I like the idea, but having used the trial version, I think it lacks accuracy with some of the supposed updates. For example, I have a freeware weather program called Cumulus, Update Star informed me there was a newer version so I thought OK I'll download it. Luckily I read the description of Cumulus as described by Update Star, otherwise I would have downloaded a warehouse management program!

Also, some of the version information is inaccurate. I also found the constant redirecting to their website irritating.

It's a good idea, but it needs a bit more work before I'd think about buying it.

And pay for the privilege? There are many free products that work under the same principle and they do a great job. What exactly does an $80 list price provide that the free "user maintained" versions cannot.

Unless "UpdateStar Premium Edition" provides some significant improvement over how all the the free competition operates, it is hard to justify considering this seriously.

Finally - considering that the "purchase" is little more than a 12 month rental - is only a further slap in the face.
