Eddie Tex Martin, "Academic" versions carry all the same functionality as the equivalent product without the "Academic" title. Thus, this is identical to VMWare Workstation 8.

It's called Academic so people know that the discount is for students.

Joseph Hyde The download should apply to version 8 not 7. I am interested in the capabilities of 8 not 7! Running 7 will not tell me if 8 will run a win 98 game or app that I am interested in or even a win 3.11 app! It does no good to offer 7 when I need to see what 8 does!

charlie arehart It's a shame everyone who's trying to answer the questions about "do we need to be a student, faculty, etc" is being so vague. I dug around and found this terms agreement page that clarifies:

(As for how I found it, I saw the offer of a tab for "policy" on the top right of this page here on BDJ, next to the tab for "features" for this current deal, and I just kept following links from there to find the above. Took work, yes. Hope it's helpful to some readers.)
