Have you heard that story about the guy who calls customer service and says that the cup holder on his PC is broken?

The punchline was that he was using his CD tray to hold his coffee mug, and it snapped off. We laughed and laughed, but in the back of everyone's mind, we're all thinking that while we wouldn't use it as a cup holder, those CD trays are really pretty flimsy and can't take so much as a dirty look without breaking. Who among us hasn't ejected the tray and then forgotten to push it back in? It's an open invitation for destruction by cat, dog, kid, or your own knee.

Thank goodness there's CD-Door Guard!

CD-Door Guard does what it says it does. CD-Door Guard closes the CD/DVD drive's door when you forget to do it, helps you to lock the drive to prevent little humans from playing with it, and locks access to the CD/DVD drive when the computer goes into sleep mode.

CD-Door Guard works with any tray-based media system - CD, DVD, Blu Ray, HD-DVD, everything is protected by CD-Door Guard. If you're one of the growing number of users with more than one media drive, you can even configure CD-Door Guard to protect each drive individually. Once this nifty application is installed, all control over your media drive tray is governed by CD-Door Guard. This means that, from the moment you turn on your computer, your CD/DVD drive door is locked by CD-Door Guard, and can only be opened by CD-Door Guard. You can even configure the software to emit an audible beep to remind you when the drive door is locked, unlocked, or if you forget to take a disk out of the tray!

Frank Stephens This is handy. I've had situations where issues with my Media Center remote opened the drive at night when it was too dark to notice. Despite what Mental Works says, it will close an empty drive on my Vista PC. As they state, Windows doesn't notify it of usage of the physical drive open button, so use the lock feature, which works great and prevents accidental presses from opening the drive, and open via CD-Door Guard. You can close it with the tray or physical drive button if you want.
