoming commercial) has finished them off.

Alcohol is great at what it does, don't get me wrong, and I use it daily, but the mountin g and dismounting is not so easy as with Deamon tools (and how hard would it be to change the GUI a little bit?) and some of the features you, guys, are asking about now, have been requested years ago (like editing *.ISO files, etc.), but have never been implemented - and with this speed of implementation, they may as well never be.

I do not want to sound pessimistic, and the developer does not seem dead (they updated their site, made some changes for the new version of Alcohol, etc.), but I do not have the feeling they are paying close enough attention to what customers say, request, etc.

Maybe I am wrong, but as I said, I have been a customer since 2009 and this is my impression.

Kind Regards,
SC
Nov 29 2011 at 2:34am
VLM SoftCollector: Thank you SO much for sharing your kind and in-depth reply to my questions! I so deeply appreciate your making time to do so!

I guess I don't know the Any... product line as well as I thought I did. Does not the CloneDVD product also mount CDs?

Perhaps the answer is simple and straightforward: Good products cost money to develop, document, maintain, and support. Perhaps DaemonTools has the right idea ... charging customers in line with the real costs of running their business. ??

I must confess, I feel confused about what to do here. I appreciate and seek good products, with good support, and including reasonable updates from time to time. I value a company whose people listen to customer input ... and I have the same impression you expressed here. If I were a bezillionaire, this would all be no problem. :):) But alas, I am a far-lesser-aire. :)
