True Launch Bar

A Better Launch Bar

True Launch Bar

*** Due to the overwhelming response Tordex has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy! ***

We like the idea of the Windows Quick Launch bar, and even -- on rare occasions -- find ourselves using it. But we're always struck with the vauge, disconsolate feeling that it simply isn't reaching it's full potential.

True Launch Bar is a vastly-superior replacement for the standard Quick Launch bar. Don't worry -- every Quick Launch function is also in True Launch Bar, and they share the same shortcut folder. However, True Launch Bar allows us to combine our shortcuts into groups and display them in convenient popup menus. Right off the bat it saves us space on our desktop and makes it a snap to launch our favorite applications.

True Launch Bar is extremely configurable. We love the "auto-popup menus on mouse hover" option, and the "large icon" option makes working at high screen resolutions much more comfortable. Creating a new menu is as simple as right-clicking on True Launch Bar, and you can designate hotkeys to launch applications.

Best of all, True Launch Bar supports plugins like Mail Monitor, Weather Forecast, Media Control, System Process Monitor, Color Picker, Voice Recorder, Calculator, and dozens more!

But don't take our word for it. Give True Launch Bar a try today and watch how quickly you ask yourself how you ever lived without it.

Written by Roger Thomasson

Key Features:

  • True Launch Bar is fully compatible with the standard Windows Quick Launch toolbar. It uses the same folder for shortcuts, automatically reflects any changes, and can be docked into the taskbar.
  • Create menus in the True Launch bar panel and place shortcuts there. Save space on the taskbar and give it personalized functionality.
  • Completely supports Windows XP Visual Styles. You'll forget that it didn't come standard with Windows!
  • Create virtual folders that reside in a True Launch Bar menu. Right clicking provides a familiar Windows Explorer context menu.
  • True Launch Bar fully supports Drag & Drop technology. Simply drag shortcuts onto the toolbar or menu.
  • Skinnable. Download them or create your own.
  • Supports dozens of dynamic content plugins. Visit the plugins library to check them out.

Reviews & Testimonials:

  • “I started out just to keep my Quick Launch icons in order, and I ended up with a powerful tool. True Launch Bar is simply loaded with features from the ability to add folders, group shortcuts, and run plug-ins. You can customize the way it works to suit your needs and the wayyou work. It supports skins, large icons, drag and drop, XPvisual styles, and more.

True Launch Bar by Tordex is one of the most impressive programs I've looked at in 2006. Whether you're a student, a parent, or the CEO of a corporation, this is truly a Must Have Application! It can make you more efficient, more productive, and better organized. It's also my honor to award it the Tucows Editor's Choice Award for excellence. Give this product a try - I give it my highest recommendation!”- Dr. File Finder, www.tucows.com
  • “Small disk footprint, no detectable system drain, automatic setup, minimal learning curve, highly configurable, extremely stable, builds on what you already use, and has a low purchase cost. The bottom line is True Launch Bar is an indispensable add-on to Windows and adds the usability and functionality to the OS that should have been there in the first place. With just a few days worth of use, you'll wonder how you managed without it.”- Vance Hunt, www.dx21.com
  • “The end result is a taskbar that is extremely functional and built just like you like it. I use it on all computers I use regularly and feel lost without the functionality it provides when I am using someone else's computer. That is the mark of a great utility in my book.”- James Kendrick, jkontherun.blogs.com
  • “A typical computer user, when he becomes a bit «advanced» (which means, he uses applications beyond Word and Minesweeper), suffers a lot from the ineffective standard Windows environment (Desktop). Windows lacks Information on the system state, lacks Control over running processes, and lacks Tools in user’s hands. To perform, view or change Something under Windows, we would need to do a lot of useless clicking, which is just as annoying as it is useless. You will hardly believe me, but I do know something that successfully solves most of these problems. The something is called True Launch Bar.”- www.3d2f.com
  • “To grasp the real value of True Launch Bar, try working with it for some time. Then any system without it turns into a raging nightmare.”- Nick Harley, Canada
  • “I want to tell you guys, your app is a killer!! I love it. Something that my company (MS) forgot to include in XP :) Worth every penny!!! Keep up the good work!”- Hack Lover, Italy

Really happy with Windows 7 overall, but there are a few exceptions. One of them is Start menu All Programs. Once you get over a certain number of programs installed, going to All Programs is no fun. Thankfully, with True Launch Bar I rarely have to.

I use the TLB standalone module to store all my frequently-used applications and tools in an auto-hide sidebar. This lets me keep the Windows taskbar nice and clean with only a few programs. TLB can be customized to look and function just about any way you want.

Bought this program ages ago. Couldn't do without it now, loads of features and add-ons (all free) and free upgrades. Takes a bit of getting used to because there are so many features but once you've got the hang of it it's indispensible in my opinion.

I also own a license of this great tool and I doubt that I will ever be able to live and work without it.
It is highly customisable, which means that one can change its appearance at will, vary the size of the icons and the menues or maybe use a different skin, but also the toolbar itself can vary depending on various factors. Additionally one might download and install several add-ons which add lots of functionality to this toolbar.
I personally use TrueLaunchBar in the taskbar and not as a standalone module and thus I have all imporant data right in sight. I have an email-add-on which automatically checks for incoming mails (incl. spam filter), a wheather forecast, a todo-list for quick notes and several plugins to display system activities, e.g. read/write activity on my harddisk.
I have quick access to all my favourite folders and programmes and I am able to switch between several toolbars (and thus different shortcuts), even automatically whenever I launch a specific application.
    And that's just the beginning.
Try it, love it, get it. :-)

I do not know the value of the plugins you mention, but this is as superfluous as the original quick launch.

This is my way to get a quick launch feature without wasting space in the task bar AND without spending a penny
    1. Right-click on START
    2. choose OPEN
    3. create folder MyGroup

Now you can drop shortcuts to MyGroup an execute them via START
And yes you can create subgroups/subfolders

    Cheers
    Thomas
(works on WinXP and previous and I am pretty sure that it works on Win7 aswell - please report if not)

Sometimes I think that people get paid for writing good comments here :)

I use powerpro, it's free, feature rich and powerful.
    I recommend powerpro.

    @Peter Lievers

Powerpro and its web site has not been updated since Nov 2008. Personally, I choose not to use abandonware.

Bruce Switzer promissed a new release in autumn 2010. (I read about it in the Yahoo user groups)
It's not abandonware. This software is very good and doesn't need frequent updates.

It looks good in pictures but I couldn't get it to function properly.  I couldn't get a new menu grouping icon to display and always had to activate it through the Toolbars.  It ended up being as many clicks as using the Start menu.  When I uninstalled it searched through my entire system to remove pieces of itself (ouch!).

@Peter Lievers, I wish we got paid! Where do I pick up the check? LOL! No, we're just unpaid computer enthusiasts/geeks writing about our favorite software--or at least I can confirm for myself.

@Thomas Lattner, I think many Bits regulars discovered opening Windows Start menu in Explorer years ago. Nevertheless, it could be a useful tip for some. Other than being free, I wasn't impressed enough to use it as a permanent solution. If you find it adequate that's all that really matters. On the other hand, for those who are demanding when it comes to desktop appearance and function, $10 looks like a bargain. :)
