Increase Your Capacity to Remember

Do you find yourself forgetting important things? In a classroom setting, forgetting facts and other principles can lead to failing an exam. Out in the work world, the consequences could be even worse! It's not enough to cram data into your head and hope that it sticks. In fact, one of the best ways to increase your memory is through spaced repetition learning - and that's exactly what you'll get with today's discount software promotion, BetterMemo!

BetterMemo makes it easy to remember facts, names, numbers, and other information, through spaced repetition learning. This theory has shown that you forget things exponentially, and if you review something at the moment that you are about to forget it, you'll retain that information in your head just a little longer. As time goes on, these repeitions occur with less frequency, but their impact on your ability to remember remains!

Getting started with BetterMemo is easy - just enter your notes and the software will know exactly the right time to prompt you for a review. The information that you want to learn can be anything - questions, facts, photos, articles, what have you. Each time BetterMemo reminds you, you'll remember that item just a little better. In time, your knowledge of that information will be permanently written to your brain! It's that easy!

Robert Skinner A few questions:

1) Will this software run from my home machine and work machine from a USB stick? If so, would it have to register on both machines in order for it to work?

2) Can the software add bullets and number lists to the notes? I didn't see the option when quickly glancing at your application.

3) Do you plan to launch an android version of the software so the information can be used on mobile android devices as well as the PC?

Mary Wilson Unable to run program as Norton Utilities deems it not to be safe. Please fix this problem.
Nov 16 2012 at 1:56am
Velislav Vodov @Robert,
1) Yes, you can install it on a USB stick and you can use it on both computers with a single license (there are desktop and portable versions available after purchase).
2) This is not possible currently, but it is planned for the next versions.
3) Currently there are no plans for mobile devices, but it depends on the demand from our customers.

@Mary, we have contacted Symantec/Norton to whitelist our application, so you no longer get this problem. BetterMemo is completely safe and virus-free, but Norton prevents you from using it, because it lacks information about it. Once whitelisted, this problem will be resolved.

Zee Uptwist Hi Velislav.

1) Can BetterMemo be easily synced between a PC and a laptop?

2) How does BetterMemo compare to Mnemosyne or SuperMemo?

Thank you.
Nov 16 2012 at 4:27am
Velislav Vodov @zee,

1) It can be synched with application like Dropbox or other backup/sync application. Depending on the software, it may need additional setup (for example for Dropbox you need to link BetterMemo storage folder: http://lifehacker.com/515...box-folder).

2) BetterMemo's main strength is its simplicity, without ignoring any of the core spaced-repetition features.

SuperMemo is very advanced software and it has much more features than BetterMemo or Mnemosyne. The downside is the dated and often confusing user interface. It is really a matter of personal preference what is more important for you.

BetterMemo is very similar to Mnemosyne, but offers better text formatting (WYSIWYG) of the notes and easier (IMO) navigation between notes and note categories. Mnemosyne, on the other hand has plugin support and (currently unsecured) server synchronization. Again, a matter of personal preference.

Mary Wilson Norton Utilities is still not letting me load the program so I am unable to try it. Hope you are able to get it whitelisted with Norton soon.

Zee Uptwist Hi Velislav. Thank you for your fast and detailed answer.

BetterMemo seems to be a very nice and simple program!

1) Can you tell us when version 1 was released?

2) Do you have plans for a version 2? If so, when might that be released?

Thank you.

Daly de Gagne I want to purchase BetterMemo now - but your FastSpring purchase page is not showing the discount. It is showing $29. I am not going to go ahead with the purchase until I am sure I will not be charged full price.

Thanks for your help on this.

Velislav Vodov @Mary, unfortunately Symantec/Norton whitelisting process takes around 3 weeks, so it will not be ready today. You can temporary disable Norton Security to install BetterMemo, I can guarantee you that it is completely safe to do so.

@zee, the original 1.0 version was released 2009. The current 1.1 version, which makes everything Unicode was released around a month ago. Currently, I prefer making incremental improvements, instead of major releases like 2.0 or 3.0, so 2.0 is not planned soon.

@Daly, I will contact FastSpring about this problem. Meanwhile, you can try to open the link with another web browser. This usually resolves this problem.

Amit Is transfer to other computer allowed ?

And is this going to be actively under development - as I think its not being updated much ?
Nov 18 2012 at 7:20am
Velislav Vodov @Amit, you can transfer it to other computer, if you no longer use it on the first one.

As for the development, the main goal is to keep the program simple and easy to use. If there is a bug reported, it is usually fixed right away. New features are added slowly, only when I am sure that it is not conflicting with the above goal.

Jesus InsideMe Hi, I'm confused, BetterMemo is showing the due time properly, but it never shows me the window to review on that time, what is wrong?... no popup window will startup?, God bless you, bye
Nov 18 2012 at 2:17pm
Velislav Vodov @Jesus InsideMe, you should review your notes once a day generally. When you click the button Learn it will show you all due notes for the day. They are not intended to be reviewed at a specified time, but on a specified day.

Nov 18 2012 at 9:09pm
Velislav Vodov @Mary, just to let you know that Symantec informed us that BetterMemo is white-listed. I don't know when they will update their software with this update, but when they do and you are able to test BetterMemo, please contact me and I will give you the BitsDuJour discount.
