I just counted up my passwords because it's a weekday morning and I don't feel like doing actual work. I've got my email account, two blogs, three online shopping portals, a metric ton of affiliate site logins - and those are just the ones that I use regularly. It's even worse trying to keep track of the passwords to sites that you don't use very often - I usually just click on 'Forgot Password' and jump through those hoops.

That's why Password Manager is going to make my life so much easier. With Password Manager I can safely and securely manage multiple usernames and passwords - way more secure than that "passwords.txt" file that you keep on your computer (admit it, we've all done that). Password Manager is superior to the 'Remember Password' function in your internet browser because Password Manager keeps all of your information locked away in its database until you, and only you, unlock it!

Many evildoers don't even try to hack the major online portals anymore - because the weakest link in the chain is the user sitting in front of the computer! Instead, they install keystroke logging software and just wait for you to log in - capturing your user id and password in a snap! Using Password Manager, which auto-fills your info without keystrokes, you're protected against keylogging programs!

Even better, Password Manager comes with an intelligent form filler that only auto fills your login information for sites that it recognizes. So if the site looks like your bank site, smells like your bank site, acts like your bank site, but INDEED IS NOT your bank site, Password Manager keeps you safe!

K H I'm looking for a new password manager, so this caught my eye. It looks like only three fields are available for any one entry. What I can't determine - for sure - from either the description on this page or the screenshots, is if there is a way to store the additional information that some sites require. Often, more than one password must be entered, and financial institutions require answers to questions. While those answers should be easy to recall, some of us must create fictional answers because we come from very small families and/or don't remember our first grade teacher's name, or moved often enough that there is no answer to: What is the name of the street you grew up on? So - we sometimes forget them.

Another thing I'd like to know: is there a way to separate different types of websites, banks, credit cards, forums, bill pays, etc. or must they all be lumped in together?

Rick Truell K H, you might want to take a look at KeyPass (http://keepass.info/). I've used it for a while now and like it a lot. It's supposedly capable of automatically handling bank sites with multiple login screens but I haven't gotten around to checking that out yet. Regardless of how well that functionality works, each entry has a big text box in which you can enter information, such as answers to questions as you describe above. And since the database is encrypted and password-protected, that information can't be found by casually looking at the file. That same text box can be used to modify the way that KeePass automatically sends login info...you can include things like tabs (to move from field to field) and spaces (to de-select the "remember me on this computer" type thing). As to your other question about PM, KeePass comes with one major category and several sub-categories in which to group entries, and you can create additional categories or sub-categories as needed.

While KeePass is a Windows program, it can apparently be run on Linux, Mac and even the *BSD's using Wine or Mono, and there are ports for several portable devices such as the Blackberry and on the PalmOS! KeePass can also be entended...there is a long list of plugins available. And *all* of this for *free*...KeyPass is open source and thus the source code is available for downloading.
