E P While I enjoy BitsDuJour very much and appreciate that they offer Mac applications, it's embarrassing to see MacKeeper being offered.

Why?

You can also read the glowing "reviews" and make up your own mind. As a Mac user since before OS X, I know that I would not even give this one a try. I value my data too much. In addition, plenty of the functionality can be found for free. I would rather give my money to more serious, well respected developers.

One thing I will acknowledge is that Sana Paul, from Zeobit, actively responds to many of the criticisms this app receives. That does not make the criticisms less valid. I would not install this on my system if they paid me $1,000.

Full Disclosure: I have experienced their idiotic marketing via popunder windows, so I'm quite pissed-off at them.

Nico Westerdale E P It appears your concerns are on how MacKeeper does it's marketing, or how others market MacKeeper on their behalf, and not on the software itself. Mark thanks for taking the time to respond, of course we at BitsDuJour can't be responsible for how others market their software elsewhere, but we know a good app when we see one =-D

Thanks for your response. I actually did try your software in November 2010.
In brief, some features did not work, others were advertised as coming soon, the ones that did work performed poorly in terms of both speed and results, and the application even crashed.

Interestingly, plenty of 5-star reviews existed and others were added at that time. Should I trust those and not my own experience?
I'm sure that if you keep a revision history there's a chance that you've fixed plenty of bugs since November. For example:
Fixed freezing of MacKeeper upon the attempt of scan during the removal.
Fixed possible inability to display the found items list in Undelete.
Fixed possible mistakes when comparing bundles in Duplicates Finder

It's fine to fix bugs, except that the glowing reviews have already lost their credibility. There's also an issue regarding conflict of interest since plenty of sites with glowing reviews benefit financially from the sale of your software.

Slander involves making false statements. There's no need for anyone to "slander" ZeoBIT. The software -and the positive reputation of other developers- speaks for itself. Not to mention that some functionality is available to the user for free, so developers have no reason or incentive to "slander" your company.

Based on my experience using your software, and based on the reputation that your company has created for itself, I would not give it a second try. BTW, when I tried it I was unaware of ZeoBit's reputation and judged it solely on its performance. I promptly removed it from my system.

Your reply was not present when I posted mine, so sorry for not addressing you.

I have tried the software. If it had worked properly, the main advantage would have been having every function centralized in a single interface making things convenient.
A lot of the functionality is available for free. In the case of functions that were not available for free, other applications did a much better job. And there was the issue of reliability. i wouldn't perform disk maintenance/repair functions with software I distrust. That's why I chose to pay for software from Araxis, Koingo, Prosoft, Synium, Bresink, and many others. Better quality, great reputation, even if it meant spending a bit more. My data are worth it.

Nothing against BdJ. Love this website!

Nico Westerdale @E P, Thanks for the reviews, I know you've got a lot to say on the subject of MacKeeper, and I'm glad you did try an earlier version but as we're on a new version here I'd suggest giving the trial a go and seeing how this one works for you.

Feeback is always welcome, helps to keep our vendors making great software!

M Willey I agree somewhat with E P, my experience with Mackeeper was questionable at best. I tried the Mackeeper "free" trial about a year ago and it was only free to "scan". I was told I had to pay if I wanted the Mackeeper application to "fix" all the "problems" it found. I felt like that was a dishonest "trick" and just removed it.

On a similar note, I got a call from my father a few months ago because he thought he had a virus. He said he downloaded a "free" program that was sent to him in an email, then he was constantly bothered with pop-up ads. When I went to his house, it turned out an email from Mackeeper had been sent to him, and the Pop-ups were for him to buy Mackeeper. He wanted it removed as well.

So i guess im wondering, If this was my father's and I 1st impression: feeling like this application was a con, Why should I want to download and try your product now? Im just trying to keep an open mind here

I bess it's important to do a little research before buying apps.
Mackeeper needs a lot of work, and if you email them for support then good luck. The chat technicians are useless.
