You've got auto insurance, right? Well, why wait for a catastrophe to pick up some data insurance?
This has to be the cutest looking backup software I've seen. Nice user interface.
I've been using this for about 6 months,. after trying many other products. Its the cleanest, safest solution I've found to back up regularly. It stores the backup files in a standard zip file format, so you don't need to reinstall software to recover in the event of a disaster. Highly Recommended!! Don
Hi Folks, This is definitely one of the leaders of the genrè, based on comments at places like Snapfiles, DonationCoder, Lockergnome, Fileforum. Lots of nice aspects .. the plugins sound good, they put many reviews or urls on their site, would be nice to see a discussion/support forum. Any plans ? Could users give some of their views ? (Perhaps comparing to other good backups like Syncback or Genie-soft.) Generally web-buzz is quite favorable towards Backup4All. The standard package actually sounds pretty hefty. However this professional at less than standard pricing would be a good deal, even if you use one or two professional features, all would be fine. Also, do any good packages combine both regular backup and solid image backup in one .. or are those two different universes ? Backup4all mentions "mirror" .. although you can see an image in a mirror, it still sounds a bit different. I'll probably plunge later today, looking forward to some comments from the BDJ experts. Shalom, Steven
I've been using BackUp4All Pro for 8 months and I give it an "OK" rating, nothing more. First, even though they call this a "Pro" version there are no features you would normally associate with a Professional application. Most "Pro" backup programs allow installation on at least a desktop and a notebook computer, but this one doesn't allow that: One license per computer, period. Also, most Pro versions allow backups over your network. Not this one. You can only backup files on the computer it is installed on. No update checking of any kind. You must visit the web site and look to see if a new version or build has been released. And IF a new build is there, good luck finding out all that has changed, because they don't really list much at all about minor updates. I find these things to be shabby for a program that claims to be a "Pro" version. Also, after reinstalling BackUp4All Pro after reinstalling Windows XP Pro, I imported the old .ini files as directed by their support person. However it apparently mixed things up a bit and I found some backup jobs putting the files into another backup job's folder. No answer for this - guess they are working on it. J-Mac
My wife's laptop backs up to my desktop PC every single night using Backup4All Pro. My desktop PC backs up every single night to a SMB share on a Ubuntu server in the other room. Seems like J-Mac just doesn't know how to set up the program correctly. That would be understandable except for the fact that the Wizard you can use to set up backups clearly has a place for setting up remote logins and other things necessary for a remote backup. I have been using Backup 4 All for 17 months and I have never had a single problem with it. I have never had a scheduled backup fail, and the few times I have tried to recover from a B4A backup, it has been smooth sailing. One of the best parts of B4A, is the company provides mutliple "plugins" on their site. These plugins can be thought of as predefined backups that get all files associated with specific programs. This makes it fool-proof to set up a backup scheme for settings and other data related to the programs you use. Finally, the ease of setup with the wizard is great. I had all the backups I needed set up and scheduled within an hour of installing the program (and yes, that included backups to network locations). It's a great program, and I highly recommend it at full price. With the discount, it's a no brainer.
@ J-Mac Backup4all Professional allows backups over your network, an overview of that is presented here - http://www.backup4all.com/network-backup.php As for the .ini import, the backup destination remains the same when importing so the situation you described shouldn't happen - I tried finding your email with the problem reported but had no luck (searched last 30 days emails), and usually each email is replied in at most 24 hours, you should try forwarding it again maybe it got trapped in spam filters. We call the edition Professional because of its features, not because of the licensing method, which is a common thing among developers - Windows XP Professional allows installing it only on one computer even if it's called Professional, and there are many other examples. Automatic updates will be included in the next version. We do not put a changelog for each created build because we do not add new features in new builds but only correct bugs or modify functionality where it's the case - when a new feature is added (or if there's a major bug corrected) we release a new version so installing new builds is recommended only in case you encounter a problem with it.
