Jason Howard Obviously this is a rebadged/licensed distribution of Horizon DataSys "Rollback Rx".

I notice that the Magicure website has Build 2695405581 for download. According to the Rollback RX release notes http://www.horizondatasys...7440.ihtml this build was pre November 2010.

Since the current MagiCure build (2695405581), Rollback RX has released 3 updates, the latest (26967287695) updated May 18, 2012.

Some of these (missing?) updates include support for SSD with Trim, AFD hard disks and a bug where setup fails on systems with 8GB or more RAM. I noticed that the Magicure FAQ http://www.magicuresoft.com/support/faq explains - "If the SSD drives has the TRIM option enabled, MagiCure cannot process the disk IOs properly."

Is there an arrangement that bugfixes and new features from Rollback RX are ported across to MagiCure in a reasonably timely manner?

Customers considering purchasing annual maintenance should be made aware that if immediate (same-day/month?) access to software patches is needed, they should probably consider purchasing Rollback Rx instead. Waiting for the next "OS" release for bug features or new hardware support really isn't good enough.

Rollback and magic cure boot before windows before windows which is the thing that saves your bacon.

Also, it saves my present data [assuming i tell it to] even if i rollback several weeks

It is blindingly fast, no restore point has ever taken more than 20 seconds, some take only 2 or 3 seconds. I take 6 snapshots a day and on bootup. I have two computers which refuse to even run windows restore from the get go.

Manual defragmenting can take some time [ok, maybe 10 minutes for 10 to 12 snapshots so i tell Magicure to do this when I am going to bed when i remember so i do not get unexpectedly held up when i am in a hurry. or i just go pour a cup of coffee and come back and i am up; But this is no big deal. I have already used this program to save my butt on at least 6 occasions.
The largest snapshot on my system was 302 mbs, [my new baseline on a drive with 625 gbs of data, but often 200 to 1000 mb, with 1 today of only 29 mbs. The data space overhead for Rollbacks/magicure is very minimal
I have several other image and back up programs, which would create files that are several hundred GBs to save the same data i have now and are mostly incomprehensible propietary files except one that creates zip files, and another that saves incremental changes but in my process manager notices it sometimes eats up 25% of my cpu.

Doug Myers Let's say you have a bad software install, bad driver install, or worse you get a virus today. You use MagiCure Pro to rollback to a previous date to cure your system.

1. What happens to those "bad" files that were sitting on your PC? Do they get automatically deleted? Or, do you now have to find them and delete them manually?

2. If you do get "bad" files on your PC, could MagiCure Pro accidentally pick up those files before you realize that something bad happened to your PC? If MagiCure captures them, would you have to then figure out which snapshot(s) had the files and then delete those snapshots?

Judi Bunner Is there a way to stop the file synchronization on restore. I don't understand the reasoning for this. To me, if I take a snapshot it should retain the files and folder without change. I use another program for this and sometimes I need the older versions of files to remain in the folders I have placed them in. Perhaps I have misunderstood what you are saying. Noggin The Nog The problem with this software, as with Rollback, is the conspicuous absence of any explanation of how it works. It is easy to understand the concept of recreating the disk by restoring it from an image file backup, and thus to know how to build a system around it, but there is no explanation here of what is happening. Is there a backup somewhere? Where? How is it made so quickly? Othewise, how can deleted files be restored? A lot of us have complex systems and are not too keen on messing about playing blind mans's buff with sotware in respect of which we have no idea what is going on or how to work it into our systems. The bottom line looks great, but such a lack of information rules it out I am afraid.

Walela In your MagiCure Deployment Whitepaper under section 4. Deploy Magicure In System Image says to "Create an Advanced Setup Configuration File (SETUP.CFG) with the Advanced Setup Configuration Wizard utility provided in the Support folder on the program CD."
With the download do you get all the files that would be on on a CD including the Advanced Setup Configuration Wizard utility?

When you rollback your system, your bad driver install or virus doesn't exist!!!
2. Sorry but this process should be manually. Bad files, virus, wrong DLL's are all software accident. You should decide by yourself, but MagiCure allow you to do that in seconds!!!

No reason you can not use Disk Image, Incremental backups, etc. or any other back up process or tool in addition to using this
You will simply find that you will try this first because it is so fast and with so little overhead you can set the frequency of snapshots to many times per day so that you do not lose more than a few hours work, if that.. this allows you to keep your system more up to date than you would probably do if you only Disk Image

i agree there is little explanation and the first time i ran out of disk space and went through a repeated loop of boot and reboot.. it took 2 hours to figure which options to click to break the cycle.

If i understand, the software simply builds pointers, and occasionally defrags them. It does not really Image the whole disk, or only does it once and then successive snapshots build upon that unless you decide to set a new baseline.

It simply works. For instance I was trying some partitioning last night and my system would not boot. I simply picked a snapshot 2 hours old, and voila back in business only losing the time for an extra reboot.
. Much easier than the whole disk image thing.
I currently disk image about 1 x per week or 1 x per month, but with rollback i snapshot upon every reboot and 6 times per day during waking hours. when i build up too many snapshots i simply leave 1 per day and then i defrag them to rebuild the pointers.

[If I did purchase now I wouldn't use it until that next version becomes available anyway.]

2. I understand that MagicCure makes changes to the operating system, possibly including the kernel. If one uninstalls MagicCure, is the operating system fully restored to its original state?
