The Journal

Write, Organize, Remember, Find.

The Journal

Trust us folks, this ain't your boy crazy thirteen-year-old daughter's diary!

Not that you couldn't use it as such, but The Journal is much, much more.

It's a powerful journaling and writing tool that can help you take control of your life with unmatched convenience, flexibility, and security.

Here are a few things that the The Journal lets you do:

  • Create a digital scrapbook.
  • Organize notes about your family, your work, a hobby... anything.
  • Write a short story, a magazine article, or even a novel.
  • Remember your appointments, events, tasks, and special days.
  • Find whatever you're looking for with a powerful search tool.

The Journal is always available whenever you need it, and lets you create entries with text, images, and just about anything else you can think of.

Best of all, just like the little aluminum lock on your daughter's Hello Kitty diary, The Journal's password-protection and encryption ensure that all of your private thoughts and information remain safe and secret.

Written by Roger Thomasson

Key Features:

  • Organize your thoughts: The Journal supports as many entry categories and topics as you desire. Even mark different parts of the same entry with one or more topics!
  • Review past entries with just a click on the calendar!
  • Powerful word-processing features: Utilize powerful word processing features like live spell checking, thesaurus, dictionary, and auto-correction!
  • Store anything, including: text, digital photographs, links, etc.
  • Easily print your entries for binding or sharing!
  • Set reminders for appointments, events, tasks, and special days.
  • Quickly import entries from other journaling software.
  • Conveniently post entries to a blog.
  • Keep your secrets secret: State-of-the-art encryption and password protection. Other security options include a hotkey for rapidly locking The Journal and a "Lock on Minimize" feature.
  • Built-in backup and restore.
  • A powerful collection of search tools: Search for a word, a phrase, or a collection of words (with simple OR and AND operators). Search by topic, in all of your entry categories, just the categories you specify, or in a date-limited rage.
  • Link to anything: Link to other entries, to bookmarks within entries, to web pages, email address, files on your local computer--even to content within other software on your computer.

Real Users Say:

  • “I just wanted to thank you for writing such a useful program. I use it daily to record my thoughts, which I later review as I write my poetry. The easy reviewing of my previous thoughts from other days has alleviated much of the writers block I experienced in the past. Thanks again for the great software!”- Gregory Allan Clark
  • “What a great program! I have been journaling on my computer for several years now, but have never been happy with the program I was using. Once I found yours I immediately moved all of my data over...and registered. Thanks!”- Craig Miller, GIS Applications Developer, Pacific Northwest Geographics

    @Vendor,

I noticed your site mentions you have bundles that include writer prompt add ons.  Are those addons included in the promotion?

How do the prompts work?  Can they be made to function like a  template so the daily journal entries will contain specific information that is requested?

Can the prompts be configured so they say what I want them to say?

  • Jul 8 2010 1:23pm
    David Michael (DavidRM Software Vendor)
You can purchase the add-ons when you purchase The Journal, yes. They add $10 each to the order.

You use "Insert Template" to generate a random prompt in your current entry, then you can respond to the prompt. You can also set a prompt to be automatically inserted each day.

You can edit the prompts, yes, or add to them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks David,

I played around with the create templates.  It's a pretty cool feature, and I can see a couple of ways to might use it.

one more follow up question regarding the addon.  I'm still trying to understand it.

What does the customer get with the addon?  Are they purchasing new software components, or are they purchasing the content of the prompt?

    A couple more questions, please...

Do the "Buy the Journal" buttons on the toolbars and menus go away once the product has been registered?

What else can The Journal do?  Do you have a tutorial or any documentation demoing features and capabilities?

    Thanks,

    Jim

The add-ons provide large collections of writing prompts. They are separate from the writing prompts provided as demos in the software. The add-ons create new category tabs that contain their templates. So you're purchasing the content.

Yes, when you purchase The Journal you are sent Registration Keys that convert the trial version to the full version, and remove all the "Buy The Journal" buttons.

I've written books with The Journal, and I maintain a handful of blogs using The Journal. I store passwords, manage projects, track goals, and more.

If you haven't checked out The Journal's Web page, there is a lot of information there. Especially in the accumulated monthly newsletters that are posted there. Click on the Help menu and choose "The Journal Home Page".

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I've been using Version 4 of The Journal for a while now.  I do not know all the ins and outs of it, but I LOVE IT.

The thing that is so "outstanding" about The Journal is that:  WHEN you buy the software YOU GET David with it.  Of course he does not come to your home and personally teach you ;), but...

He created a Yahoo Group where "HE IS VERY" active in helping solve challenges.  You DO NOT find this anywhere else that I've experienced except maybe at my own website. ;)

I have not upgraded yet to version 5, but maybe I will now.  I will certainly share this great value with others.

This is great software for writer's.  I have used it for over five years and David Michael listens to the users suggestions and responds to questions you may have about using the software. It has a lot of features and at 50% off the regular price, it is a tremendous deal.  Tell your friends!

I am very interested in trying The Journal out.  I noticed on your website that you have a version 5.  Is this price listed here for version 5 or version 4?

    Chris,

This sale price is for The Journal 5.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Very nice program and one I know will be very helpful in keeping me on track with keeping a journal. It did not take very long trying out the trial version to realize it is a keeper. And then finding out how involved David is with his customers, well, that sweetened the deal even more.

This is why I have come to love BitsDuJour. A great opportunity to get a wide selection of software at very nice discounts.

Thank you to David, and BitsDuJour, for offering it here.

Hi, this is the same question that gets asked for all software. Is the license for single cpu, for one non-concurrent use on multiple cpus, or for use on a laptop and desktop (two machines). Like almost everyone else these days I have to work on multiple machines these days. Is a portable version available (that would be the perfect solution)? Thanks, Wm Shur

Maybe it is a fluke, but I installed the demo and each time I quit The Journal, Firefox would crash on start-up.

The last time it happened, I uninstalled The Journal and then FF would start with no issues.

I am honestly not sure if these are interrelated, but FF has never done this before to me and stopped as soon as

The Journal was uninstalled. The program looks great though and seems to offer a lot for those that use it.

I've been using version 4 for some time and I really like it.
David provides outstanding, personal support of his product.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a journal application.

Easy to use and the support can't be beat.

    M B,

That is very unusual behaviour. I have Firefox installed on my laptop here, and both Firefox and The Journal work without any issues.

I'll make a note and see what I can find. Thank you for the details.

I did a test just now, and it downloaded fine. Might have been some kind of temporary network traffic issue.

Can I use Journal with Unicode format / multilingual text?

Yes, The Journal supports Unicode entries.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Well, I tried to write down an ancient Greek text in Journal, after selecting the appropriate font, and it shows a question mark in place of a character with a breathing mark.

    Lisba,

If the font is a Unicode font, it should work.

If you don't mind, could send me a Word document with the text you tried to enter? Email me: support (at) davidrm.com

    Thanks.

    -David
