Daniel Walker There seems to be no way to get to your website - the part for these offerings (are you hiding them?).

There is no mention of a Registry Cleaner (spefically). Does this also function as a Registry Cleaner?

Daniel Walker I should have waited - if one posts 'screenshots' - make sure we can actually read them ... They are a -great- way to see something about the layout, functions, etc - but NOT if you cannot read them.

Niels Erik Karkov Hopefully you will clean up this mess before the offer expires:
1. Your program will only accept EURO - and too many of them
2. When I try to pay via paypal as usual the program will bill me for 22 EUROs - but I am only willing to pay 15 dollars

Jim Boland Hi Niels,

1. What country are you purchasing from? Euro is the default in certain countries where the local currency is unsupported
2. Make sure you keep your download protection unchecked when you pass the order through the Paypal method, otherwise the total will be higher. this could be why you are seeing 22 euros instead of 15.

You will find on the net a lot of folks who had problems with this software. (All "Speed-up" programs are problematic, they can help a tiny bit a few people, and the next person can lock or trash their registry. although their registry cleaner is a lot riskier. Try to find any actual forums that Uniblue maintains for users to discuss their experiences. None. Or any direct conversations with their coders on blogs or forums. None. Everything is through a bureaucracy, and a lot of the better software they bought from a good techie years back (the better stuff is largely discontinued for the scare-cash-cow of the registry cleaner) and now google-spam-ad it to death.

Uniblue is known for all sorts of 'affiliate' relationships that put out dubious ads -- especially of scareware -- to get to their registry cleaner especially .. and this product . Also misrepresenting reviews is common.

To find out more, simply scan at Uniblue integrity-oriented forums. Especially Web of Trust. Or forums like DonationCoder.
Various forums where the tech person is not receiving an affiliate percent -- read carefully. Caveat emptor.

This is a second recent disappointment from Bits Du Jour, from whom I buy my software when possible, now with some concerns about the direction.

Nico Westerdale Hi Steven. Uniblue is one of the larger software names that we've had on here, we're trying to showcase independent and brandname software equally, and also get the best deals that we can. We believe their products are strong and deserve to be on our roster, sorry if you disagree!

Steven Avery Nico, do you have any special ad or affiliate arrangements with Uniblue ? Beyond the google ads that everyone gets.

WebofTrust I mentioned a few techies who found themselves in the bind of trying to justify the software, even against a flood of complaints, who had those arrangements.

Roger Thomasson Steven, there are no "special ad or affiliate arrangements" with Uniblue :-) We take a standard commission from each sale, just like every other vendor partnership we've ever brokered on Bits du Jour.

The bottom line is that we offer somewhere like 500 - 600 deals a year, and each of those is gone in a puff of smoke after 24 hours. Since we never quite know how our customers will react to a particular deal, we believe that it's in everybody's best interest to try as many different brands and genres of software as possible.

Rest assured -- if our customers hate a particular title we'll know it, and likely won't promote it ever again.

As far as your concerns over the direction of Bits, I invite you to look to the past. My rough guesstimate based on a scan of the last 6 months of BDJ offerings is that less than 1 out of 10 is a "Big Boy" or heavily-marketed brand (obviously those terms are debatable). That's about the same as it's always been on Bits and we're planning on keeping it that way :-)
