Portable Password Protection

eWallet

We used to have too many passwords to remember. But now, more and more sites are asking us "extra security questions". And if we don't answer using the exact phrases and spelling we did when we set them up, we can say goodbye to any hope of logging into the site.

But fortunately, we use eWallet. It manages our passwords, credit cards, and other important confidential information, and lets us include all the other info we seem to need these days. Like our favorite pet, our high school mascot (we had a mascot?), our 3 digit CVV numbers, and all the other info that we seem to need these days to prove who we are.

Written by Roger Thomasson

eWallet lets you:

  • Encrypt and protect all of your passwords, credit card and account numbers.
  • Enter any password, credit card number, or other information without keyboarding it and without having it saved by a browser or other program.
  • Store extra security information - like the extra questions more and more online banks and credit cards are asking - right with your passwords.
  • Generate extremely safe passwords with a single click.
  • Have the important related info for all your passwords, credit cards and account numbers in one place, easy to find and easy to use.
  • Sync your eWallet information to your iPhone, Windows Mobile, or Blackberry handheld, with the with the optional handheld add-on version.

Who Needs eWallet?
You do if you've ever:

  • Had to pick that "Forgot My Password" button, and then been unable to remember which email address you used.
  • Let a browser you didn't trust "remember" your passwords, just because anything else was too much trouble.
  • Hoped no one at work ever found out you were keeping your passwords in an Excel file.
  • Entered your credit card number wrong so many times that an online store kicked you out of its cart.
  • Started a new account with some website, just because you weren't able to log in to your old one.
  • Lost half an hour looking for the phone number for some account, or the secret word you entered when you set it up.

Real Users Say:

  • “I can't imagine running my business, keeping up with my software serial numbers, my essential personal information and the slew of online username/password combinations without this little gem.”- Angela P.
  • “I simply do not know how I got along without eWallet.”- Sam S.
  • “I have been using eWallet for almost a year now and it is one of my most indispensable applications. I'd be truly lost without this program!.”- Irene P.

    Greetings,
Will eWallet work with Windows7 -- both 32 and 64 bit versions?
    Thanks.

    Ellen Craw (Ilium Software Vendor)
Yes, Julie, it will work with both of those. Thanks for asking.

Since banks and other financial institutions have begun to require all manner of log-in Information, I've been looking for a replacement for my old tried and true password program that no longer meets my needs. I installed this yesterday. Very nice little application that I will probably purchase if I get back in time from the short trip I'll be leaving on in a few minutes.

I do have one question. I do my utmost to avoid using My Documents. The problem is that most software assumes it is the default folder for everything. Here is the question: Even though another folder is specified to store eWallet's files, I find a folder called eWallet in My Documents which contains another folder called Graphics and Sounds. Is there any chance I can move this, or, as I fear, would the program then be unable to find its graphics and sound files?

    Thanks.

K H, Thanks for asking. You can't delete or move the folder, but you can link to graphics and sounds anywhere on your PC. They don't have to be in that folder. So while that folder and its contents need to stay in My Documents, all the graphics, sounds and info you use can be wherever you want them.

I've used Roboform in the past - however, it seemed to work erratically w/ Firefox and when I upgraded to my new PC it didn't transfer. So I'm considering purchasing eWallet.

    Two questions:
    1. Can I import passwords and other info from Roboform?
    2. I've seen a few comparisons recently of various Password managers. How does eWallet compare to the other solutions? Can you highlight its advantages?

    Thank you.

    Continuing previous question:

Does eWallet automatically "fill in" the information requested by websites? Or is it just a secure database...

    Thank you.

I've used eWallet in various forms on my PC, Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Smartphone since 2001 or so. It's a great program, especially if you sync to a mobile device.

Bob - you can import info from some programs. Roboform isn't one of them we explicitly support, but depending on how you can export your Roboform info, you may be able to import it into eWallet.

eWallet can fill in a name and password on a website, but doesn't fill in any other fields. You can use its smart copy feature to easily copy the contents of other fields for pasting into online forms or anywhere else.

eWallet's advantages - it's very easy to use, completely secure, has special features like smart copy to make using it even easier and quicker. You can add and securely store any kinds of information - things like secret questions and answers, as well as more structured info. You can get a copy of eWallet (an additional purchase, but discounted) for any Windows Mobile, Blackberry, iPhone or iPod Touch and sync your info there and have it with you (safely) anywhere, personalize your cards with your own graphics or colors to make them easier to identify, and generate very secure passwords with one touch. In addition, we stand behind eWallet with inhouse phone support - tollfree in the U.S. - so that if you have a question, you can get accurate info easily and quickly.

Thanks for your questions. You're also welcome to call our support center directly if you'd like more details.

Is it portable--can it be installed to and run from a USB thumb drive without leaving any registry entries on the hst PC?
  • Sep 15 2009 9:20am
    Ellen Craw (Ilium Software Vendor)
Steve S - No, sorry. We had a version that did that, but haven't continued to support it.

Is there any discount on the iPhone app if we buy the Windows version through this deal?
  • Sep 15 2009 10:51am
    Ellen Craw (Ilium Software Vendor)
Sue, thanks for asking. I wish we could discount the iPhone version, but that's the one we can't, because of how Apple handles iTunes purchases. We just don't have a way to give any discounts.

    Hi Ellen,

Since there is no portable USB version, what is the EULA for a single user? Can it be installed on a few computers? If so, I imagine they are synced by copying the wallet file over?

    Thanks~
  • Sep 15 2009 1:14pm
    Julie (Ilium Software) (Visitor)
Hi Vanessa - You can install eWallet on multiple computers, as long as you are the primary user on each one (like your work and home computers, for example).

You can copy the wallet file over, like you said, or if you have your wallet file saved on a USB drive, you can use SyncPro in eWallet to sync between the USB and desktop and keep your info up-to-date that way.

The tour on your website indicates that the Auto Pass feature (which fills in name and password on a website) works on with Internet Explorer. Is that correct, or does it work w/ Firefox?

If not, too bad, as I suspect that most bits du jour users use an alternate browser.
  • Sep 16 2009 8:40am
    Ellen Craw (Ilium Software Vendor)
Bob, right this minute, AutoPass only works with IE. In the next version, that will be fixed.

It's funny - left to myself I'd only use Chrome and Opera, but there are so many sites, especially banks, that don't work right with anything but IE, I've found that eWallet's default use of IE ends up working better for me than if it used my default browser. I still think we should fix the feature, and we are, but I personally will miss the "bug".
