What are people saying about Tenorshare Music Cleanup

Carlos Gomez It can't find my iTunes database because it is in another location other than the C: drive (My Music). Can I tell it to look in my external hard drive, since I don't keep my iTunes database in my C: drive?

amanda tsai Hi, Carlos,

This is Angel Harrison from Tenorshare support team. It is my pleasure to help you here.

Per your case, could you close iTunes and reopen it? and then scan data with Tenorshare Music Cleanup. You can scan iTunes data no matter where it is located.

Any further questions, please feel free to contact us!

Best Wishes!
Angel Harrison

Carlos Gomez Hi Amanda Tsai, unfortunately, what you suggested didn't work. I tried closing and reopening iTunes. I even tried restarting my computer, but Music Cleanup still doesn't see my iTunes database. The error I keep getting is: "No iTunes installed in your computer. Please install the newest iTunes firstly". Please note that I have the latest version of the iTunes software installed. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

adrian rightsell I'm not their tech support, but it may not be the program itself, per se. I've used Musicbrainz as my tagger and I used to be able to drag and drop into that, but after upgrading, I can't. Noticed it with a few other programs too. So it could be a windows permission issue they introduced in 10. You know, the notorious "features" . ;) I would keep it for now and see if that is all that is wrong. If it is something on our side, they can point us to where to fix it and it will help us on other programs that do it also. If it is their's, a simple patch or work-a-round could be implemented and it works.

adrian rightsell Did some digging, and it is a 10 issue. The fix is to disable UAC, but then that breaks other things (like Edge and universal apps). So it is a damned if you do and damned if you don't. Now I did find some hope: there is a "bug" in their "feature" that allowed it to work because some reported not having that prob in 8 or 10. But I haven't found if anyone isolated that without disabling the UAC.

Now it is in Tenorshare's court (because we know MS won't budge or "fix" it anytime soon). I'm not at my comp right now to test this, but it has the option to select a music file manually. Problem is, it's just the files, not folders. If you are like me, you have it organized by artist/album/(Disc#/), so that can take a very long while. I'll report back if individual files work.

adrian rightsell I was also reading that wasn't 100%, post was from around last year and 10 has been updated since then. They may have "patched" that "bug". Why so adamant about the drag and drop issue? I don't know. I thought it was more convenient to do the drag and drop into a program. I'm going to try another program to see if it does the same thing and keep looking while until Teno gets back for y'all. But I'm just an every day techy, so I may not find the solution, so no hopes up, okay? This is more than a issue with this software and isn't fully their problem, but they shouldn't have relied on just one solution to input a folder when the old browse method has been around forever. Cross fingers someone can figure something.

Oh, and for the record, assigning admin rights to the program or running it as Windows 7 compatible (where people said method always worked) didn't change it. Disabling UAC, enabling Admin and win 7 compatability? Worth a shot.

Larry Miller RE: MY original comment earlier this morning.

Just maybe to clarify -- I do not have itunes installed. Using Tenorshare's "Add Music" button will NOT add a folder. The Tenorshare software also will NOT permit me to drag & drop my music folder into the program's main window. The "OPEN" button in Tenorshare will only recognize individual music files, NOT a folder. These 3 inabilities make the program totally un-usable for me. UAC permission does not change what I can do.

adrian rightsell Okay. It is a windows issue, but it is also the program's fault. Just tried it on a new version of Musicbrainz Picard and Amazon Cloud Drive app, both do drag and drop, and they worked like they were supposed to. Tried my old version install of Picard and it didn't. Since it worked on Win 7 (don't remember 8 much), something changed. And since the new version works on win 10, it shows there is a fix (or "proper way"), but it will probably be on the vendor side. So, I do like the idea of this program, but for 10 users, it's useless for now for a lot of us (there may be a few it does work somehow). It does say, though, it goes up to 8. So it was at our own risk, so to say. I do hope there is a patch, fix, non-risky work-a-round to get this for us10 users.

btw, manual adding of files does work. Just will be tedious for those like me. I can also confirm iTunes 12.3.2.35 x64 is not recognized.

adrian rightsell Yep, defiantly does, you are right, Larry. Above goes up to 8, but the site does clearly say 10. Same versions posted here and main site. even says iTunes 12.3 and that is what I tested on and it didn't recognize like Anne and David said. Every problem can be duplicated and verified not working. So the main functions of this program doesn't work, at least for 10 users.

So Tenor, you have your info:
Windows 10 x64 (possibly x32)
iTunes 12.3.2 does not get recognized by the program (at least that version)
Drag and Drop does not work.
Turning off UAC does not solve
Running with Admin Rights does not solve
Running in compatibility mode up to 7 does not solve
Combining the two above does not solve
Uninstalling/reinstalling does not solve
Windows version in range. iTunes version in range. So both are compatible as stated
SFC shows no errors. DISM just in case does fine. Does not solve.

Balls in your court Tenor. I tried a lot of "Well maybe..." for ya and these guys shot them down and I have nuttin'.

For y'all looking for a tagger, I normally don't do this but Musicbrainz Picard is very good, fast, and free. The database is huge and community updated, so if an album is not listed or wrong, you can add it and correct it (did a few myself). It is also peer reviewed so joe shmo doesn't add an AC/DC album with Frozen songs. (Although it would be interesting to hear their version of "Let it Go")

For a duplicate finder, I haven't found a good one yet that is accurate enough to handle large libraries without double checking it. Trying similarity (Paid, but has trial. Using paid), but it may be more in depth for the average user (I'm still learning to read and tweak it).

To add a problem I had to the list:

Did not find the tag for a list of songs in an album that the tags were completely missing. The files had the title in the name and were in folders listed artist/album. So I know it doesn't use those for clues to find the tags. Firewall forwarded and later disabled completely to eliminate firewall issues.
