Michael K Can a single license be installed on both a PC and a laptop at the same time.

Thanks

Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear Michael!

Yeah, you might have seen in the Policy - "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed."

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi

Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 23 at 1:27am
Michael K Hi Oleksandr,

Yes I did see the policy statement but "transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed." does not mean the same as being allowed to install and use the program on a PC and laptop at the same time. It actually implies that it can be installed on a single computer but can be "transferred" to another one if needed as opposed to being able to install it on a laptop and PC concurrently, which is much more convenient and a benefit to the user.

You might want to get a bit of clarification assistance from Roger at Bits to make the policy clearer for the benefit of others who may not see our "conversation".

So, I take it from your response that we will be able to install the program on a PC and laptop at the same time without restriction.

Thanks

Michael
Jan 23 at 3:09am
Eddie Tex Michael K, both the policy and some of the prior comments indicate that this product is "per user" which means you can install it on any machine in which you are the primary user.
Jan 23 at 7:21am
Michael K @Eddie

When a policy says licensed "per user", it does not always follow as you state, that it can be installed on any system where you are the primary user.

In my humble opinion, these questions are best answered by the developer as they are the only one who can provide definitive answers that carry meaningful weight.

Thanks

Michael

Oleksandr Reminnyi Thank you all for this small debate.
The answer is yes - single user can apply one license on all his workstations.

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 23 at 7:51am
Eddie Tex @ Michael K, that's interesting. Do you know of any instance where "per user" does NOT mean that you can at least install on both a desktop and a laptop (which was your original question)? I've never seen that myself.

In any case, it was not only written on the policy tab, but the question was also answered by the developer in the "older comments" section as well.

Fredrick Hello,

I was hoping to view some well throughout or actual Stepshot sample documents in HTML and PDF formats in order to best understand the capabilities/potential of the software. I was not successful in locating sample output on the Stepshot website; if applicable, could someone please point me in the direction of some solid examples of Stepshot output. Related, I am not a big fan of installing trial software on my computer prior to researching a program and viewing sample output when applicable.

Thank you.
Jan 24 at 11:24am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear Fredrick,
You are right about samples. I've added links to the outputs on the main page of www.StepShot.net site.
Here is a direct link for PDF sample:

HJ B These comments illustrate why BDJ should have clear definitions of software features that are then displayed as to each offering. Either because of language problems or willful equivocation or amateurism, there end up being repeated dialogs in which readers rightfully seek to nail down features:

1. What are the installation rights?;

2. Is this the current version of this software?

3. What other concurrent versions of this software are there (e.g regular, pro, advanced, etc.?

4. Is there a pdf manual for the software?

5. Is there a known bug list?

6. What operating systems does the vendor certify are compatible?

7. Are program rights lost if the software becomes corrupted or inaccessible due to failure of the computer on which it was originally installed?

8. Are future upgrades offered on par with upgrades of paid version?

9. What benefits, if any, are included as to future upgrades?

10. Is there any point in saving the installation module after installation?

Roberto when i make a screenshot the mouse cursor fill is transparent. I mean, i can see through it, showing the background of the image.

is this the normal behaviour?

im on xp.
Jan 25 at 3:41am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear Roberto,
Yeah, the behavior is expected, as far as we don't wont to hide some information on the screen, we just want to highlight the point.
You can disable adding cursor and highlighting cursor in the Settings - Image Processing panel.
Also I would like to mention that color of highlight is different for right and left mouse clicks (half-transparent yellow vs. half-transparent pink).

Rick Przebienda Hi Mr Reminnyi,

I just tried to purchase your product via Paypal and the link seems to be not working, because it would not bring the sales information into Paypal, like it did for my other BDJ transactions. I will try again later on my lunch hour or from home. I am pretty excited about your product.

I'm glad you like the app, but the sales are processed by one third party provider. Could you please write a direct email to me so we could clarify the issue?

Louis H Can anyone actually using this software post a review of your experiences? I have the trial version but would appreciate hearing from folks who have past experience and can discuss the pros and cons from their work with it over time. Thanks.
Jan 25 at 5:40am
Nico Westerdale @HJ B,

First off, watch your language.. you're skirting a fine line and we like to keep the tone friendly here.

If you take a look around the web you'll quickly realize that our "Policy" section on the right of this page goes way above and beyond what any other download site has to say about exactly what's on offer in terms of the license for the software. About half of your questions are clearly answered in that section.

As I'm sure you know, we always feature the most recent version of software, unless we clearly state otherwise. The operating systems are displayed underneath the "Buy" button.

Your other points about, bug lists, a PDF manual, things like that, crop up very rarely here, and I doubt that information about them would be a deciding factor for anyone. We like to give you all the relevant details to purchase, but similarly we don't want to blind people with minutia, that's why we link to the developer's website. If you would like to see this type of information on our promotions please start a thread in the forum and we'll discuss it, we're always looking to improve what we do.

bob roos What are the newest things in this release? I have used StepShot to document procedures and have found it very convenient and easy to use. A picture is worth at least a thousand words. Support has been excellent. I recommend StepShot to anyone who has the task of trying to explain to someone how to do something Step By Step.

It is also useful for tracking program bugs. Have you ever had a problem and are not sure how you got there? With StepShot you can set a number of captures and go about your work. When the problem happens you have a map of the steps and a screen shot of the problem. I test software and this has made the problem definition much clearer.
Jan 25 at 6:40am
HJ B @Nico

1. I do not know what your reference to "watch your language" refers to. Nothing I wrote warrants it.

2. More than half of the comments that readers write have to do with effort to clarify software descriptions and claims, and they reflect many other readers who do not write. A standardized spec or disclosure form would save a lot of time.
Jan 25 at 7:09am
Louis H @bob roos... thanks for your input on the software itself. Comments like yours are very helpful to me when deciding even if I want to install a demo in order to explore the software further.

@Nico... fwiw... I have found that in the overwhelming majority (98%) of the offers I am in interested in purchasing, the licensing info provided by BDJ has been more than sufficient for me to decide, at least regarding that aspect, if the program offered is worth further exploration. And in the few cases where it isn't clear to me, I have found the vendors willing to clarify or have been able to clarify for myself by visiting the vendors website.

I know my "standards" for such things may not be as exacting as others, but from one of the folks who spends his time mostly in the "cheap seats" section when it comes to utilization of software, I remain very satisfied with how you all at BDJ have continued to respond and adapt based upon the needs of both vendor and consumer.

And in all the time I have been around, and with all the purchases I have made here, there is only 1 - a SINGLE one - that I list as negative. And that was nothing to do on BDJ's part, but rather on the part of the vendor months after the sale. So keep the offers coming!!!!
Jan 25 at 7:18am
Nico Westerdale Ok guys thanks for the comments on the license terms, but let's keep this thread clear for StepShot. Any further discussion on the subject please add it to this thread here which details what we're asking vendors:

Chintan Karnik fyi: There is a built in program in windows that will record each step with a screenshot and place a description for each click.

If someone needs a absolutely free solution that is without bells and whistles ...try this: goto start - Run - type in "problem steps recorder".

Arkadiusz Robert Oleksandr - i have two question - can I buy personal license to my company and use software ? (only I - one user)
how much cost is site license - for example to two users ?

Regards
Jan 25 at 9:10am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear Chintan Karnik,
StepShot gives you variety of exported formats, reach editing, sharing capabilities, spellchecker & etc, that cannot be said about Problem Steps Recorder.

Dear Arkadiusz Robert,
Feel free to use your license at work if needed. It does not violate the license rules. Site license starts at least from 5 users. Further clarifications should be discussed personally - contact@stepshot.net.

I see purchases are done via Pay Pal today with the same frequency as via other methods.
Please, try once more. Otherwise, contact me personally (contact@stepshot.net) and we will contact PayPro e-commerce support for assistance.

R Brown Is there a known issue when using this on a 32 bit Vista machine? It continues to crash without saving the document; so I've lost everything each time. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it, no luck.

Also, will there be any updates to the program in the near future? If so, will we receive them?

Thanks!
Jan 25 at 3:12pm
Official Dave Ah. Thanks, R Brown. I have a 32-bit Vista machine. Perhaps I won't get it if you're having issues.
Jan 25 at 4:13pm
bob roos @ official dave -- I just installed it on a 32 bit Vista machine. It had to install .Net 4.0 first, but it installed and runs just fine.

If you want the function at a great price, buy it. I have found the support to be excellent.
Jan 25 at 5:24pm
FlyTheAirplane @ R Brown & Official Dave

I've been using the StepShot demo on both Vista (32-bit) and Win 7 (64-bit) without any issues. I've successfully exported some practice projects in all of the available formats (.pdf, .rtf, .xls, .html, & mht) in both versions of Windows. The results are excellent! I'll be purchasing soon.
Jan 25 at 7:05pm
Official Dave Thank you bob roos and FlyTheAirplane for taking the time to tell me about your experience with StepShot. I purchased the license and have it installed and working perfectly. Thank you again.

Brian Harley I have downloaded StepShot 5 times so far, and every time Norton deletes the download claiming that it contains virus WS.Reputation.1

Is there somewhere I can download a version that will not be deleted by Norton?
Jan 26 at 5:20am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear Brian!
Be sure there is no virus. The executable is signed with mine trust certificate (Oleksandr Reminnyi), received from Comodo.
The problem is that Northon does not know my installer. I suggest you disabling the Northon. In order to prove that installation contains no viruses - use some public service like VirusTotal for example. Sorry for inconvenience.

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 5:35am
Brian Harley Discovered the reason why Norton use WS.Reputation.1 and then found the "deleted" copies in quarantine. Simply released one of the downloads from Quarantine and have now successfully installed the software.

Just hope I can test it before the deal deadline.

Thanks for your response.

John Gann I just purchased two licenses and it charged me $48.44 - should be $27.98. What's up?
Jan 26 at 6:52am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear John,
that was the discount coupon setting, I've updated it. Any way, the price on your order appeared to be $48.44 before purchase, so you could just skip the payment.

Anyway, I thought we have clarified this item in email.

Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 7:13am
VLM When StepShot captures one (or several) screen images, is each of these stored separately as a distinct file, or are they all collected into a document or framework of some kind?

In other words, if I were to capture a screen using StepShot, would the image, with or without annotation/editing in StepShot, then be available for import into, say, an email, Word file, or the like?

Thanks!
Jan 26 at 9:31am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear VLM!

It is available, but without annotations. Just save as separate history file, the folder will contain images. Ctrl+C from the image editor copies into clip image with merged annotations.

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 9:47am
John Terdik Is there an option to constrain the capture to an application? Example I want to create a procedure to install application XYZ, when I click I only what windows associated with XYZ I don't want the entire screen.

Also are there any issues with using this on dual monitors?
Jan 26 at 10:37am
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear John!

1. There is "Active Window Recording" mode.
2. Dual monitors are supported.

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 10:42am
VLM Thanks Oleksandr. So just to make sure that I'm very clear on this point, a user cannot use StepShot to

1. Capture image.
2. Annotate image.
3. Save annotated image as image file accessible to other apps.

Is this correct?

Also, does StepShot have an option to capture or not capture movement within the capture area (as mouse movement)?
Jan 26 at 12:47pm
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear VLM,
A user CAN use StepShot to
1. Capture image(with hotkey or menu bar click).
2. Annotate image (with cozy editor).
3. Save annotated image as image file accessible to other apps (as PNG, JPG, BMP). What I meant is that you will need to do saving for each separate image, not for bulk of those.

Also, does StepShot have an option to capture or not capture movement within the capture area (as mouse movement)?

Mouse moves without clicks are not captured. But you can use the timeout to capture mouse down & up separately for such scenarios as Drag&n&drop. I suggest you to play with the app first... That must clarify most of your questions.

Best regards,
Oleksandr Reminnyi
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 1:24pm
VLM Ohhhhhhhhhh ... I'm very glad I asked for clarification. Saving the individual images is fine, at least for me, no problem!

Regarding the second item, above, so Step Shot provides a series of still images, so to speak, not moving images/video of any kind. That seems clear. Thank you! There are other apps for that, of course. :)
Jan 26 at 1:40pm
Roxanne Brown Hi Oleksandr Reminnyi,

I will definitely reach out to you. I have it on another machine (a 2nd license) and it works fine (Win7, 64 bit). I don't know why it keeps crashing on the Vista 32 bit - it's when I try to save it.

I think the progam is great and I love it! It has saved me a lot of time and I can't wait to get it working on the Vista machine.

Thanks for responding!
Jan 26 at 4:18pm
Jesus Perez Just bought it. It works GREAT on Win7 64-Bit. I had to Exit out of Snagit first, though. Fine piece of software, Oleksandr!

Question: How can I remove the StepShot logo from the first page and the circular images on the right?
Jan 26 at 7:20pm
VLM Oleksandr, a technical question ... Can the shortcut keys be reassigned? Obviously, they conflict with other applications (such as SnagIt, but by no means ONLY Snagit and other screenshot apps. I realize that I can use HotKeyz or the like to reassign them, but really, IMO you should provide this capability.

Yes?
Jan 26 at 7:28pm
Oleksandr Reminnyi Dear jesus!
Images depends on the template you use. Try different to find the most suitable!

Dear Vlm!
The hotkeys can be set on the first tab of the settings dialog.

Regards!
Shot Solutions Vendor - Jan 26 at 9:55pm
VLM Curious ... why would one have to exit from SnagIt first? Conflict of shortcuts? Or otherwise?
Jan 27 at 4:52pm
bob roos @vlm I do it because I am too lazy to assign something other than PrtSc to StepShot for the rare times I want to trigger a screen capture as part of the StepShot sequence. I usually just use the mouse clicks to trigger things and there is no conflict so SnagIt keeps running.

Actually lazy is not the right word. I am afraid that if I assigned a different shortcut key, I would not remember what it was and then would have to look it up. Easier just to kill SnagIt.
Jan 27 at 5:13pm
VLM @Bob Roos - Thanks for clarifying! I just wanted to make sure there isn't some fundamental, known conflict between the 2 apps.
