What are people saying about Aurora Blu-ray Media Player

Charles Mitchell Good thing that this is free since this is the same application as Macgo Blu-Ray Player, Ideer Blu-Ray Player and many others.....If you download this take a look at the about box and then grab a download of Ideer or Macgos version then compare.....This Aurora Blu-ray player is just VLC MEDIA PLAYER which you can get for free anyway.....Will this company who makes this player give the source code with this app who knows....

Raimondas Antanavicius With deinterlace disabled - very bad video rendering quality.
With deinterlace enabled - slightly better better video quality but still get blury video. Contours are not clear, I get many copies of the same object.
It is pretty lame video player.
Registration: you can register this software with serial number you got from bitsdujour only while this promotion is active.
Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre 6, PowerDVD 13 ultra and even Media player classic does better job xD
(Don't use VLC media player here).

Chris If we can only install & register this program while the promotion is active, then why does the fineprint say: "License activation isn't required."

The only way I can see only being able to register it is if it required some kind of online contact with the DEV's site.

Also, does this mean that the serial key we all get (most likely we all get the same one) will be blacklisted after the promotion ends?

Constantin Florea @Chris - 'License activation isn't required' means that your computer won't have to communicate with the developer's server to activate your installation. Please read more about this by clicking on the "what's this?" blue link in "The Fine Print" tab near the "License activation isn't required." phrase. Even if "License activation isn't required" you would still have to use the registration code you received in the receipt email to enter it in the registration window inside the application to unlock it.

Jason King @Raimondas If you use deinterlace, it will occupy much of your RAM. If your RAM space is not enough for deinterlace, the effect isn't good. You can refer to the recommended configuration on this page: http://www.bluray-player-...player.htm

JamesC Installed this more than once, much more than once. Fails to launch each time. Yes uninstalled, then installed again with new download. Tosh L875D laptop with 8GB RAM, all drivers updated, wish I could try it out... will try another dwld and install again.

Any ideas?? Thanks!

Michael Paul @ James C: Perhaps you can try right clicking on the installer file and clicking on Properties on the drop down menu. When the dialog box pops up look at the area at the bottom. You may see a box checked that says "This file is blocked because it comes from another computer." Uncheck the box, click OK and then close the dialog box. Then proceed to click on the installer file. I hope this is the solution.

Mark Chiang Interesting comment #1 by Charles, will see how it works.. I never did get Macgo to work when I came across it, the only thing I've found to work is Aisee softs player. The question in my mind is whether it handles those discs that Macgo would not play.

Charles Mitchell Well according to the GPL LICENSE that VLC PLAYER is under you as the customer should also receive or at least have access to the source code that Aurora used and the changes made by Aurora........
Aurora should make available said code according to the GPL License...

Mark Chiang Thanks again Charles.. I don't care to support this kind of practice, free is one thing but I wouldn't want to pay for software like this. Besides this may not even work for the discs I want to play if past experience with Macgo is any indication!

JamesC @Michael Paul: Thank you for the suggestion. I tried doing as you mentioned, however, did not have the checked box as mentioned so I did set it to run as Administrator hoping that might make a difference (even though I already was using a username with admin permission). That did not help.

Once installed again and within a minute or two it froze my laptop as it had previously, had to do a hard shutdown then an uninstall (again) as soon as it rebooted and I logged into it.

Am done trying and will stick with VLC as my main player and I have Cyberlink's PowerDVD 10 (2 versions behind right now) to play my BD's. Thank you again for the help, it is appreciated.

Charles Mitchell @ James C: You might as well stick with VLC since thats what this application is anyway..;)

@ Mark Chiang: You are welcome and btw that Aiseesoft player that you mentioned is the same application as AnyMp4 blu-ray player....Same opening, registering graphics and everything including using VLC without giving credit where credit is due....

Charles Mitchell @Jason King......Are you including the source code for this product as well according to the GPL license?......Since your product is just VLC which is under that type of License...

Mark Chiang Well I tried to update (minor, 2.12.8.1246 to 2.12.7.1277) and it took out my registration, now it's no longer active even if I try to reinstall the originally downloaded file with the serial from BDJ.

Jason King @ Mark Chiang & all giveaway users. The giveaway version of Aurora Blu-ray Media Player on Bitsdujour is not available for update after registration. If you have it update, the registration will be invalid and will not be retrieved.

As declared in the "THE FINE PRINT" area of http://www.bitsdujour.com...dia-player

Mark Chiang I have a feeling other options are more reliable, fact is when it did work it kept locking up. Why should I buy anything, let alone pay $40 when you cannot show me a smoothly working product? I didn't know I was beta testing, and I'm certainly not going to spend money testing for someone.

Jason King @Mark Chiang The free giveaway version is a full function one, but without the future upgrade.

Mark Chiang As I said it did work, but it would lock up simply when I tried to change title. It is buggy and not a smoothly working player, I did not have this kind of hanging issue with other players I've tried.

Dooshe Nozzle "Jason King @Mark Chiang The free giveaway version is a full function one, but without the future upgrade."

So how do we downgrade back to our Registered, 'giveaway' version, particularly if our registration code was only for a specific timeframe?

Companies with practices like this make me really wary of ever doing business with them.
Jul 3 2013 at 12:44pm Copy Link

Michael Paul @Dooshe Nozzle. What you are saying doesn't make any sense. This promotion was a giveaway and as such the giver has the right to apply conditions to the gift. Receiving the gift doesn't entitle the recipient to any upgrades. Even if you pay for software conditions and restrictions will still apply as these things are intellectual property. So, get over it.

r b Likewise.......I've been deregistered too :-(

I clicked on the upgrade button as most people would do (thinking it was bug fixes not a new version) and it deregistered me. Now I can't reregister it as the free version (despite reinstalling it) as the original registration was time limited, which I made sure to comply with.

I have no problems with the conditions attached but please can you fix this so it's usable as I'm wasting time otherwise.......including registering to post this.

A pop up statement would have been enough to stop this surely.............. Jason - can we reregister this software somehow please?

thanks
