CloudZap

Print, Scan, and Publish Your Files to The Cloud

"Installs easily, I was zapping files in no time." -- PC World Magazine

By now, you've probably heard that the safest way to store and guarantee access to your most important documents is to save them to The Cloud - an online storage network that can take the form of Google docs, Microsoft SharePoint, Dropbox, Twitter, Box.net, AmazonS3, Microsoft SkyDrive, Evernote, Ftp, Egnyte, SalesForce.com, Microsoft Online (BPOS), and many others.

But, short of sitting at your computer and uploading files one at a time, is there any easier way to get started with a Cloud-based workflow quickly? Sure there is -- it's called CloudZap!

With CloudZap, you'll have access to three great utilities that let you print, scan, publish, and copy documents and files straight to the cloud-based service of your choice!

CloudZap Printer does what it says it does. It prints anything from any application, directly to your cloud service, as a TIFF or PDF file -- with or without security authentication. You can even use CloudZap Printer to print a single job to multiple locations on different services! It's so easy, you don't even need to configure your server to work with CloudZap Printer. With CloudZap, you can view your printed content on your iPad, iPhone, Android device, or tablet PC. Save ink, paper, and benefit the environment!

If you've already got hardcopy documents that you need to store in the cloud, CloudZap Scanner fits your needs perfectly. With CloudZap Scanner, you can scan and use OCR to upload your documents directly to your cloud service -- no retyping necessary! You can turn any ordinary flatbed scanner into a multi-page document scanner by just pressing the "scan button" for each page. When you are done, you have a multi-page document to send to your favorite Cloud Service!

CloudZap includes integration with the award winning Snagit screen capture software by TechSmith. You can capture screen content, edit it, mark it up, and publish it to any of the supported services.

Lastly, CloudZap Publisher is your catch-all utility for moving data to your online portals! Featuring tight integration with Windows Explorer, you'll be able to use CloudZap Publisher to copy files to your cloud-based service with a simple right-click!

CloudZap now includes an optional Office Pack (for Microsoft Office 2003-2010) that integrates your office documents -- including Outlook -- with all supported services.

Dan Panke What a bizarre video. I had no idea what was going on.
Sep 7 2011 at 3:19am
Tazzie I agree ... it is supposed to show something uploaded from Snagit to Dropbox via CloudZap, but it was most definitely not obvious in the video.
Sep 7 2011 at 2:17pm
john b Dan, you are correct. The video is "bizarre". I should spend more time improving the video to demonstrate the stated functionality. I appreciate your input. Kind Regards.
cloudzap Vendor - Sep 7 2011 at 6:35pm
SoftCollector Well, it may be true that the video could use some audio and/or written cues, but apart from that it is pretty straight forward:

1. A screen capture is taken with SnagIt
2. The screen capture is edited in SnaIt Editor and saved
3. The resulting file is uploaded using CloudZap

john b. could you supply more information on CloudZap's functionality and buying it could save one time and automate functionality? I believe that would boost sales here.

Kind regards,
SC

Preston Mitchell Interesting Software Prospect but Lame Marketing Video

It seems the video's main point was to show how well CloudZap integrates with SnagIt and MSFT Office...which is a very appealing feature...but more info on CloudZap in standalone mode would be nice.

Mary Wilson Went to download and try as it sounds interesting, but my Norton antivirus hit on he saying "The publisher has not been verified".

john b Someone reported an issue in the scan module a few minutes ago. It has been verified and a fix should be out in the next few minutes. Thanks.
cloudzap Vendor - Sep 10 2011 at 6:09am
john b As of this post, the scan module issue is fixed and a new build is on cloudzap.net. If you get the new version, please uninstall the older build first through "add remove programs".

Steven Avery Hi,

If anyone can compare functionality with programs like zScreen and also Screenshot Captor (which added integration with zUploader) it would be appreciated.

I see that there is an annotation, indexing, reference feature that might come in handy in holding and finding. Perhaps the resulting url is automatically saved ? Stuff like that.

And I would be the first to acknowledge that a few nice features for this purpose are worth the small cost. However just testing and comparing will take a spot of time :) so maybe some others want to share away.

And I see the architecture is different ... working through the print queue (which is interesting). So this may actually be complimentary to the other programs, having a bit more versatility.

Right now I save PDFs coming through "pdfFactory" on my disk as my permanent placement for some transactions, but I have to work with the concept of folder names and file names and don't have an easy index.

Anyway, conceptually this sounds interesting.

Rick F Will the software run under Win7/64? How many computers does a license apply to?
Sep 10 2011 at 9:16am
Eddie Tex @ Mary Wilson

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but this is probably the 3rd or 4th time (just in the last few months) I've seen you unable to download something because of Norton and in that time span, I've seen no one else report a similar issue.

If possibly, you may want to consider another AV program that doesn't issue as many "false positives" or adjust your Norton settings to not flag you every time it sees something it doesn't recognize.

In my opinion, your AV program should stop you when it detects a virus. That's it. In this case, it's holding you hostage to only the companies and programs it recognizes.
Sep 10 2011 at 10:12am
SoftCollector @ Mary Wilson

I have to agree with Eddie Tex. I do not advise using Norton IS. The firewall part is very weak and does not provide any protection whatsoever.

You can do better with almost any other title, but Outpost and Kaspersky are among the best.

Kind regards,
SC

Bill Smith "The publisher has not been verified".

That's not a Norton message. It's a Windows message when an exe file has not been code signed. It's pretty much meaningless.
Sep 10 2011 at 10:37am
Eddie Tex Bill, that's a good catch. That means you just click "OK" or "Yes" or whatever button option Windows provides to proceed forward.
Sep 10 2011 at 11:35am
john b " Will the software run under Win7/64? How many computers does a license apply to?"

The software and the office pack will run under xp, vista, and windows 7 both 32 and 64 bit.

Regarding licensing: For 9.95 USD, licensing is per machine.

Thanks.

Steven Avery Hi,

My possible uses are from a printer or from a screen capture. Presumably a printer is transparent with your software, where you are setting up the printer driver (similar to Fineprint, Priprint, PdfFactory, etc).

Please clarify whether SnagIt is the proper screen capture and our responsibilities for the SnagIt license. It is a fine program, and they have often allowed earlier versions to be free. And what if we use another screen capture, do we check with you about integration ?

I guess with another screen capture we could "Print" the capture, and then pick up CloudZap at that point. However that is one extra step than direct SnagIt ?

Thanks.

SoftCollector As it is often the case with US-made software, it was impossible to use my VAT number to deduct VAT charges during the placing of the order and you overcharged me $1.99

Of course $1.99 is not a lot of money, but why pay it when I do not owe it?

I simply do not understand: what does the message "Could not verify VAT number" mean?

I am copying and pasting my VAT number from a file, so whatever the reason, it must be your order placement form or the way you are using the VAT number supplied.

Warren Russell This looks like a nice product. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to test it, but I noticed two things right away:

1. I'm actually using three storage solutions: SugarSync, Mozy, and Dropbox. My preferences are in that order, and SugarSync is the one I have paid for and which allows me the most storage. John, what are the chances that SugarSync and Mozy will be added?

2. Even when using Dropbox, I had problems. When I tried to add a new Dropbox folder within CloudZap, it acted like one had been created, but no new folder was displayed. I tried this a couple of times. Solutions?

Thanks!

Steven Avery Hi,

Similar question about DriveHQ, the only storage site I know that has a really fine Total Commander style file manager. ImageShack is another one worth considering, that is one of the ones with zScreen integration. We realize there are dozens of these storage vendors and you only can work with a few friendly ones.

I got my Box.net account working ok, after a try or two, I'm gonna try some more as there was a question or two. (Also will try Dropbox). One thing was that you did not seem to have an option to create the new folder at the time.

The following two features would be most helpful.

1) a log of what was sent up that can be reviewed, scanned, deleted.
2) the direct url created by box.net for sharing. This is an important feature on any upload. You do not want to have to signin to get the direct url.

on (1) Ok, you do have a "History". It allows me to change the name of the file, it does not say seem to say where it was published to or where it came from, although it has "Type". This could be beefed up some more. (A real fancy idea would be to optionally have the file or pic remain available from "History".)

I wasn't sure what it did with Google.Docs. said something about printing. However, I am not a google docs expert. More later.

Please try to work with my screenshot question above. Do you recommend SnagIt for direct integration ? Can we still snag a snagit earlier release for free that will work with CloudZap ? If we use another screen pic, does that mean we work through the printer, but with SnagIt we can bypass that step and work with a direct .png file ? And is it SnagIt the way that allows us to add annotation at the front-end. (Note: SnagIt is a fine program, I may have to check myself about whether earlier versions are free anywhere. Hmmm that was 7.2.5 back in 2007, so even if available, not likely to integrate with CloudZap. 10.0 is a $50 program, losing some of the cachet of the integration.)

Evernote worked smooth. Picture quality was lost, I think, which could be an Evernote thing.

A feature that would be nice, but does not seem to be common in PC land, is "view spool". I see you do allow viewing files queued for publishing.

Jerry S Hi, John.

I purchased two licenses in July, 2010 and unfortunately never found time to install and use them. (I had the question about EverNote and Livedrive, as you may recall.)

Is this a new version? Or are my licenses from July, 2010 still valid?

Steven Avery Hi,

All in all, I am impressed enough. I probably will not use the screen picture stuff until you get integration with a freeware or very inexpensive pic program.

(Alternatives I will use are Screenshot Captor and zUploader .. or zScreen and zUploader .. the comparison of CloudZap and zUploader is quite interesting, both have strengths).

Your built-in support for some good cloud spots, the Evernote support, the well-designed simultaneous upload, the cluttered but nice web site, the software designed on Tex-Mex food, and most of all the printer driver built in .. is sufficient even without the screen pic at this time.

So I will go for it, and wish you very well. I hope you set up a little forum, even on Yahoogroups or GoogleGroups. It looks like a nice software overall so for $9.95 its a go.

================

ok, done, and I saved my PDF with CloudZap and then saw it in Evernote. Nice. As well as saving in its normal home spot on my puter.

2 suggestions.

A bit more information about the success of the upload .. e.g. "all uploads successfully completed". (And similar good info if one fails.) There is a message but it could be clearer in wording. You could also have "uploading" blinking during the process.

Also a "print to printer" option at the same time as all the uploads and sideloads.

Again, well done. I wrote about you on Donationcoder. I would say with the printer driver and the uploads combined, and some snazzy thinking in simultaneous uploads ... and choosing uploads at run-time .. you have a very nice niche.

e.g. I can see a special folder set up in the cloud and also on disk for some research stuff. A different folder for invoices. A third for this and that. Looks like with your software the navigation and run-time placement will be nifty, not a problem.

DroidLuvr I am curious about this product. I have looked at the website after seeing the product here and reading these comments. It seems the software is now $49.95...

However, I downloaded a free trial and with a few exceptions, it worked pretty well to upload to box and evernote; I hadn't tried very many options by the time the 2 week trial expired, but I'm curious why this thread died back in September and why the software has gone from the $9.95/19.95 to $49.95??

Anyone out there still using this -- any more recent feedback?
