Rick Edwards I don't immediately see what is offered beyond Audacity. Perhaps the spectral view & not sure Audacity burns CD's? Perhaps the user interface is better?

Also, in the spectral view, can you use a mouse to remove a section of the frequency/time plot (as in Adobe Audition to remove something like a cellphone or cough in a live recording?

Stephen Kreyling I already own a license, what are some of the planned updates for the year, as it would be cheaper to buy a second license than renew.

Randy Martin Please compare and contrast to Camtasia. I'm not sure if this would be better/easier/compatible, etc. This sounds great (where was it LAST YEAR?) but after investing in Camtasia I'm not sure I need it. I welcome input from other BDJ buyers. Thanks

Doug Atkinson A lot of what sets audio editors apart is simply how well the interface works for you. I've never liked the interface for Audacity, for example, but my son prefers it. From a quick glance, both Audacity and Dexter offer similar functions, but Dexter offers audio cleaning filters built in, while I think you'd have to search for some 3rd party plug ins for Audacity.

As for Camtasia, they are completely different products. Camtasia is a screen grabbing program for making videos of your desktop and is great for making software "how-to's", for example. Dexter, on the other hand, is dedicated toward audio editing. You can use it to take that ending off an MP3 that you've always hated, or you can copy your cassette tapes to digital format; stuff like that.

Rick Edwards Thank you, Doug. I had hoped that the vendor would have a list of reasons you'd want to pay for something that is otherwise free. I haven't used the Dexter UI but it seems to me that it would be pretty easy to improve on Audacity's. I have to use online help every time to find the unnatural (to me) keyboard shortcuts that aren't (and apparently can't be) buttons on the screen (such as 'zoom').

Arthur Balin Could someone help me. I have lectures on DVD that I need to listen to. I don't have time to sit and watch them and anyway they only show someone standing giving a talk. How do I rip the audio off the DVD's that I already own and put them on my ipod so I can listen to them while doing other activities. Will this program do that? Thanks for any help you can give.

Rick NG Hi Herman,

SmartSound plugin is part of Adobe Premiere and Adobe's Products. Most likely you have Adobe's software installed and the uninstallation was unclean.

Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.

Select SmartSound Quicktracks Plugin, and then click Uninstall.
