PlayfullyEvil Upon attempting to purchase this deal, I noticed a price discrepancy in the purchase price -- according to the BitsDuJour-specific page (http://www.drivepop.com/bitsdujour/), the cost is $49.99 USD; however, in the "Step 3: Product Configuration" page, the pricing is stated as follows: "Billing Cycle: $79.99 USD One Time". This value carries over to each successive; steps "Step 4: Order Confirmation" and finally "Step 5: Checkout".

Is this supposed to be $49.99 USD or $79.99 USD?

A pricing confirmation would be greatly appreciated before proceeding with purchasing this product.

Thank-you in advance for your assistance.

Mark Harper Just requested a refund as this software does not perform backups rather it is a file archiver storing file on the cloud. It cannot backup Windows and will not backup my NAS/external drives.

Pity as it sounded a good offer. With hindsight I should have trialled it first.

Constantin Florea @PlayfullyEvil PlayfullyEvil - Did you select "2 Computers Total + $30.00 USD" or only the first "1 Computer (Included)" option?

PlayfullyEvil @Constantin Florea: Clicking on the "SIGN UP NOW" link (https://www.drivepop.com/...=22&aff=21) directs me to the "Step 3: Product Configuration" page which I assumed would be the "1 PC or MAC Computer Usage" option. Proceeding to that link, there is no option for an addition PC (which I would like to utilize); however, there is a "NAS Drive Backup - Add support for backing up a NAS device. ($79.99 USD Annually)" option available.

Constantin Florea @PlayfullyEvil PlayfullyEvil - Could you please clear your browser cache and browse to this Buy Now link:
http://www.drivepop.com/bitsdujour/

Then press on the "Get Drivepop Cloud - Lifetime License" button. The underlying link for that button is:
https://www.drivepop.com/...=66&aff=21
(in the link you've posted the pid=22 is incorrect, it should be pid=66)

Clearing your browser cache will ensure that the button has the correct underlying link.

Kick65 Like Mark I want to backup my entire system (drive image). I use Acronis True Image and just upgraded to the 2014 version. It does cloud backups but I don't know if it works with this or it has to be to Acronis' cloud?

Glynne Powell Bob J - It is licensed per computer and their terms state the license can be switched to another computer upon request.

Can't backup Windows emails? That's the main thing I need to backup,

Windows

“C:\Windows” folder
“C:\Program Files” or “C:\Program Files (x86)”
“C:\Users” or “C:\Documents and Settings” (you can select folders within the User accounts such as My Documents, My Videos, My Pictures, My Music, Favourites etc)
“C:\Users\{username}\AppData”
System settings
System files
“C:\Users\{username}\Ntuser.dat”
Live databases (exchange, SQL, SAGE, etc) – any database that is constantly in use
Your entire hard drive

"You must at all times run the Livedrive software on any computer that is being backed up and you must ensure this computer connects to the Internet at least once every 30 days. DrivePop will remove backups for computers that have not connected to the service for 30 days."

Not good if your computer is stolen, lost, or broken for weeks, or you get injured, sick or in the hospital for weeks-months. Why not wait at least a year to remove backups?

Adrian Williams Many opinions of this backup method are expressing caution - rightly so. Backup methodology shouldn’t be taken lightly. All I can say is I've been using this system for about a year now (a previous BDJ promotion) and have found it very reliable. OK, there are alternatives but you must bear in mind drive pop is a backup service that only retains files for 30 days. If you lose your laptop or it breaks - you still have 30 days to recover your stuff, plenty of time in my opinion. You also have the ability to download files to another PC or mobile device. Encrypt the files to a folder on your PC/Mac and let drive pop (livedrive in actual fact) back them up. It won't replace an external hard drive for your own personal peace of mind but what it does give you is a safety net in case anything goes wrong between your own backups. You can configure it to backup in real time or on a timed basis. An added feature is versioning, it keeps more than 1 version of the file so if you've just deleted lots of stuff in a word doc or spreadsheet file, you can recover a previous version of it.
Downloading files is quite fast and uploading will take time initially if you've lots of data but just leave your PC on for a few days and the backup will take place as fast as the connection and servers permit.

Finally, support is quick and good through drive pop. So you should be up and running quickly if you hit a snag. I've got drive pop installed on several PCs and a couple of Macs and, for what it offers, the price is great value.

Michael R. I have just downloaded the trial. When starting it, there is a message, that I have only download functionality and can not share my data with friends, ... But I can buy a 'briefcase' functionality with which I can do this too. Is this briefcase functionality in today's offer included or has it to be bought separetly (and what are the costs (today)?)

I made a little test with a single-directory and a file I created within that. It was backuped by LiveDrive - the included software for backup/restore-functionality - but the backup-time displayed was incorrect (perhaps another time-zone)? Can this be changed, because it is a little irritatiing?

My main concern with these cloud-storage-offers is the security. Your product offers an encryption, but it seems (1) your program and your company knows the encryption password, which seems to be the same as the login password (please correct me, but the login-password is the only password I had to enter at all), so I suppose it will be sent over the internet to your server. So are you able to decrypt all the files too? So perhaps it would make sense, to encrypt the files first, before storing them into a directory, where they will be backuped to the cloud... But this would be quite uncomfortable. Perhaps you would allow in a next version to embed somehow the usage of an external tool (EXE or BATCH-file which would encrypt all data before sending and decrypt it before receiving?) or a similar mechanism.

Did I remember right, that the data had to be refreshed after a certain time, or they will be deleted from your server?

bob jones Ok guys, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I was having extremely slow upload speeds that never went above 130 Kbps. I wanted to upload one of my external hard drives that was over 1 TB of data. After 6 hours I had uploaded approximately 1.4 GB of data. As you can see it would take weeks to upload my data at this speed. I contacted drivepop and wanted to know why my upload speed was so slow because my internet upload speed is 2.0 Mbps. He stated that to get your real upload speed you need to go to speedtest.net connect to a server in the UK and run the test. Whatever the upload speed was you divide that number by 8, and that is your upload speed for this service. Wish I would have known this before I purchased their service. Thought you all should know.

Joe Smart The 150.00 version on merchant web site includes briefcase which renews at 59.99 per year. Is there an additional subscription price to use this software beyond the 49.99 initial cost?

bob jones Joe Smart,

You pay the initial 49.99 a year and there is a service fee of 5.00 dollars a year after that.

BurnWorld @bob jones it's important to understand true upload/download speeds. See this post:
http://www.broadbandexper...et-speeds/

" To convert Kilobytes per second to Megabits per second, multiply by 8 and then divide by 1024. So 2433 KBps is 19.0078125 Mbps, so just round it to 19 Mbps.

If your browser or other transfer program gives you MBps, Megabytes per second, just multiply by 8.

ISP’s measure their speed in Megabits per second or Mbps. Now you will need to convert your measurements to compare against what your ISP is advertising. Also read your fine print in the contract and see what the CIR is. That (Committed Information Rate) is the speed they really guarantee."

Ron User It is a scam. Stay away as they will change the terms of service and hold your data hostage.
