eb235 Any reason (1) why the full price (tax excl.) is not same in the US and in Europe (e.g. $140.73 in Switzerland) and -even more important and harder to justify- (2) why the promotional percentage off is not the same (around 39 % in France/Switzerland/Belgium instead of the advertised 54%) ? Thanks.

Software Guy There are three big OCR packages and a free one. The big ones are ABBYY Finereader, Nuance Omnipage and ReadIris. The freebie is simpleOCR http://www.simpleocr.com/ . I use all of the packages, and each has its advanyages and disadvantages. If you are an intensive OCR user, then spend the money and get Finereader - it is the most consistent in producing the best results with fewest errors. We use Finereader to scan books (use the Plustek Bookscanner) to doc files to be converted to text to speech (IMHO the Ivona voices are the best). If you are a Dragon Naturally Speaking user, then use omnipage as they offer update discounts and bundles. If you are an occasional user and do not want to sink too much money into your OCR, then use ReadIris. At $59 today, Readiris is the clear cost to value winner. It is a great deal and easily the best cost to value at this price. For infrequent use, the free simpleOCR works adequately but requires (sometimes considerable) cleanup.
In my opinion the accuracy goes:
FinereaderOmnipageReadirissimpleOCR BUT with decent input to work with they all give very good results. It is as the input quality of the scan deteriorates that the differences really begin to show.

The developer might clarify the licensing - it is a per user with hardware footprint. The question is - how many machines is the user permitted to install - desktop plus laptop plus netbook - before a footprint transfer is required? AND, is a family pack license available so wife/kids may use?

Hope this info is helpful to some BDJ users.

Morten Hjollo This promotional price seem to be only for US citizens, or whatever. I live in Norway, (and we are NOT members of the EU..) but still I have to pay a ridiculous extra tax. The price is 86,19 USD, and for that price it's no problem to find competing programs. The mentioned price of USD 59 i a big lie. Like eb235 states - why are there such ridiculous differences in prices?

Peter R I agree with eb235 and Morten Hjollo. For Germany, the price of this offer would be $ 107,57. So it seems that all countries except the US are in fact excluded from this offer, because they can not get 54% off. Maybe one of the bdj admins would like to make a statement about this; it is not the first time that this is happening.

Roger Thomasson Prices often change depending on the country. This is not something we (or the vendor) necessarily have control over, sorry! Many of these taxes and fees are levied by the purchasers' country, and they can be quite substantial. Nothing we can do about them, and we certainly don't expect our vendors to bear the cost.

Regardless, keep in mind that there is still a substantial discount no matter what your country of residence.

Shame on IRiS [irislink.com] I don't believe it is the fault of Bitsdujour as Bits'is merely the conveyor and not the actual merchant.

I always buy my software in US Dollars as i don't know which country I'll be in at the time of purchase but when this deal is for the country of delivery of Australia the purchasing currency is ONLY available as Australian - no choice offered - WHiCH iS RiDiCULOUS GiVEN THE SOFTWARE Can BE DOWNLOADED, and the prices are as follows:

$148.61 AUD
- $57.60 AUD

=$91.01 AUD

At a time when the Australian dollar buys more than the US Dollar why isn't the Australian discount actually the same (USD$70) or even slightly greater???

M M I concur with previous comments. For most Central and Eastern Europe countries the price is €80, down from regular €130, not even close to 54% off, or $59 per license.

Consider this when reading about software piracy outside of US, if the price in much poorer countries is so much higher.

And you can pay only in €, regardless if local currency is € or other (why not $, if possible for some other countries like Croatia???).

Very bad pricing policy, no deal though I was highly interested.

Jean Sibe $59 should be 42€, now price is, as mentioned earlier, 79€ which equals $108,8 USD.

If retail price is $129 that means my discount-% will be 15%. Ehm, sorry but I am skipping this.
