Hmmmm............... I check out donationcoder, GAOTD and Bitsdujour every day or so. Interesting that this particular software application came up for sale today. Sort of a "spy vs. counterspy" game of academia. Actually a couple fellow programmers and myself are working on a program that addresses the issue from the opposite direction. Example: -Someone picks a topic to write an essay on. -They find a bunch of data about the read moresaid subject, compile it into a cohesive article. -Then they'd run a "plagiarism detection application" against it to obtain a baseline "potentially plagiarized" score. Enter our software application: -Which would dissect the article, manipulate the subject matter and compile (re-compile) it into an article they could use. - Manipulation using the appropriate high school or college grammatical database, so as to match their "grade level" to their essay. (A 10th grader submitting a paper that appears to be created by a post-grad student would obviously stand out and just shout, "RED FLAG") It goes without saying we'll be buying full, licensed copies of the "competition’s software " (AKA plagiarism detection applications) To help us create a better "anti-mousetrap" ;^)
Hello Doug, A piece of interesting information, I think. I have encountered several tries to create an automatic "copy+shake+paste" applications, they are being developed by black SEO to provide content for websites - so that Google will consider them original. I strongly believe that the software you are talking about WILL work, computer is not able to correctly mix ideas and in the long run any human reading this text will 100% see that this is a "mixture" not an original one, and in relation to academic paper this will render the final result useless. The battle is still there, isn't it? :-)
