Startup Organizer

Improve Your Boot Times

You've scanned your computer for malware, and it came up clean. So, why, you ask the computer gods, does it take so long to boot up every morning? Well, perhaps the first clue would be to look at all of the startup programs in your system tray! Each one takes time to load, you know. I mean, really, no one needs THAT MANY programs running!

Startup Organizer provides quick access to all of the programs that are automatically started when you boot your computer, giving you the ability to inspect, edit, and temporarily disable them for massive improvements in boot speeds.

With Startup Organizer, you'll be in complete control of your startup programs! Imagine being able to dictate the order in which your startup programs load, or to insert delays in the run order to allow some programs time to finish so that others may place nicely with them. Using the Controlled Startup feature, you can even skip certain programs during startup by holding a key down as your PC boots.

As useful as Startup Organizer is for the individual user, it's even more beneficial for machines with multiple users. By providing you with the ability to work with the startup configuration of any user in the Windows Registry, you'll be able to customize the startup programs list for any of them, simply by dragging and dropping! You can even add programs to multiple users with just a few clicks! That way, you can keep your startup configurations optimized for the way that each user works with the machine!

Yudha Yan Kusuma No discount for upgrade to future version?

Version 2.9 has been around for years, so version 3 might be coming soon.

Aug 4 2011 at 8:03am
Alexander Bednyakov Lee Christoffers, thank you for your question.
Startup Organizer helps you to do things available in msconfig.exe in more convenient manner. In addition, it provides you with more advanced functions, like Controlled Startup, Startup Guard, backup & print configuration options. You can read more here: http://www.metaproducts.c...atures.htm

Please note that you can download the trial version and try it for free: http://www.metaproducts.c...osetup.exe

Preston Mitchell I am a big sucker for new software that maintains the health and performance of my PC. But I fail to see how Startup Organizer is better at controlling start-up programs than Win 7's native REGEDIT.

What is more effective than disabling the registry keys of the offending start-up programs listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run ?

Nonetheless, speaking as a Bits regular, I appreciate all software developers who offer their products here--thank you!

Gonzo How does Startup Organizer differ from other Startup management utilities such as Chameleon Startup Manager or Autoruns?
Aug 5 2011 at 4:00pm
Pedro Laurent Preston Mitchell with all the respect, not everyone here is a tech-savvy as you to go and mess around with windows registry, you make it sound easy if that was the case this type of software wouldn't exist to begin with.

Steven Schulman I see Alexander Bednyakov say: "The registered user can upgrade to the next major version for 50% of the regular price."

I see the policy say: "Free upgrades for minor versions, paid upgrade with no discounts to future versions."

Which is it?

Rich OBrien Many years ago I surveyed every program of this kind and bought this one, MetaProducts StartUp Organizer. What StartUp Organizer does is provide you with the clearest possible picture of all programs that start automatically and it provides complete information about how those programs are started. StartUp Organizer introduced me to MetaProducts and on their website I discovered an astonishingly large selection of other software. They constantly upgrade their software and bring out entirely new software. Over the last 20 years we've seen one software company after another give up or sell out. MetaProducts is what a software company should be, dedicated to the craft of making ever better software. I use their Inquiry program all day every day. At $12.50 Startup Organizer is a steal. Steal it.

Soft Wiz Well, the truth is that a zillion other software titles do the same - the functionality is not unique. What is different here is the so called Controlled Start Up where you can disable running of predefined progs in real time. But, again, you may never need to do that, so... Out of 30-40 running programs on startup you will not need to disable more than 1-2, so that is not a big improvement.
Aug 7 2011 at 2:53pm
Richard Blake The upgrade page indicates that major version upgrades are free (or were free for v1-v2) for those who purchased after March 1 2003 (presumably shortly before v2 release). This tells us that in the past Meta Products has conformed to customary industry practice; perhaps they will again next time. It also tells us that the v3 gestation period has been quite long. (But maybe there has been no need for a major redesign / rewrite / version upgrade. That v2 has survived from Win98 through Win7 says something, either about this product or about Windows itself.) Paid v2 upgrade is priced there at $15 (in the description) or is it $12.50 (in the form)?
A very favorable review at cnet: http://download.cnet.com/...ag=mncol;9
I don't see many reviews there that get a 4.5 from both the cnet editors and the user community.

Steven Avery We discussed this on Donationcoder. This is definitely one of the crisp and fine startup programs. WinPatrol may be better for security aspects, but for overall general utility Startup Organizer is great and in many ways the best. I don't think I upgraded from 1.9 (2002) so I'll probably do the deal. After a little spin drive. Yes, Chameleon is good, too, with a friendly developer and some others have advantages (more techie, this and that). All that said, I think that Startup Organizer is a nice program to have in your utility arsenal. Unless you are super-tech, you really should have at least one good one.

SoftCollector I bought it - and am happy with it. One question:

1. Is there a way to change the sequence of startup objects - one of the processes on which internet depends seems to start very late and everything freezes for half a minute before that (obviously waiting for said process), even the HDD does not spin. This is very strange... The culprit is either HP Wireless Assistant or Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro... This happens on every reboot and I was hoping to use Startup Organizer to change the startup sequence.
2. If it is not present in the current version, could it be included in the next one?

Kind regards,
Aug 11 2011 at 1:15am
Alexander Bednyakov SoftCollector:

This feature exists. There is a Controlled Startup category. You may move several programs to it and set order, delay between starting these programs, etc.
MetaProducts Corporation Vendor - Aug 11 2011 at 5:22am
SoftCollector Thank you for addressing this issue, Alexander!

I have tried using the Controlled Startup category and noticed the following:

1. When a startup object is put into this category, it also stays listed in its original one.
1.1. Even when all objects are dragged to the Controlled Startup (one by one, there does not seem to be an option to select several or all), some of them are listed with numbers under ALL USERS, and some are listed without numbers, so it is a little perplexing.
1.2. Also: one can drag the same objects into the Controlled Startup category again and end up with several controlled instances of the same object there. Is that normal, should it be allowed?

2. I have listed the process in question (the one whose start I would like to speed up) as No 1 and it still runs last. I guess not all processes can get higher priority.

3. Although I was careful to put all startup objects into the controlled directory I noticed that some of them did not start when Windows was restarted.

4. In the end I decided to uninstall the program and maybe give it a fresh try later on. I just felt that I was no longer sure - with objects present in both Controlled and Normal Startup, and some of them present in Controlled twice, and some not starting at all - what exactly was going on.

5. For the deinstallation I used Revo Unistaller and it reported the following left overs:

http://www.picbg.net/pic....D&i=571883

It may be nothing (if those are going to be deleted automatically on next restart) , but on the other hand - it may be worth looking into.

Kind regards,
SC
