Ernest Kennedy I purchased the pro edition in mid 2012 and can honestly say it is one of my favourite apps, I would advise anyone to get this deal, you won't regret it.
I have 4 partitions in my notebook laptop and well over 3 million files acroos all partitions and this app can give me almost instant access to any file on any partition irrespective of how deep the folder/file structure goes, really speaking the only delay experienced is it takes me longer to type even just a part of a file/folder name to search for and for me the program search speed is awesomely fast. Once you give it a drive to catalogue keep the program running in the system tray for quick access to any file/folder on the catalogued drives.
Good luck everyone and enjoy this awesome app.

BTW, I'm a fellow BDJ user and am not affiliated to the vendor of this app, I'm just a very satisfied customer.

miscellaneous In case you miss out on this offer, I highly recommend you check out "Everything" at voidtools.com. Although the software if available for free, consider donating to the developer if you enjoy using the software. (No, I do not have any connections to the developer; I'm merely mentioning this in case you enjoy the software.)

Donald Baker Hi Paul is this compatible with Win 8 64bit.
Thanks

Phred E Voidtools is working from here..
Hi Paul, Perhaps you could contrast this with '(Search) Everything'.
Everything does need administrative rights to operate, and I suspect your program doesn't - so, safer.
But in what context does Folder Scout work? Is it just a version of Win Explorer, or does it act as a more versatile Open or Save dialogue box, or in some other way?
Using a mouse in a GUI is an 'analogue' kind of operation: think through your arm, and your mouse pointer moves on-screen. But in Windows 8 the 'type anywhere' meme is only valuable to touch typists: think out through your fingertips and the result comes up on the screen. Your program seems to act in the same way - conscious typing.
For people who look at the keyboard, typing is a distraction. Unless typing is subconscious, typing letters is more of a nuisance than using your arm and fingers to making things work analoguely(?) on-screen with a mouse.
Am I interpreting your software correctly? Thx.

Bob Hughes I "purchased" this and the product key does not work, and yes I copied and pasted the key exactly as instructed [your name]-[yourmail@mail.com]=your license identifier] . The OK button remaims greyed out/disabled.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Brian De Bragança 'The Fine Print' says to download the software immediately as it will "not be available after the promotion".

Does this mean it must also be installed and activated immediately (or at least before the end of the promotion)?

'The Fine Print' also says that only one installation per footprint (and, I presume, activation) is allowed. Does this mean that the software cannot be re-installed and/or re-activated after, say, a future OS crash or any time in the future?

Please clarify this.

Constantin Florea @Bob Hughes - I've just sent you an email.

Paul Scout @ Donald Baker,

Folder Scout has been fully tested under Windows 7 for 32 & 64 bits editions, but only partially tested under Windows 8, initially without problems.

Will be very pleased if you could share with us any experience under Windows 8 32 and/or 64 bits edition.

Paul Scout @Phred E,

Thanks for you detailed message. Yes, you are right: Folder Scout is based on conscious typing and I have made an special effort to avoid using the mouse .... Sorry ;-). It's just a tiny app to jump instantly to your folders.

Regarding the search utility "Everything" (Although I'm not an Everything expert), one should be aware, that "Everything" does not search files and folders on non-NTFS volumes, e.g. it would not find data at fat/fat32 formatted usb-sticks, sd-cards, mp3-players, harddisks, linux NAS sytems (Samba, etc) or network shared drives on LAN or WAN environments.

That is, Everything exploits perfectly a "by design" intrinsic feature of a particular file system (NTFS) but does not works out of this scope.

Folder Scout works with any type of data storage, local or remote, Windows or Linux file servers, without any dependence on the file system itself.

Is Folder Scout your application? It depends on your working habits, the way you organize your stuff and other hundreds of factors.

Just try it. For a day, a week or whatever. It's Free today !

Although Constantin Florea, from BDJ staff, has already sent you an email, please don't forget you should include the complete Reg Code, including brackets.

Don't hesitate contact me at support@folderscout.com if the problem continues.

Paul Scout @Brian De Bragança

Hi Brian,

Fortunately, you can install/reinstall this Folder Scout Standard promotion at any time without problem. You just need to store your License Key in a safe place ;-)

Hope this helps.

Kenneth Bates Only after trying to load this program, i discovered that this is exactly the same as the version offered in November last year. Since setting up my Home LAN (2 PCs and a laptop) I had not used the program, so was unaware that it would not work over the network. However, I have now bought the PRO version and hope all goes well with the other machines. Thank you for a very clean presentation.

Roland Fischer Hello Paul,

just to clarify for me. On what is the search engine based on?
Is this an index database or an MFT search? Which cant't work over networt or other Filesystems than NTFS.
Many thanks
May 12 at 8:14am
Paul Scout @Roland Fischer,

Folder Scout search engine works with an index database, allowing searches over any media.

This includes NTFS volumes, FAT/FAT32 formatted usb-sticks, sd-cards, mp3-players, harddisks, linux NAS sytems (Samba, etc) and network shared drives on LAN or WAN environments.

Olivier Gebuhrer Bits du Jour came to me in some magical way ; no idea of how it came on my PC ; however in at least two circumstances I have to declare the extraordinary choice made here ; really this is an opportunity for extreme congratulations for the choices ; first is Directory Opus 10 which I highly recommend as replacement of Windows Explorer; true , Windows explorer has greatly improved since the first versions but Directory Opus is a Jewel ; believe me I tried others ; none is performing , nice to browse , quick as that one which allows a lot of features that other do also ore or less ; here no surprises no bugs no nothing ; perfect . Same is true of FolderScout ; I bought Pro version and really what it does is amazing ; My English is to poor and I will not try to elaborate but comparatively with the absurd search tool in windows this tool is extraordinary ; Only one remark: this tool is sophisticated ; for simple or elementary configurations it is of almost no use but for elaborate configs this is something !!!!!!!!!! best regards Fantastic job

Brian De Bragança Further clarification needed:

'The Fine Print' says only one activation per footprint.

Does this mean that if you have a dual-boot setup - e.g. Win7 and Win8 - in two separate partitions on the same hard disk, you must have two separate licences or can you use the same licence for both if you don't also use a laptop?

VLM Ernest Kennedy - Thank you, I find your comments most helpful. It is particularly encouraging to know that FS reaches all the way down a deep hierarchy and that its performance seems \unaffected by size.

Srikanth Nadindla - Are you suggesting Everything because you believe it is complementary to Folder Scout, or because you think one might use it as a free alternative to Folder Scout?

Paul Scout - I never realized that the name came from a person's name. Always something new. :) I am curious ... Can FS be set up to find ANY string in a name, or must it always start from top-of-name? Thanks!

Everyone - Does anyone have experience using both Listary and Folder Scout. My impression is that they overlap in functionality, but I wonder whether they might also be complementary in nature. I say the latter, because Listary works using shortcuts, whereas Folder Scout works using name snippets.
May 12 at 10:12am
Olivier Gebuhrer It DOES work over a network !!! It does everything aside to bring your breakfast in bedroom .... Regarding Double boot , it seems that Scout already answered that but I do not remember where I have Double boot and It should work but I did not try yet ; should work because the SAME machine aside from OS ; registration is probably through internet and you have only one Ip address right?
May 12 at 10:26am
Paul Scout Hi Brian De Bragança,

License is per computer. Multi boot is not a problem.

Regards,
Folder Scout Labs - May 12 at 11:25am
Paul Scout @VLM,

The search substring can be in any position inside the target folder name.

You can also use special delimiter colon (:) as an AND condition for the terms that match in folder name. This allows easy search using two or more substrings, no matter which order they appear inside the folder name.

Please, correct me if have not understood it right. An example could also help.

Mark Chiang Thanks for making this available on BDJ, I'll be trying it on my Win8 machine shortly.

If anyone else was wondering about the difference between the Standard and Pro version here is a link to the comparison chart:

Paul Scout @Olivier Gebuhrer,

Thanks for your nice comments.

It will be very interesting if you give some details or examples using elaborated configs, in the case you want to share it with us.

DrTeeth @ VLM

Listary can work by bringing up a text box, either by using Win + S or by beginning to type with Windows explorer active. It also works with Q-Dir - my preferred file manager.
May 12 at 11:51am
VLM Olivier Gebuhrer - Yes, thank you for the clarification. That does sound typical to me.

Peter Ekkerman Just out of curiosity, what is the real "life span" of the BDJ 100% OFF version?

I "bought" this in Nov 2012 - same version - but although registered on the same day. each time I start FolderScout ,it says "30 day trial version expired.
I have to enter the reg code each time ,whether the program is exited or terminated via log-off or reboot.
in which case it makes it an extended trial version ,rather than a version that's unencumbered.

Appreciate a clarification on this. Thanks.
May 12 at 12:17pm
VLM Paul Scout - You have understood it perfectly, thank you. The addition of the AND operator is helpful. Is there, perchance an OR and/or a NOT operator?

DrTeeth - Thank you!
May 12 at 12:57pm
Olivier Gebuhrer To Paul Scout ; tomorrow I will give all details about that configuration

Thanks very much for your prompt answer.
I will contact support after the promotion since this is a busy time.

Alternatively ,I could get today's free version ,but then I'll have to wait
