b g 2 questions, please:

1. I attach business brochures to most e-mail so there are likely to be HUNDREDS (or more) of emails with the same attachment, usually a word file. Will this be a problem? Will the accum directory keep just one copy and each of hundreds of emails will link to this one file in the accum directory? There may be several versions of this brochure, same file name, distinguished by date. Will one of each be stored in the accum directory?
2. I use a desktop search program that also scans the attachments and lists all the emails with an attachment containing the word or phrase searched. Will this search program work the same way, listing all emails with attachments containing a searched phrase

Simon Carter @Gail: Hi Gail - yes and yes! We've had users with 10 years of emails handled quite easily by DetachPipe. You can process the current email, a selected group of emails, or entire folders of emails with subfolders (see DetachPipe\Process a Set of Folders)

Simon Carter @B G: Yes - all files will be linked to a common copy provided their folder name and filename is the same. Ensure that compression is off, and change the Mask field of the Outgoing settings to:

[MyDocuments]\DetachPipe\[FolderStructure]\[filename].[extension]
or similar (ie ensure that subject and date are not part of the generated filename)

and DetachPipe takes care of numbering and merging identical copies for you. It also takes care of reference counting, so as those emails get deleted, it will eventually remove the file on disk.

Simon Carter @B G: It unlikely your search program will follow the links to the detached files. DetachPipe by default leaves a tiny attachment on each email so it is still flagged with a paperclip icon, so searches based on 'emails with an attachment' still work as normal.

When DetachPipe detaches a file, the folder name, filename and date of the file can be used to track down the original email.
