Overtkill Re-posted as version 11 has just been released...

IMHO, this is the _MUST_HAVE_ Windows Explorer replacement. It does everything Exploder does, plus thousands of things that Explorer does not. Mufti-pane file management, Image and media viewing, archive extraction (though I also use WinRAR), extreme customization, and it can replace Windows Explorer completely (Pressing the Windows Start key + E for example will load Directory Opus if so configured at install).

Since I first tried this software years ago, I was hooked for life. And this is coming from a picky and very seasoned 25+ year Systems Administrator. The power and customization of this tool had me impressed on day 1. I also love a good multitasker, meaning a program that serves more than 1 purpose in this case as mentioned above. I started with the competition due to the regular price of DO being somewhat expensive. After trying DO, I never looked back and it has been my File management utility ever since. You get what you pay for here as well.

They offer a generous 60 day free trial on their website. I wholeheartedly recommend it to my clients, friends, and family, who handle a lot of data (file management), or just wish Explorer could do more. Also note, It does not uninstall or remove Explorer in any way, but installs itself as any other application. The only difference is that it can take over WE's functions in any version of Windows. Definitely worth a try

The nice folks at Bits DuJour should see if they can get the guys at GPSoft to feature this here again, as version 11 just released very recently.

Taken from the GPSoft Website's About Directory Opus Page:

Welcome to Directory Opus, the file manager for Windows!
Directory Opus is designed with four goals in mind:

Ease of use: As far as possible, Opus works just like Explorer does. You don't have to learn any complicated scripting or non-standard mouse techniques to use Opus. If you've ever used Explorer to copy a file, you already know exactly how to do it in Opus as well.

Configuration: We believe in the user's right to choose how their computer operates. You'll find that almost every aspect of Opus can be changed - from the buttons on the toolbar to the color used to draw the background of a compressed file.

Efficiency: Opus is designed to be as efficient as possible. The entire program makes use of multi-threading to ensure that you should never have to wait for one operation to complete before beginning another.

Compatibility: As an Explorer Replacement it's important that Opus appears (to the system) just like Explorer does. Within the limits set by Microsoft, Opus achieves this and most software written with only Explorer in mind will still work fine with Opus installed.

There are far too many features to list them all here, but to name a few:

- Single or dual file displays, with single or dual trees, make navigating and manipulating files a breeze

- Folder tabs let you keep multiple folders open and switch quickly between them

- Unique Explorer Replacement mode provides a full replacement for Windows Explorer

- Integrated viewer pane lets you preview many common image and document file formats

- View and edit file metadata (EXIF, MP3, PDF, etc)

- Sorting, grouping, filtering and searching has never been easier

- Color code or rate your files and folders to make them easier to find

- Batch renaming including the option for a fully scripted rename using metadata

- Support for FTP, Zip, 7-Zip, RAR and many other archive formats

- Access content on portable devices like phones, tablets and cameras

- Built-in tools including synchronize, duplicate file finder, image converter and uploader and more

- Print or export folder listings, copy file listings to the clipboard, calculate folder sizes

- Queue multiple file copies for improved performance
Support for CD/DVD burning

- Support for the latest Windows features including jumplists and indexed search

- Fully configurable user interface - toolbars, keyboard hotkeys and much more can be tailored to suit your needs

- Full scripting interface supports VBScript, JScript or any installed Active Scripting language

- Efficient, multi-threaded, modern design

- Supports Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (and Server versions) in both 32 and 64 bit versions

There are many more features available in Directory Opus. Why not download a free evaluation copy and see for yourself?

Overtkill Me too. I hope they submit DO to GPSoft soon. I contacted GPSoft last week telling them of our intent to get their software on here again. :)

Mappi75 One thing i would like to add:

I bought a five license of DO10 FTP enabled and two usb enabled.

As a user of DO you cant profit from this promo,
You have to pay the normal upgrade price.

When you upgrade your old version the DO website use a own coupon code for a reduced price.

That mean: You Never will get a upgrade promo coupon code.

The next thing is:
I bought a 5 licences but i dont need them all,
If i want to upgrade to a two PC license the other 3 PCs will expire forever!

Because of that i upgraded my 5 PCs DO10 to 5 PCs DO11.
I dont want to lose my already paid licences including 5x FTP addon.

So i have to paid a high upgrade price.

My advice: think about this!

How much licences did you really need?

Maybe buying 2x2pcs license would be a better choice,
so you can later upgrade only - one - two PCs license.

Hope my post will help you!

Mappi75 BTW: Greg wrote me at the experience of version 11,
That they dont have actual plans for a promo run because its a brand new version.
Mar 30 2014 at 7:27pm
Overtkill What Prince Yann said ^^

Further, most of us know the quantity they want to buy at the before making such a purchase.

Also, I can understand their wanting to make a few bucks at the beginning of a new release. They have a lot of development cash to recoup for the past few years of work on the new version. I've worked in software development for a major corporation in the past. Prices are generally set high at first, then after a month or two, the deals usually appear. This was the case for version 9 and 10. This also gives them some time to fix some issues that their beta testing didn't see.

Raual Johnson Once you buy your DO 11 upgrade license, it disables your DO 10 license as soon as you install the DO 11 certificate.
Apr 20 2014 at 8:40am
Ioannis Lianakis A 30% discount will be a fair deal!
May 25 2014 at 3:14am
Doug Myers A 50% discount would be a better deal. A current user upgrades at 30%, so to buy new at 30% is no deal. Make it 50% (or more) and more people (new and existing) may give version 11 a try.

Sébastien User Thx for your message Dr Faust !
I took it :-)
Dec 4 2014 at 12:51am
singularity I would like to have this offer.
Jan 2 2015 at 4:38pm
Germain Lavoie Definitely like to have this program. Missed out (not knowing it was on sale for CyberMonday). Failed to buy it the previous time before. This time for sure. I check every day for Bits Du Jour having this promotion.
Please !!! Especially for the new year 2015.
Jan 8 2015 at 8:55am
clay User My trial has ended but I really want the pro version of Dopus now I've tried it. How do we make this happen? new to this site so not familiar with how it works
Feb 1 2015 at 1:39pm
Joan User They're having a sale on Opus 11 now. Otherwise, this coupon always works: LN111117DC
Feb 1 2015 at 1:53pm
Germain Lavoie Joan User - where on sale - BitsDuJour or GP Software? How much for single version?
Feb 1 2015 at 2:34pm
clay User thanks for the reply joan user, I tried that code earlier when searching for voucher codes, that gets you 10% off but I saw some small bulk purchasing options that got you 50% off.

I thought with a site like this, when enough people show interest, the site buys in bulk and then we all get emailed for a discount between that 50% and the normal price. That's really what I was hoping for, something better than 10%

Can't find dopus on sale here on this site and on the main site its still $80 for a single pro licence.

Would appreciate a link if I'm being dumb and just missing the sale.
Feb 1 2015 at 4:44pm
singularity @clay user, Bits Du Jour doesnt work like that. This is a site where software vendors post discount offers. BDJ doesnt buy any licenses and sell for discount. And Directory Opus (GP Software) offers discount very rarely. They had offered a 40$ discount last CyberMonday. Maybe they will offer before next CyberMonday. Activity here might catch the interest of Dopus to consider an offer.
Feb 1 2015 at 4:49pm
singularity @clay user, There is no ongoing sale foe Directory Opus at BDJ at the moment, You can see the ongoing sales at this link
Feb 1 2015 at 4:52pm
clay User ah, gotcha dtouch, that's a shame then, with so many people showing interest and gpsoftware having a negotiable discount on bulk buying, I'd be up for getting into a group buy.

Also damn shame it's so expensive, great price really if you need all that it does but I just wanted the thumbnail view functionality dopus has, it's the prettiest my folders have ever been hehe
Feb 1 2015 at 4:54pm
singularity @clay user Yes it is expensive. But a purchased license runs for a version (current one is 11) and it normally runs for 3 years or so till the next version, with all updates. And considering the features of Dopus, it is still worth every penny.
Feb 1 2015 at 4:58pm
Tyrea User best windows file management alternative i've tested. all the functionality you need and then soe for those who work a lot with modifying file meta data, etc.
Jul 16 2015 at 6:16pm
Tracy User I like this software! But, I think there should be a better deal on Upgrades. This is the best file manager I've seen for Windows. I have been involved in software management and sales and believe me they or he is making Plenty of cash!
Jul 20 2015 at 10:19am
Jeffrey User windows explorer is a limited option program. I need more flexibility in the management of my files and folders. DO is just flatout better.
Sep 4 2015 at 8:33pm
Tracy User I have used DO for several years now, and I know it is much more powerful than WE. WE has too many limitations. I have used version 10 since it was almost new and I would not like to be without it. The only reason I haven't gone to version 11 is the fact that you loose version 10 license when you upgrade. I might want to use version 11 on one computer and version 10 on another so I don't upgrade. Also, I really don't see many big improvements between the 2 versions. You are allowed to use your single licensed DO on YOUR Personal desktop and your personal laptop only. This is an excellent file handler but I would rather have the developer do the discounts on his web site. I believe he could certainly afford a better upgrade deal or a new license deal for current users. I have been involved in software management and sales.... Take my word for it... he or they are making Plenty of Cash and could afford to do better price wise and on updates.
Sep 5 2015 at 3:48pm
Peder Carnock Come on..... give us a good deal for this excellent software !!
Oct 23 2015 at 11:25am
Edwin User ccccc
Nov 29 2015 at 9:27am
Edwin User Installed pro version on my two desktop computers -- the trial for 60 days. Hopefully the 129 AUD will be discounted more than 10-11 percent between now and my expiration date. Have use PowerDesk for many tears and it was good enough -- compared to Windows Explorer, but the features of OPUS 11 make it an order of magnitude more flexible for power users. Have not been able to get Powerdesk to run under Windows 10 last several builds -- 10565, 10586 (current).
Nov 29 2015 at 9:34am
Germain Lavoie Hopefully a sale will happen on Cyber Monday. I believe last sale was then and missed out on it. Waited for a year and can only hope.
Nov 29 2015 at 9:40am
Peder Carnock I'm also hoping for cybermonday :-)

But isit not allready monday in Australia ?
Nov 29 2015 at 9:48am
Edwin User I think we are waiting for a "non-event"
Nov 30 2015 at 8:12am
Overtkill I tend to agree. Seems like the folks at GPSoft aren't interested in giving loyal customers a real deal. I own several licenses already, but I would happily give a few decently discounted keys to friends and family.
Nov 30 2015 at 9:08am
Mappi75 50% off on their website!

Good hunting!
Dec 16 2015 at 11:55pm

Dec 16 2015 at 11:58pm
Tracy User Great Software....
I just purchased the version 11 Pro on the GP website. It's the Holiday deal. So, Now I have version 10 Pro to use on my laptop and I also have a full license for version 11 Pro for to use on my desktop.
Half price is good!
Dec 17 2015 at 1:10am
Germain Lavoie Thanks for the heads up, bought Opus just in case offer disappears suddenly. Got the 2 PC with laptop for equivalent in US dollars exchange currency at $46.00! That's a good deal!
Good thing I kept BitsDuJour contacts open to follow letting me know about the sale.
Dec 17 2015 at 9:49am
Edwin User Just bought a 2 computer license at the 50 percent discount. Great price. Was going to use a 11 percent code, but glad I did not. Have been tracking the price on the web page since I installed the 60 day trial a month ago, but it was always 129 AUD. Do not think it ever changes -- the secret is in the discount code. Installed the certificate on both my computers without problem -- good bye PowerDesk - forever.
Dec 17 2015 at 10:12am
Edwin User Just found out 11.17 is now available.
Dec 17 2015 at 10:28am
Michael User excited about the new release
Mar 21 2016 at 9:50am
Nigel Blumenthal Actually, the next promotion we need is for Directory Opus 12. It's been out a few months, it's time for a discounted offer for new or upgraded software!
Nov 9 2016 at 5:39pm
Doug Myers Directory Opus 12 has been out for over 1 year. There has not been any discount programs offered on it. Not here, not out in the wild. They didn't even do anything at Christmas. I guess you can have too many sales. :(
Feb 19 2017 at 8:14am
singularity @Doug Myers follow them in twitter. They run discounts for blackfriday and cybermonday. There was a 40% off last year.
Feb 19 2017 at 8:45am
