So we've moved beyond having stacks and stacks of paperwork strewn about our home offices, and while we've never achieved the mythical "paperless office" of the future, we're in a pretty good spot. But how do you store all of those digital documents? Do you just let them pile up, in a virtual stack, in your My Documents folder? Just as a proper storage and retrieval system works for actual paper, so too do you need an effective strategy to deal with digital documents. First, you get My Digital Documents 2012.

My Digital Documents 2012 offers a powerful and flexible electronic file storage and retrieval system. With My Digital Documents 2012, you can drag and drop files directly from Windows Explorer, drag and drop email from Microsoft Outlook (2003, 2007 & 2010), import web pages (as MHT Web Archive Files) directly into your database using Internet Explorer or Firefox, and you can transform your hardcopy papers to digital format using a powerful integrated scanning function. An improved and convenient multiple keyword search lets you pull up any document, Web pages and or Emails in an instant, and the Category Explorer lets you organize your documents, Web pages and Emails in a way that makes sense with your workflow. Best of all, My Digital Documents 2012 lets you create an unlimited number of document databases, letting you segregate your files into as many databases and categories as you wish!

Once you've pulled up the file that you need, you'll marvel at how many options My Digital Documents 2012 gives you! You can export any document to your hard drive, open them directly in their native application, or take advantage of an integrated Document Viewer that's sophisticated enough to handle PDF files, images, text, rich text, and web pages! If you're the custodian of some particularly sensitive material, you'll be glad to hear that My Digital Documents 2012 offers 256-bit encryption to safeguard your files.

My Digital Documents 2012 builds on the powerful foundation or My Digital Documents 2011 and offers more features, flexibility and capabilities.

Martin Hamilton We have received a number of emails asking whether those who purchase the 2012 edition during this BDJ promotion will receive a free upgrade to the 2013 edition of MDD (as we did from the 2011 to 2012 edition) and would like to announce that this tradition will continue for this promotion as well -- and the answer is yes.

In fact - all licenses will be upgraded (regardless of the purchase date - all previous licenses) to the 2013 edition on request when the 2013 edition is released in the first quarter of next year!

Sydney Keith What can you tell us about Windows 8 compatibility, and what are the comparative strengths of your program versus PaperPort?

Martin Hamilton Sydney, with regard to Win8 capability;
What this means is that the application has been tested on Windows 8 and the interface has been upgraded to deal with the new way that Windows 8 displays fonts and so forth in the Windows Forms - it is different actually and that suprised us - and caused us to reformat every screen to accommodate the display as otherwise the text on buttons and so forth were 'chopped off', etc.

In addition, there were some slight alterations necessary to deal with other changes in the OS, but as these were found - they were fixed/modified accordingly.

As for the comparison, we have provided a chart on our website (relating to all 3 versions) and suggest only that you evaluate the features against the other document managers according to your needs/requirements. I say this in this way because, in some ways - our product is quite different and indeed more powerful from other document managers in that our product can 'scale' with your needs to SQL Server for instance and the others often cannot 'scale' in this way. This is probably something best left up to you to decide depending on your requirements.

Should you have any additional questions please ask. Our website probably answers most of them but I will be more than happy to assist you as best I can.

Carlo Caputo Using the personal edition trial, I get a SQL error when defining a new folder: String was not reconized as valid DateTime (with Date_added="24.11.2012 11:12:06"). Does the program work with Win7 Region/Language set to German, and if yes, how?

Martin Hamilton Carlo, Yes the date should work. Please send me an email at administratordataobjx.net and I'll provide you with a link to a special build.

Martin Hamilton Dear Customers
It appears that the installable has an issue when creating a new folder. We apologize for this inconvenience and have FTP'd up a new build that can be downloaded here: http://www.mydigitalapps....uments.msi

All customers who have already purchased MDD 2012 will have received a link to this new build along with their license key.

Once again, we apologize for this inconvenience

Alexis Baranek I downloaded it after purchase from the website - nothing works - it freaks out and gives error messages. So this link is a different build? I am stuck with satellite internet which right now is near the top of bandwidth limits so downloading right now is a problem. Guess I will have to wait a couple of days if I need this new download to make it work. I don't understand how the one I downloaded could work so poorly when surely these things are tested beforehand. Can't create a new database or various other things and then it freezes and I have to use task manager to close it! I sure hope this link is for something that works!

We recieved your email relating to one (1) error that you encountered when attempting to save a FireFox webpage to the database (not sure what you mean by nothing works) and we sent you a reply email asking for more information so that we could replicate the issue you reported but have not heard back from you yet. If you could please respond to that email we're more than happy to attempt to replicate and correct the issue - if we can replicate it.
We received one other bug report in build 2.65, fixed it immediately and uploaded build 2.66. Our response to reported bugs is immediate and we generally fix reported bugs within 24 hours.
Please reply to the email we sent you and we'll see if we can sort this out for you.

Rosalind Share I purchased MDD here on Bits Du Jour. I can honestly state that not only is this application excellent in terms of what it does, the support from Martin Hamilton is in an altogether different category. I cannot recommend this software highly enough. For example, if there is a problem, email Martin and you will have a helpful response very quickly. In developing the product, adding to the features, there will always be bugs, especially when another new OS (Windows 8) appears. On reporting a bug, Martin usually manages to fix the problem. I tend to find the most obscure bugs probably because I am used to testing software.
@Carlo - that was one of the bugs I found and has been fixed!

Daniel Tanguay I have to say I love the GUI of your software and it's tree structure capabilities vs. my companies current digital document solution (Evernote @ 100+ users).

The problem with switching is that we don't want any DB files. As anyone who has had an Outlook file go corrupt can tell you it's no fun. Also, these files become large, so backing them up with every change is not practical.

Evernote's monthly cloud additive storage structure is the one feature in my opinion that makes them the 100 pound gorilla. If there is any chance of you guys adopting a similar cloud model in the future I would keep tabs on you.

P.S. - You will find that one of EN biggest complaints in the forums is there limited folder structuring as they rely solely on tagging. For many companies your software would be better.

Hi Charles, could you send an email to us at administrator@dataobjx.net as we'll need to ask you a few questions to determine the cause (and these forums are not the place for that of course)... looking forward to hearing from you.

Martin Hamilton @David

We are exploring a cloud option at the moment AND we're also experimenting with a Full Database backup with incremental backups/restores... so - we are definitely looking into this type of option.

Thank you for your kind words and interest in the My Digital Documents Suite.

Jaydeem Martin, I have been looking for a good digital document manager and the reviews of your program are impressive. But I am having considerable difficulty installing and running the program on my Windows 7 Pro x64 system.

With time running out to purchase at the discounted price I am tempted to buy being assured of a refund under your 30-day money back policy if I find the program doesn't work for me.

Would you confirm this is correct please?
