CJCotter Can this program be used to synchronize changes between a storage drive and it's backup drive?
Feb 18 at 4:09am
Retired Engineer You say, "Run specific processes for new and changed files and folders". What "specific processes" do you support (batch file, executable file, etc.)? Where can I find a non-trivial example of this?
Feb 18 at 5:52am
Simon Carter @Christopher - yes, you can setup a simple batch file to copy changed files to the backup drive. If you want to handle deletes as well, you'll need to setup a second watch to perform delete actions, or use a batch file that checks if the file exists on the storage drive and deletes it from the backup if it cannot be found.
DataMystic - Feb 18 at 11:41am
Simon Carter @Retired - yes, any process you specify, which is typically a batch file or executable or other script such as .js or .vbs. For samples please see the product help file, and http://www.datamystic.com...m.php?f=25

Feb 19 at 1:43am
Simon Carter @Thomas - sure, you can do custom actions. Sample vbscripts are included too.

DroidLuvr I've read all the discussion here, and have seen questions similar to mine, but not quite, so pardon me if you think you've answered this before... Re: licensing. It says 1 home computer and 1 laptop, but cannot be used at the same time.

I am a home user, and I am the only user "profile" that needs this software. I would want the program to monitor several folders on my laptop (Win7 Ultimate edition); when a new file is created in a monitored folder, the program would copy the file(s) to one of multiple mapped network drives. However, ALL of the mappings go to one desktop PC that I use as a "file and backup server." It is definitely NOT a true server, just a desktop computer that has multiple drives: specifically, it is a 7-year old Dell desktop, running WinXP Pro SP3, and it has 2 internal and 3 external (USB) drives attached to it, where I store files and backups to access from my laptop (or Android device, or media device, etc.)

Would I need more than one license for this scenario? Technically, it means that the program would be used on both at the same time by copying files from my laptop to my desktop at the same time...

Thanks in advance...

Simon Carter @DroirLuvr: I have no problem with that scenario :-)

Phred E Just so that we understand DroirLuvr's question - doesn't just the laptop need to run F&FW? The receiver 'server' just seems to receive; why would more than one licence be necessary? Puzzled.

2. Simon, if we change components on our machine, or if DataMystic goes out of business, what assurance can we expect that we would be able to re-install F&FW? Is the licence self-contained? Since it doesn't phone home (your reference to activation), does it link to a hardware signature before purchase? I understand commercial imperatives, but buying has been buying for centuries, even if it's just of a licence.

Simon Carter @Phred:

1. I thought I was missing something too. I thought DroidLuvr must have had two laptops feeding to the backup computer. This kind of personal use is fine.

2. If you have the installation file, and the license key, then you are good to go. We have a trading history of 13 years.

David Fullerton I like the idea and concept of this, because I need it to for everyday things. Yet, I was a little baffled by the screenshot. Do you have one screen with a selection of different watching rules then the shown screenshot is the actual analysis of one of those rules? Would be nice to see more screenshots that help sell the product better. You've got an awesome idea, and I want to buy but just know ahead of time if it is right for me. Because I also only see one screen there so I can't tell what the others do.

Thanks,
DBF

Simon Carter @David: Did you try the trial? The screen is the first tab where you describe which folders to watch.
