Albert C. Does anybody know if the antimalware engine is original from Outpost or 3rd party? If it's 3rd party, who develops it? Thanks! ^_^

Nelson Carvalho (Excuse my English)
I don't know another better product that Outpost Security Suite Pro. I recommend. However, it only reaches its full potential if the user has good computer knowledge. Their features are complete and efficient.

I suggest not to miss this opportunity to buy it, because the price is too low for a product with so much quality.
Jul 23 2011 at 8:30am
Victor Kovalev Agnitum's comes from own Anti-Trojan and Anti-Spyware developed since 2000 and from Microsoft's Forefront Securite engine partner VirusBuster who also provide engine to about 5-7.

They also have Agnitum's SmartScan technology to optimize repeated scans incorporated, Agnitum's Removable Media Protection module and Anitum's ImproveNet (cloud-based automated security configurations system for all Outpost users)
Jul 24 2011 at 10:50am
Frank Stephens While far from perfect, I also recommend Outpost Security Suite Pro. Very highly rated by Matousec (but always out-of-date and they're not testing on newer versions of Windows which have very different security models). Very high-performance depending upon settings. The VirusBuster engine is weak but that's largely irrelevant, the behavior monitoring catches everything depending upon settings and your ability to respond to the prompts. Detailed interpreted logs, or use the raw text logs for even more detail. Too many people want to use a bunch of separate products which reduces security from false positives, negatives, and conflicts. Pay the bucks for a decent all-in-one suite and don't use other security products.

Martin Zinaich How does the 3 PC license work if I install on a WinXP PC now and in a month or two upgrade that PC to Win7. Is there a way to unregister?
Jul 25 2011 at 10:22am
Victor Kovalev It's OK to use 3 PC license on any number of OS if you use not more than 3 simultaneously.

License is not OS-dependent, it is PC-dependent (so, virtual systems are counted as new PC).
Jul 25 2011 at 11:25am
Martin Zinaich Victor, I probably wasn't clear. If I use the 3 licenses and say one of those licenses is on a PC running WinXP, that I later upgraded to Win7 - is there a way to get that switched, so it doesn't look like I'm installing on a 4th PC. So one of three licenses will be used on a PC that later is upgraded - I don't know if the registration is hooked underneath to the OS/Platform and that re-installing (same hardware) after an OS upgrade will look like another install... make sense ?
Jul 25 2011 at 11:41am
Victor Kovalev Íf you migrate from XP to W7, licensing system will "forget" the previous OS in few days. So you will be still legal user for 3 PCs license. The same thing works when you reinstall OS and Outpost.
Jul 25 2011 at 11:49am
Martin Zinaich Perfect - looking forward to using the software!

Steven Avery Hi Folks,

This is a suite deal :) .

Agnitum made their name in firewalls, so that would be the heart of the use, alone with the related HIPS. I assume if you get the suite you can pick and choose which elements to run. (Firewwall, yes, HIPS yes, Anti-virus No, Web yes, Keylogger, No .. that type of thing) That way if I turn around and switch to Avast or Eset, etc for anti-virus, my Outpost is still an excellent help. Please confirm some element of modularity. I believe in layered systems so I always separate out some components to have overlapping security. Else I would just wait for a Outpost Firewall Pro deal.

I have been using their free firewall on my work puter with generally satisfactory results. (They came back to the free aspect about 2 years back). At home I use Online Armor, now owned by Eset I think. Outpost and OA are in many ways the integrity leaders in firewalls over the years. Others are good, but many tend to mix in junk aspects.

One annoying aspect of Outpost was that I would continually say to fully ignore the techie Nirsoft program that monitors keystrokes yet it asks me every bootup. However if I am taking the program more seriously this is the type of question I would ask Outpost support or I would put on their user forum. Little foxes can dangle up vines.

WIth Avira having shot themselves in the foot with the Ask Toolbar and Uniblue Registry Booster disaster my normal Avira-Online-Armor approach has to be changed. Online Armor also has the new owner and my paid registration perspired :).

All in all the $20 investment looks solid, very worthwhile. Those of you who have existing paid suites on your system (I do not) might want to search Wilders or Google about another deal from Outpost.

Shalom,
Steven Avery

Victor Kovalev Steven, all the features are the need. It's impossible to turn off Outpost's HIPS Anti-Keylogger module, even when you turn off AntiMalware. Because it is Anti-Leak option. And you are wrong regarding Anti-Virus - it works fine, with no damnification (false positives). Blocking malware is almost 100% http://www.pcmag.com/imag...857,00.asp
Jul 25 2011 at 10:57pm
Steven Avery Just to be clear, I did not say anything negative about the Anti-virus, simply that it is not the more native part of the Agnitum history. Often Suites vary in strength and you would expect the more long-term native parts to be stronger.

You may have meant Frank Stephens above, who criticized the anti-virus a bit, all us Americans have names that sound alike :) He was actually more pro-suite than me, I prefer mixing and matching products from a few companies under the theory that the baddies might target the behaviour of one defense mechanism. Also the occasional redundancy is interesting to compare.

The reason I would turn off Anti-Keylogger, if possible, is because I use Zemana and the redundancy there might be so-so.

Overall, I might do better with the Firewall Pro, I hope you will put a similar Bits for that product shortly.

Just to reiterate .. I consider your company excellent and this BIts excellent. I have 15 minutes to decide !

Shalom,
Steven

Victor Kovalev Firewall won't be sold on this ultimate price even at BitDuJour. But you have an option to turn off Anti-Malware and Anti-Spam modules in Security Suite while installatiion.

So use this chance and get Outpost offer now :)
Jul 25 2011 at 11:47pm
Frank Stephens Steven Avery, your approach to security is incorrect. Read my earlier comment. A high-quality all-in-one suite always stomps separate products in terms of both performance (no duplication of effort) and protection (no conflicts). Online Armor used to be good, but they got bought by Emsi (lousy). Note that Emsi no longer submits Online Armor for testing. I've never had a problem with Outpost repeatedly prompting when a prompt has been (permanently) answered. Don't waste your time with the user forum if you encounter a genuine bug, that what tech support is for. I don't waste my time with so-called security forums, they're just like any other forum, 99.9% of the posters are clueless, perhaps 0.1% of the members actually know which way is up.
Jul 25 2011 at 11:49pm
Steven Avery Hi Folks,

Frank
"A high-quality all-in-one suite always stomps separate products.."

And I respectfully disagree, especially as a single suite is a single target. Granted Norton-PCTools and McAfee and Symantec (corporate oriented producst) would be the primary targets for a one-attack attempt, however any suite has that limitation.

You pointed out the difference in strengths, dismissing the virus solidity question. And I understand that anti-virus is over-rated, but your own dismissal goes against the position of definiteness for suites.

Zemana is dedicated to keylogger and even that one realm is very complex. WinPatrol is dedicated to startup and is far stronger in that than any suite. WebofTrust and SpywareBlaster and certain other programs focus 100% on net stuff. Malwarebytes and SAS are very strong "on demand" in my real world experience.

With a multi-vendor layered approach, you mix and match what you like. There may be dual warnings at times, but I really do not mind that in the least.

Feel free to point me to a Wilder's thread where this is discussed and we can continue.

Probably you are right on Online Armor. I wrote "Eset I think" instead of Emsi, and there is a bit different. Too bad. Although for now, I am still satisfied with OA where I have it, not rushing to replace.

Shalom,
Steven

SoftCollector Dear All,

I have been using Outpost Security Suite for years now - it has one of the best firewalls on the market. For two days now - and for the first time since I have installed it - I have run into problems with it.

They have just introduced some functionality to control USB threats (v7.5.1), but it seems it is still buggy, because every time I disconnect a USB flash drive or HDD, I get BSOD.

This has forced me to reinstall Windows three times for the last two days (happily enough, using Norton Ghost, makes that a breeze) and it had me scratching my head on more than one occasion.

I hope they can get their software back on line as soon as possible, because having paid for OSS and not being able to use it is a major inconvenience.

UPDATE: As it turned out the BSODs were not caused by Outpost, but by a faulty driver of RAXCO PerfectDisk v12. RAXCO Support really took their sweet time in locating and fixing the problem (more than a month now) and the situation remains partially unresolved.

The important thing is: although OUTPOST support remains a little tardy and they never sign their emails, the software works as advertised and does a great job at what it is supposed to do.

So - buy on!

Kind regards,
SC
