Odd Condition "Each license allows installation on 1 computer, but FileStream WinSettings may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them."

each of that 1 computer?
Feb 24 at 8:15am
Joe Miller Hi, Thank you for bringing it to our attention. It is one of the BDJ boxes we checked, not sure we checked the right one. It is one license for one computer, period. Please ignore the part after "but". We will have to look into it to have it corrected or clarified.

Tazzie Will upgrades be discounted?
Feb 25 at 12:06am
Joe Miller Hi Tazzie, At $4.99, it is cheaper than upgrade.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 25 at 1:55am
Peter E. @ Joe Miller,
Hi Joe, I tested the trial version and found it to be a very nifty program.
However ,I have 2 problems with it.
One is for the GUI. The Control Center panel/window is not resizable.(At least not on my system) .
This type of GUI ,unfortunately, is used by many GUI designers and frankly is a pain. The space for the displayed info is to small ,causing you to have to constantly scroll to see the full extent of the info.
Any plans to make the window resizable?
The 2nd concern is the licensing.Let's say the "per computer license" is ok ,but to disallow transfer of license to another owned computer ,is in my view overly restrictive.
I realize that at today's price you could buy several licenses quite reasonably ,but at the normal price I would not have expected such severe restriction.
If purchasing more than 1 license today ,will each license have it's own key and be independent of the person who purchased the license? I'm thinking of presents for family or friends.
Thanks.

J KAN can you explain about this have drm or activations? i plan to use this and want to buy 5 licenses, but i format that computers every 3 or 4 month (i teach kids and they make this full of crapware).
Feb 25 at 10:48am
Joe Miller Hi Peter E, WinSettings is designed as a tray icon program. Many of its popular functions can be accessed via its right click menu. That and its scheduling capability means you may never have to look at the interface again after the first time. That being said, we do have another program, WinSettings Pro, with resizable interface GUI.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 25 at 11:40am
Joe Miller Hi J. Kan, That is not a problem. As long as your license is in our database, you should be able to reinstall without any issue.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 25 at 11:45am
Silat Joe is the pro version on sale also?
Feb 25 at 12:58pm
Joe Miller Hi Silat, The Pro version is not included in this offer. Would you like to see the Pro version included in BDJ offer in the future?
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 25 at 2:01pm
Silat LOL Yes
Feb 25 at 2:09pm
Joe Miller Hi again Silat, We take our users feedback very seriously. We will talk to the good guys at BDJ to if we can run an offer for the Pro as well. Please stay tuned and keep an eye on coming offers. We are not able to promise anything at the moment because we have not had a chance to discuss it with BDJ yet but we surely will.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 25 at 2:25pm
Silat Thanks Joe. Appreciate the response.
Feb 25 at 3:51pm
Peter E. Hi Joe, Thanks for your answer to the GUI question. It's too bad that
the standard version doesn't have a resizable interface.
I would've expected it to be resizable in a normally $30 program.
Also ,could you please address the 2nd question and comment re license in my first post?
Thanks.

VLM Is there a feature comparison page for WinSettings vs. Pro?
Feb 25 at 4:19pm
Steven Avery Since you have a few nice utilities easy to get to, running it portable on a USB would be good. Do you have a discussion of the possibility ?

In general, you might use a dedicated program for task manager termination (btw ... your 'all" needs a confirmation) startup, etc . Your screen capture is pretty nicely implemented. Various tweaks are interesting.

However having it portable for work and library and foreign computers would be helpful ... Overall, it is a nice feature set.

Fresh UI, Systweak, Xsetup etc are some alternatives, some free, some $$ but I think with the Bits discount this is very good value. I'll buy one now anyway :). Especially since you have a Lawng Igland number

The GUI objection is real, yet not a deal-breaker. You should have expandable edges at least. I do not see that the Pro is that important in this case (looking at the blurb page).

Overall well designed. Not overly aggressive. The cleanup is a little mild (which browser ?) ... and CCleaner will not be shaken, but overall you have a nice mix. More than I expected. The quick file association utillity is nice.

====

Overall, I am a bit disappointed with my backup programs, so if Turbo Backup has a mode that does not force zip or proprietary then I will look forward to a trial when you have that Bits.

Joe Miller Hi again Peter E., The non transferrable term means not for resell. On the order form, it indicates it is OK to Purchase as Gift. Hope it answers your question.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 26 at 12:29am
Joe Miller Hi VLM, Thank you for your question. Aside from the resizable GUI and more tray icon options and Registry editing options, everything at the link below other than remove junk files is for the Pro version:

FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 26 at 12:44am
Joe Miller Hi Steven,

Thank you for your feedback and sorry about the belated reply.

One of our other programs and one of our two backup programs, Sync TOGO (backup and synchronization) is a portable program. It can be installed on USB and go anywhere with you. In addition, it does not require Administrator privilege to run. Some of the WinSettings and WinSettings Pro features, on the other hand, deal with system specific and security aspects of the system for this reason cannot be made portable. Now that you mentioned, we may look into just make those non system specific features portable.

TurboBackup offers three options, zip, proprietary compression, and no compression so you do have choices. Either TurboBackup or Sync TOGO may be exactly what you are looking for.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 26 at 1:09am
Joe Miller Hi again Peter E., Correction: on this particular promotion order form there is no Gift Purchase option but we do always allow it. This and future promotions are no exception. As long as it is not for resell, it stays within the license agreement. We have users purchased multiple licenses this time as well.

Caleb K Hey, I can't buy this product - it redirects me to a page where it says "Filestream is not available at this time?" Can someone pls help me?!

Or otherwise just give me the coupon code so I can buy it straight from your website?

Thanks!
Feb 26 at 8:58am
Joe Miller Hi Caleb, Thank you for your interests on WinSettings. The deal has expired - for now. We will contact Bits du Jour to see if they have opening to run this offer again sometime in the near future.

VLM In your BDJ write-up, you say, "you can see all of the unnecessary junk that loads on startup, and get rid of it!" Sounds great. And many programs make similar claims. But here is what would help me: a program that actually tells me which of these items (startup, services, etc.) I really don't need or at least am not using. My understanding is that all these things can be turned back on later. But honestly, I've never turned most of them off, because I have no idea what most of them are.

Does this make sense?
Feb 26 at 8:11pm
Joe Miller Hi VLM, Thank you again for your question. The write-up was from BDJ and we agree. To answer your question, I launched my WinSettjngs interface and went to Repair, Startup Programs and saw four Adobe startups there. Some I need and some I don't at this time. All legitimate programs list their company and program names. One of the Adobes is "Adobe ARM. I have no idea what it is so I Googled it and found: Adobe Forums: New startup item - Adobe ARM, dated April 2011. New items got themselves in all the time. Recently, I accidentally installed a toolbar. It took me a little effort to get rid of it but I did. What I did not realize is that it left behind some startup items and I just turned them off. So for the most part, I guess you are right. Most of them you probably won't turn them back on but some you may. Regardless, the options are there.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 26 at 9:43pm
VLM Joe Miller - thanks for the WinSettings Pro link. But this page does not provide a direct comparison between the 2 products. Do you have a page that does?

Regarding my other question, to which you kindly responded as well, I think when it comes to startup items, services, etc., I experience a sort of fear factor ... what if I turn off something I really need and then can't find my way back to health? You know? For example, if I were to search for Adobe ARM and discover that it is a new startup item, I still wouldn't have a clue whether it is desirable, okay, neutral, or harmful to shut it off. Perhaps no one can write software that offers that kind of advice. ??
Feb 27 at 4:24am
Joe Miller Hi again VLM, Sorry about the confusion. As previously replied, "Aside from the resizable GUI and more tray icon options and Registry editing options, everything at the link below other than remove junk files is for the Pro version **only**:"

http://www.filestream.com...tsnew.html

(Added the word **only** to avoid confusion.)

With regard to your other question, that is exactly the beauty of WinSettings. On the Remove Startup Programs page, you will see the list of programs and a check box in the front of each listing. Select the one you want to remove, click Disable, then click Do It, and the check box will appear unchecked and that program will no longer be included in Startup. Now say you changed your mind, select that item again (the listing itself will always be there), and click Enable. You will see the box in front of it is checked off. In this and many other features in WinSettings, your action can be reversed,
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 27 at 4:59am
VLM Joe Miller - Thank you!

"Only" definitely clears up my confusion and makes it clear, at least to me, that I'd feel grateful for an opportunity to acquire the Pro version, in particular, if that works out here. My sense is that BDJ is very enthusiastic/responsive about bringing back vendors. So I feel optimistic!

Regarding the check boxes, that's a great approach, increases my comfort level considerably. Does the product also have a screen that deals with Windows services, distinct from startup items? My understanding is that some of these things can really hog resources and that many really aren't necessary, at least not most of the time.
Feb 27 at 2:12pm
Joe Miller Hi again VLM, Glad to be of help. Services actually do not hog your resources. You can check it through the Task Manager.
FileStream, Inc. Vendor - Feb 27 at 2:23pm
