Hide My IP

Cruise the Internet Under a Cloak of Anonymity

Sometimes you just want to browse the internet without leaving your unique footprints everywhere you go. Whether you're shopping for birthday gifts, looking at online videos, or looking at hardware upgrades, it's a sure bet that many of the websites that you're visiting are logging the IP address of your computer, and not all of these websites can be trusted with that information.

A lot of times, an innocent remark on an online forum turns into a flame war, and before you know it, you're banned from further participation by some overzealous moderator. But, really, it's not you-the-person who's been banned, it's just the IP address of your machine. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Hide My IP does exactly what it says - it masks your real IP address so that you can surf the web and send email anonymously, or rejoin services and forums that have restricted your access. With Hide My IP, your true IP address is always protected from nefarious websites that would seek to store your information for evil purposes - stuff like using your computer's IP address as the source for a hacking attack on another system, or lying in wait for you to enter sensitive information that they can steal. Did you know that your geographic location can be determined just from your IP address? Now you do!

Invoking the protection of Hide My IP is as easy as clicking a single button. One click, and your browser immediately starts sending a fake IP address (chosen randomly from a list of hundreds of anonymous IP addresses) to every site that you visit. You can even choose to encrypt your own connection to the anonymous "fake" IP address with 128-bit security, and have your fake IP address automatically change and dump accumulated cookies as often as once every minute! Once you exit Hide My IP, all of your internet browser settings revert to normal!

Genie au Travail To get full usage with this app, you need to subscribe to premium service ($7 / month)...
Aug 24 2011 at 12:39am
@ Genie au Travail
You can use it without a premium subscription. I'm using it and it works. Not very stable I must say. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. But it worked for me. But...:

@ My privacy tools inc.
I recently bought this and have mixed feelings about this software. Installation and using is easy I must say. You even explain to NOD32/Eset smart security users like me how to apply settings. But I have a problem with the last sentense in the product description: "Once you exit Hide My IP, all of your internet browser settings revert to normal!". Please explain me how this works. I have a piece of software called Simidude. I bought this on BDJ :-) This is a sort of Teamviewer software product, but I use it as a sync clipboard between on my home network. It uses internal addresses. When Hide My ip is installed Simidude does not work, because it says my network settings have changed and my communication port has allready been taken. Even if I disable all Hide my ip services and turn of the software it does not working because network settings stay changed. Only if I uninstall Hide mY ip the network settings are normal again.

2. What about privacy. Explain what Hide My IP stores about my web surfing. Your website says: "When Hide My IP runs, it sets your web browser proxy settings to show a fake IP from our IP database". How do I and other customers know who can see this information. Is it stored, logged or whatever? Make this a bit more clear to us!

3. Your website says: "Hide My IP uses only totally anonymous Elite Proxies". With a non premium service I sometimes experience unstable connections. When a connection is broken my real IP is shown even if I'm using your 'Elite proxie'?

4. When I used a bit torrent client, it was not hiding my IP, so I had a flase sense of privacy.

well, I have other things, but let's start with these. A few simple question which are helpfull (I hope) for BDJ customers.
Aug 24 2011 at 2:18am
Lupke Brother oops, don't know what happened. Posted as a visitor, but it was my post.
Aug 24 2011 at 2:22am
Brent Hather @ Genie au Travail
To use the full version of Hide My IP, you do not need the premium service. The Premium and Gold service are mainly for users who need or prefer to select a specific available IP location.

@ Lupke Brother
When you turn on Hide My IP by clicking the Hide My IP button, Hide My IP will modify your Internet connection settings to hide your IP address. When you click Stop Hiding IP or close Hide My IP, your Internet settings return to how they were before you turned on Hide My IP.

Some programs such as Firewalls or Internet related programs may be using a component called LSP, which allows many Internet programs to function. It is very easy to write an application that will break or cause other software to break when using the LSP. When a conflict occurs such as this, we recommend contacting the author of Simidude and inform them of the incompatibility. We have contacted many app developers in the past and got them to release a patch for their program. Sometimes it is possible to fix the issue on our end by modifying the way Hide My IP uses the LSP.

2. Currently we have only shared IP addresses, meaning when you set an IP with Hide My IP, websites and other Internet devices will see only the fake IP that Hide My IP shows, not your real IP. Other customers may be using this IP at the same time, which does not create any problem, as it is just like using a WiFi hotspot, Internet cafe, or hotel Internet connection, where IPs are shared, but no other user on the network can access any data about your IP, as no content log files are kept or recorded.

3. One big advantage of using Hide My IP vs using a VPN: when you are using a fake IP (elite proxy) with Hide My IP, and that IP has temporary issues or breaks, you simply will not be able to access the Internet. However with a VPN, the connection between your Internet device (computer) and the VPN could break, exposing your real IP without you knowing it. With Hide My IP, this will never happen, as you will show your real IP only after turning Hide My IP off.

4. Hide My IP works for all Internet web browsers, and programs in the list of Premium Supported Programs, currently there are no Bit Torrent applications supported in the list.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 24 2011 at 4:53am
Lupke Brother @ Brent Hather,

Thank you for your explaination. It's usefull.

I'm sure the developer of Simidude will contact you about the compatibility issue. I allready contacted him. He has great support and a good product and I'm sure he wants to solve this issue.

Hope there will be Bit Torrent support in the future!

Genie au Travail I have installed the software on one of my computers.
Is Hide My IP supports SRWare Iron ?

http://www.srware.net/en/...e_iron.php

SRWare Iron is based on Chromium.

I ask the question because SRWare Iron is not supported in the trial version but this version is limited in the browsers supported.
Aug 24 2011 at 12:19pm
Brent Hather @ Genie au Travail
Yes, the full version of Hide My IP supports SRWare Iron. Today we now support SRWare Iron in the trial version as well.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 24 2011 at 8:18pm
Gunderic Hagen This software work only sometimes and then stops working.. I bought two licenses directly from them. The software is exceedingly unstable, until it didn't work anymore. i asked "Support" to fix this problems. I did everything they asked me and nothing worked...until they said there was nothing else they could do. i asked them to refund me the money....Their answer was that the time for refunds had passed...

I think this is a company staffed by a couple of guys luring clients with a very low price for a defective software.

I lost the value of the two licenses, but in the era of the internet, people and companies acting with unethical principles cannot freely act with impunity.

I have bought good software from BdJ and must say i was shocked to see this company offering their "product" here..

Aug 25 2011 at 10:06am
Hazen Hoffpauir So, if I'm reading this correctly, your real IP address is hidden even from your ISP even without the premium service, is that correct?
Aug 25 2011 at 2:26pm
Brent Hather @ Hazen Hoffpauir
Not quite, your ISP will always know what IP they assign to you, just like your phone company, you can hide your caller ID so other people cant see your number, but your phone company still knows which number you pay for. What you can hide from your ISP with Hide My IP is your Internet traffic using the Encrypt My Connection feature (your ISP will not be able to see which sites you go to). The full version of Hide My IP can do this, without the need for the Premium Service.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 25 2011 at 7:16pm
Brian H Hi- how does this product compare to "Anonymizer"- the software offered at anonymizer.com? I have used their product before and get good surfing speeds, but it is rather pricey in comparison to this product. Thanks.
Aug 26 2011 at 12:45am
Brent Hather @Brian H
One main difference of Anonymizer is it is a subscription based service (about $80/year), while with Hide My IP, no additional payments need to be made to continue using the software: Hide My IP can be used forever. In terms of features and usability, our service is far better hands down for a number of reasons. As soon as Hide My IP is installed, simply click the Hide My IP button and you are set - your IP is hidden and you can select from thousands of IPs around the world, something you can not do with Anonymizer. The last time we checked, Anonymizer allows 1 IP per day. Other features of our software Hide My IP allow the integration of some of our other products which allow cookies to be cleared of all or specific websites when your IP changes. Hide My IP also allows you to hide your IP in selected browsers or applications, while not others, allowing you to effectively have 2 IPs at the same time if you wish.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 26 2011 at 1:25am
Patrick J. If Hide My IP is active and you maybe also have Flash or Java installed, run the anonymity test on http://ip-check.info/?lang=en to check if your real IP is hidden.
Aug 26 2011 at 4:37am
Dillon Geo I am using the trial version. One thing confusing me is that, after I select the hide ip option, I can see my real ip disguised when I visit some website, but for some discussion boards or forums, after I post or reply to some threads, my post still shows my real ip !!!
Aug 26 2011 at 7:28am
Brent Hather @ Patrick J.
Yes, that may be true for Hide My Ass, I have not personally tested that. But I have tested multiple other VPN services that privde an IP or hostname, username, and password to connect to the VPN. When the VPN "breaks" my IP was exposed. The Hide My Ass tool or Slid may do something in the background that prevents such breaking.

@ Dillon Geo
I recommend in the same browser window before you use the forum, check your IP on sites like www.ipf1.com or www.ipchicken.com. If those sites show you fake IP, then it is safe to post. If not, there may be an issue with whatever IP hiding software you are using. Another rare issue that could cause your real IP to show is if there is a cookie installed that recorded your original IP... no matter what IP you change to, when you post, the website reads the old cookie which recorded your original IP at the time the cookie was placed.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 26 2011 at 10:48am
Patrick J. Another test site: press the "Run decloaking test" button on http://www.ip-score.com
Aug 26 2011 at 11:37am
Jack Jones What about Gunderic Hagen's comments ???
Aug 27 2011 at 1:57am
Patrick J. And keep in mind, every operator of a proxy or VPN-server technically can monitor and log everything you do - when and where you surf. It's also possible to monitor the data (like username, password, form data) you transfer if you visit a website via HTTP.

Browser *--encrypted--* Proxy / VPN-server *--UNencrypted--* webserver (http://...)

If, the connection is encrypted only between you and the proxy / VPN-server. The connections leaving the Proxy / VPN-server are unencrypted (and therefore can be monitored.)
Aug 27 2011 at 2:25am
Brent Hather @ Jack Jones
We have never had a customer by the name Gunderic Hagen. There are other software programs with similar names such as Hide My IP Address and Hide The IP address, some of the copycats even copied parts of our website. We frequently get calls and E-mails from people who purchased other software with a similar name; they complain about how the software has problems and want a refund... but after we can't find the order, they realize they bought one of our competitor's software.

Hide My IP has undergone hundreds of major and minor releases and many hours have been spent on R&D to make it the quality product it is today. If Gunderic really is our customer, perhaps he bought one of the first releases that came out 5 years ago, where Hide My IP worked a bit differently back then.... we have fixed many known issues and compatibility problems since then.

Another thought: there are many rouge Internet security tools or spyware out there that break, corrupt, or conflict with other installed software, which also could have happened.

Gunderic is welcome to contact us if he likes so we can re-examine any issue he may have had.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 2:33am
Louis H @Patrick J - are you saying Hide My Ass is the better choice? Or? I'm confused as to what you are actually getting at regarding this particular app. I understand what you are saying about the technical side of the issue, but am trying to figure out what you are actually saying about Hide My IP itself. Pro? Con? Good choice? Bad choice? Better than? Worse than? Worth a purchase from your view? Not worth a purchase? Thanks.
Aug 27 2011 at 2:38am
Patrick J. It was generally spoken, things you should think about, and therefore I don't want to do advertising pro or const any special services or providers.

Install Hide My IP and run the both tests I've posted above (don't trust the most other "Show my IP" sites!)
If the both above can't detect your real IP while you're online with Hide My IP give it try.

MY personal opinion: the most well known VPN services cost money and maybe aren't the cheapest one. But regarding security (bypassing e.g.) they are much more secure. I never would use proxy software or proxy services.

And a nice side effect by a VPN: you can tunnel the firewall/proxy in your office ;-)

A question I can't answer: does Hide My IP also redirects DNS queries (through the proxy channel)? If not, your ISP or companies administration can still see what sites you're trying to reach.

To really use Hide My IP you additionally have to pay $7/month, nearly the same the costs of some VPN services.

(I'm currently using a VPN service)
Aug 27 2011 at 5:32am
Louis H Thanks for the response, Patrick. Sometimes I am thick as a brick and the clarification, in this instance, is helpful! I only wish the vendors of such things would be more upfront and honest about the need of a paid subscription to get the full benefits of such a service.

As to your suggestion...

I did. And they did. So I won't. ;-)
Aug 27 2011 at 7:18am
Dillon Geo Is it safe to use Hide My IP when you are shopping/banking online? will info be intercepted by a third party website?
Thanks.
Aug 27 2011 at 7:34am
Brent Hather @Dillon Geo
Yes we recommend using Hide My IP for shopping and banking websites, especially if you are on an unsecure WiFi network or hotspot such as a hotel, coffee shop, airport, as Hide My IP can encrypt all your Internet traffic with the Encrypt My Connection setting, preventing hackers from sniffing your credit card or banking info.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 8:00am
Dillon Geo Just purchased one. After instalation, the program says the license allows me to use the standard IP service for up to 1 year. Does that mean after 1 year, it will go back to the trial mode if I don't renew it? What does the "Product may be used indefinitely after purchase. " here mean?
Aug 27 2011 at 10:05am
Martin Z I just purchased, installed, rebooted and enabled. Went to three IP test sites (including the one in the software) and all reported my real IP address - not the one the software said it was using?? I'm running Win7 x64 - what do I do next?
Aug 27 2011 at 10:14am
Martin Z I found out it is working with IE, just not Firefox. I do have Fiddler installed (but not enabled) -could that be a conflict ?
Aug 27 2011 at 10:19am
Brent Hather @ Dillon Geo
At the time of purchase, you have access to over 1000 Standard IPs (plus 3 days for free of Premium which doubles your IPs). After one year, you will have access to the Basic IPs (not the trial), which give you more IPs than the trial, but less than Standard. There are currently about 100 Basic IPs. But the software will continue to work just fine in all other aspects. You can choose to renew the Standard service after one year to get access to all the 1000+ IPs again.

@ Martin Z
Did you reboot after installing? Is FireFox one of the selected browsers you checked in Hide My IP? You can try going to Advanced Settings and selecting "Enable Legacy Mode" which may fix the issue. We can do some testing with Fiddler to see if that is causing any conflict.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 10:30am
Martin Z I disabled the "Fiddlerhook" in Firefox and Firefox is now using the Hide My IP- IP. Would be nice if HideMyIP did work with the Fiddler addon.

QUESTION - Where do you enable "Encrypt My Connection" as noted on the web site? And is that option part of the "Standard" feature set?

The speed is very good by the way.

Thanks
Aug 27 2011 at 10:31am
Brent Hather @ Martin Z
That is great to hear. You can enable "Encrypt My Connection" by going to Advanced Settings, then Advanced tab at the right. Yes, "Encrypt My Connection" is part of the standard feature set.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 10:39am
Martin Z Thanks Brent - that encrypt my connection is what I use most when at a hotel or open Wifi. I feel that ability is easily worth the cost of the software, as most other non-VPN IP address hiding programs do not offer that feature.

Do pass on the Fiddle item to the developers please, it would be really nice to be able to use both a the same time.
Aug 27 2011 at 10:47am
SoftCollector Does not seem to work with Hulu - I chose a US IP, but still the site recognizes me as residing outside the US and would not let me watch a movie. Can this be fixed?

"Based on your IP address, we noticed you are trying to access Hulu
through an anonymous proxy tool. Hulu is not currently available
outside the U.S. If you're in the U.S., you'll need to disable your
anonymizer to access videos on Hulu."
Aug 27 2011 at 12:40pm
Anthony Larson Patrick J. What VPN services do you recommend?
Aug 27 2011 at 5:05pm
Brent Hather @SoftCollector
Not all IPs work with Hulu, so the solution is just change your IP until you get one that works. The first one I tested worked, the Los Angeles location, IP starts 184.*. I also recommend browsing hulu in the "in incognito" mode if your browser supports its for at least clear your cookies before visiting Hulu so they do not relate your previous session to the foreign IP.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 6:04pm
K X Sounds like a useful program, but disappointed to hear from a post above that there are important details of the license, not listed in the policy here on Bits, and only revealed and after buying and installing the full version. That after 1 year, you will have access to 1/10 of the ISP and there's an annual fee for Standard service. How much is that? Does the vendor web site make a renewal price clear?
Aug 27 2011 at 8:04pm
Hazen Hoffpauir Seems you have to pony up an extra 2.95 above the deal price for registration protection. What the....
Aug 27 2011 at 8:44pm
K X Hazen, I've seen a number of companies charge extra for registration protection, and it's often been more than $2.95 extra. (Of course, a lot of companies also don't charge to let you retrieve your license.)
Aug 27 2011 at 9:03pm
SoftCollector No, I cannot confirm that the program supports hulu. I tried everything: "private browsing", clear cache, clear cookies, change the IP. It simply does not work, so I am giving up.
Aug 27 2011 at 10:12pm
Brent Hather @K X
If you check the BTJ policy section for Hide My IP, it states "Free upgrades for minor versions, paid upgrade with no discounts to future versions." - which was the closest way we could indicate optional payments to renew the Standard service, there was no option to set a price. Yes, we clearly state the renewal policy on our website and knowledge base. The renewal price is $19.95.

@ The Presiding Emissary for Vibrant Living Ministries and Successors
Sorry I had missed your earlier comment. I have already mentioned about logs in my reply to Lupke Brother, no content log files are kept or recorded. As far as truly knowing, as an example, if Google or Facebook tells you they are not selling your private information or allowing governments access at will to your info, how can you really know, unless you work at such companies perhaps. I think this answer would apply to any company.

Yes, I assure you your https inquiries are secure.

For your question about "Encrypt My Connection", if the site you are using does not support HTTPS in any way, the Encrypt My Connection setting will allow you to access the site as if you were using HTTPS (at least between your computer and our proxy, as it is not possible to encrypt HTTPS to normal HTTP once the communication leaves any proxy server).

@ Hazen Hoffpauir
No need to pay for Unlock Code Protection if you can safe your license key in a safe place. Most of our competitors, if they offer that, charge about $6 for that same service. = )

@ SoftCollector
Have you tried the Los Angeles connection I used that worked for Hulu? If not, can you provide a list of IPs you tried? You are welcome to schedule a remote desktop session with our support if you like so they can get Hulu working for you.
My Privacy Tools, Inc. Vendor - Aug 27 2011 at 11:00pm
VLM Thanks Brent for sweeping up, so to speak.

I do see that you keep no content log files. Here, I focus in on your choice of words, and I don't mean to be overly pedantic. But do you keep ANY log files (e.g., simple transaction or event logs), and if so, of what and for how long?

Regarding Google, Facebook, and the like, people have found their price lists (and Yahoo, and ....), so we KNOW they are lying, that's a given. These are the great privacy destroyers of our time, and it never ceases to amaze me how people, who seem knowledgeable and who claim to be very interested in privacy, keep using these companies' services and products. No one in his/her right mind should ever have a meaningfully used email account (gmail, Yahoo mail, etc.), or a toolbars, browser (e.g., Chrome), etc. from any of these companies. It's self-defeating WRT personal privacy in every conceivable way.

But I digress. Now I would ask ... since I asked while the deal was in progress and now the deal is expired ... is there any way to get on board? Also, does the one year start from the purchase date or from the installation/activation date? (For example, if I buy a license now, anticipating the purchase of a new / additional computer in a few months, does the year start from the time when I put the software on the new computer, or now?)
Aug 28 2011 at 1:57pm
I bought and use this program a lot and like it. I just saw a post above listing this site: http://www.ip-score.com for testing purposes. I tried it and found that Adobe Flash Player has my real IP info and it's accessible to others. How can I remove this and prevent it from keeping my real IP? Thanks!?
