Kenneth Floyd I am unfamiliar with the term "2 Cores" when it comes to software.
What in fact does it mean?
Sep 4 2014 at 4:27am Copy Link
Peter Dr I wonder why we cannot connect to the website...?
Sep 4 2014 at 6:03am Copy Link
ABBYY Hi Peter - which website are you having trouble connecting to?
ABBYY - Sep 4 2014 at 6:51am Copy Link
Mappi75 Its my question too,
what does it mean "2 cores" ?
Sep 4 2014 at 7:04am Copy Link
Cary Adams @Kenneth Floyd... "2 cores" means that this edition, unlike the Pro edition, is capable of using 2 CPU cores of a multi-core processor simultaneously. This enables significantly reduced processing time, particularly helpful for converting large documents or batches of documents.
Sep 4 2014 at 7:05am Copy Link
Kenneth Floyd I understand now that it pertains to hardware.
Sep 4 2014 at 7:05am Copy Link
nikrusty Thanks Cary for explaining this. I wonder why they didn't just make it Multi-core capable instead of just 2 core capable. Rather Silly!

Ela S. Is ABBYY Screenshot Reader included in this program version?

Just for those who don't know this best ever screen shot program with excellent OCR technology, the description can be find here:

Just make a screenshot of every text picture (locked PDF, text passage, text image, locked website etc), and this tiny program translate it into readable text, regardless of the language.
Sep 4 2014 at 8:37am Copy Link
HJ B 1. Is there anywhere a comparison of the reliability of ABBY OCR as compared to Acrobat PRO and Omnipage Ultimate?

2. I do not see here the opportunity to road test the product. The ABBY web site permits one to apply for a test version. I am reluctant to grab a one-day deal, if there is no opportunity to test it.
Sep 4 2014 at 9:09am Copy Link
Mappi75 I thought Finereader Pro is one app that using ALL Cores,
i think there was on tomshardware every time cpu benches with the program ?

Or does ths mean you have a mobo with two cpu's ?
Like a Xeon system ?

ABBYY FineReader 12 Corporate offers two versions: dual core or quad core. This promotion focuses on the dual core version.

ABBYY provides 30-day trials of all of its products, which can be downloaded from the website.

Comparisons of FineReader 12 against Adobe Acrobat and Nuance Omni Page have been conducted by various third parties. Buyers Laboratories has done the most recent.
ABBYY - Sep 4 2014 at 9:18am Copy Link
HJ B @nikrusty - it might be silly or it might be very smart. Perhaps it is a prudent allocation of resource so as to avoid interference with the OS and other applications.

Peter Dr Hi ABBY: The link in BdJ didn't work earlier, but now it is fine. Thanks.
Sep 4 2014 at 10:10am Copy Link
disenchanted I have and use Abbyy fine reader pro and prefer it over Nuance, Read-iris and a few others I have tried.
I have a few questions:

1. I would like to know how this 2 core compares in speed to the Abbyy finereader Pro version?

2. How much of the 2 core program actually utilizes 2 cores?
and would an end user see a huge performance increase of say, 150% or 200% or ??? when comparing it to the Pro version?

3. Does this program utilize any of the GPU as well as the CPU?
a. If so, what type of mid to high range video card would be needed?

It sounds like a great offer but the best I have for a PC is just an i7-4770k
But it sounds like I'd need a motherboard with two i7 CPUs to really get the most out of this software app.
Sep 4 2014 at 8:09pm Copy Link
Adam P I'd also prefer the professional version, even 40% off would be nice.
Sep 4 2014 at 8:52pm Copy Link

You said: "ABBYY provides 30-day trials of all of its products, which can be downloaded from the website. "

I went to the website 12 hours ago, and all I could find was two different places where I could request a trial copy. I made the request, and then made it again an hour later. In each instance, the site confirmed receipt of my request and said a download link would be sent to me. As of this moment I have not had a reply with a download link,

I suspect that this product would be what would meet my needs; however, I will not purchase a product that I cannot test, unless the terms of purchase give a right of return.

ABBYY @disenchanted

Thank you for using our products. I tried to provide answers to your questions:

1. Both FineReader Professional and Corporate support multi-core processors. It means that FineReader effectively uses processor resources to speed up recognition process.
2-core limitation is related only to batch conversion mode included to Corporate version in separate application named Hot Folder. So you won't see the difference in Pro and Corporate versions performance.

2. FineReader (both Professional and Corporate versions) provides multi-processes scalable architecture that effectively uses almost all cores of your n-core processor.
Batch conversion is limited to use only 2-cores.

3. No, FineReader uses only CPU, not GPU.

Rajeev Dugar @ABBYY iAm. You have replied to @B Josephs that the upgrade is available only for upgrades from older version of Corporate. However, on your website mentions that "Upgrade is available for the registered users of FineReader Professional, Corporate 11, 12, Sprint, PDF Transformer+, PDF Transformer 3.0, FineReader 14 Standard.

Please confirm / clarify.

This will open a PDF showing the the features of the Standard and the Corporate.

ABBYY Hello Joe M! Thank you for using our products!

Unfortunately you can't get an Upgrade with Fine reader 10. You need to have at least Finer Reader 12 version of the product in order to do so.

Upgrade eligibility: Registered users of FineReader 14 Standard, Corporate or Enterprise, FineReader 12 Professional or Corporate, FineReader Sprint 12 and PDF Transformer+ are eligible to purchase at an Upgrade price. Please make sure that you have a valid serial number of the product eligible for upgrade, you will be asked to provide it during installation.

Paul Can anything be said on the license? Is it possible with a standard license to install FInereader on a desktop and a laptop?
Oct 17 2019 at 6:26am Copy Link
ABBYY Hello Tom !

If the type of Your License is “Single user license” / “Standalone” and You are a
natural person, You may install and use the Fine Reader 15 on one desktop
Computer and on one portable Computer (laptop or other portable device on
which the Fine Reader 15 can be installed and used according to its system
requirements) owned by You. You may not use the Fine Reader 15 on both
Computers simultaneously. At any given time, You may either use the
Fine Reader 15 directly on a Computer on which it is installed or access the
Fine Reader 15 remotely via remote access from only one Computer.

In other words - yes you can use it but not simultaneously. You can also learn more about terms here:

SoftCollector Unfortunately, there seems to be little difference between version 14, which I bought a few months back, and the new version 15. I have installed a trial and used it for a few days and I did not see any difference in function or look. My feeling was that version 15 is an incremental update of version 14 (rather than a substantial upgrade), and ABBYY just decided to sell it as a different version number and make some profit. I hope the ABBYY representative can persuade me otherwise and change my mind on this.
Oct 18 2019 at 1:47am Copy Link
ABBYY Hello @SoftCollector !

Thank you for using our products! First of all you should know that we will continue to support Fine Reader 14 so you don't have to change it for a new version in order to keep getting updates. Of course it won't get the same features as Fine Reader 15 has. Few words about it:

The main changes in Fine Reader 15 were made in terms of work with PDF files. Mostly about editing, formatting and scanning. Also Fine Reader 15 had a major update in OCR technology. New options have been added to customize Fine Reader settings during deployment using Group Policy Objects.

Of course this is not all. Full list of changes you can see here:

OR you can reach our support team in order to get more detailed answers for your questions.

Joe M I just purchased a license for the Standard 15 version. I have a trial version of the Corporate 15 on my computer now. Do I need to uninstall it or will it automatically revert to the Standard version when I activate it with new license key?
Oct 18 2019 at 8:02am Copy Link
ABBYY Hello Joe M.

All you need to do is to delete trial license and activate it with the new license key.
Usually it should be enough. You don't need to uninstall files.

But if you'll face some issues during activation please contact our support - they will help you right away.
ABBYY - Oct 18 2019 at 8:13am Copy Link
Joe M Thanks. I entered my license number, then registered the software. I then closed the program. When it was restarted it is now showing the Standard version.

Emil Kucera Hello,
I have been a happy user since many versions ago. What would be the best reasons to upgrade from ver. 14 to 15 (standard to standard) ? The website does not quite show the differences.
Edit 2020-02-11 18:40 :
I found the reference to changes in the older conversations. It looks like the major advantage of the new version is only available in Corporate, pity. I will still upgrade, though, if I can manage to get the discounted price; a few days ago that did not work for me. Will return and report.
Edit 2020-02-11 19:57 Purchase and installation proceeded without a hitch. Thanks!

BitsDuJour Admin - Feb 13 2020 at 12:11am Copy Link
ABBYY Hello @Joe M.

If you purchased Standard version of a product as an individual (not a company) you can use it for two devices on condition that one of these devices is a laptop. But there might be other conditions like your Country, Serial number of a product etc. It would be better for you to contact our support team and clarify these questions. They might also connect you with your sales team in order to get a personal offer if needed.

About the upgrade version - this would work only on a condition you have a separate version of Fine Reader 14 or lower.

Sep 24 2020 at 12:36pm Copy Link
ABBYY Dear Gary,
The key differences between the Standard & Corporate Edition of FineReader PDF are the "comparison" and "hot folder" features. These, only available in the Corporate Edition, allow you to compare documents and automate digitization and conversion routines.
A full feature overview can be found here:
