Michael K I have used this software since 2009 for recording webinars and but for one issue I would be happy to recommend it unreservedly.

On a couple of occasions I have contacted Applian support and received timely and efficient responses. However, there is one long standing functional issue that I believe is very important which has not been addressed, so clearly they don't think it is as important as I do.

The problem is simply this: You cannot "pause" a recording being made in Windows Media format.

You can pause a recording if the format you have chosen is mpeg2 but as the resulting files are MUCH larger in that format, I always use WMV format for webinars and that cannot be paused.

This means if you record a webinar or anything else for that matter and there is a coffee break or for any other reason, you have to leave the recording running complete with a real-time break in it or you have to stop the recording completely and start another recording on resumption of the session.

Applian tech support suggested recording in mpeg2 which can be paused and then converting the file to WMV format. The is not great suggestion when the real solution lies in fixing the shortcoming itself.

The result is you then have editing, conversion or joining to do which can all bring there own issues whereas a simple pause function when recording in WMV format would make all this unnecessary.

Applian have not taken this problem seriously since I first raised it in 2009 and have left the matter unresolved which is a pity. I merely got an answer a long time ago, that it would be dealt with in a future release because their developer was having a problem with it but to date you still cannot "pause" a WMV recording.

It is a nice application which, for me at least, is somewhat spoiled by this most basic but important, functional limitation.

Have you tried any other programs to fix your files? I know it's an extra step, but if you search online for "make wmv seekable" or "re-index wmv" I think there are some free tools out there which you could use on your existing files.

- Thanks for your thoughts and yes one can "slice and dice" the files so to speak but the point is that it should not be necessary to find such workarounds.

The solution is for the recording software to include such basic functionality as a "pause" facility for all file formats and not just the one that creates massive file sizes.

Michael K I must confess to being somewhat surprised that the vendor has chosen to not respond to the "pause" issue I raised in my post.

For me that indicates not having concern for customer feedback and also that the issue is not going to get attention or a fix, any time soon, if at all.

A pity on both counts.
