Ok folks, here's the deal. East-Tec Eraser 2011 is technically 'last year's model'. Today we're offering it to you free, no strings attached, along with the option to upgrade to East-Tec Eraser 2012 for a dramatically reduced $18.95. Win-win situation if you ask us!

Yes, emptying the Windows recycle bin creates a satisfying crumple sound, but does it really, truly wipe every trace of those deleted files from existence?

Without going into detail about defragmentation, caches, and temporary internet files, the answer is no!

East-Tec Eraser 2011 exceeds U.S. Department of Defense standards for the permanent erasure of digital information, including your internet history, visited webpages, pictures, unwanted cookies, chatroom conversations, confidential documents, and almost anything else!

Today's East-Tec Eraser 2011 offer includes a powerful Entire Drive Module that makes it simple to erase entire disk drives, top-to-bottom. Just connect an external HD to your computer and if it can be seen from My Computer, East-Tec Eraser 2011 can erase it!

To receive your free code, select the option labeled "East-Tec Eraser 2011" and enter your name and email address on the following page. After that you'll receive an email containing a link that will allow you to obtain your license key.

This promotion includes the following:
East-Tec Eraser 2011 - 100% Off ($0)
Upgrade to East-Tec Eraser 2012 ($49.95)

Brian H Hi- I am very interested in this product! I don't see anything listed about EULA- can I have copy on desktop and laptop (as long as I don't use at same time)? Is it "hardware footprint activation" (which can cause problems when upgrading computer components ... Also- regarding the program itself, can I choose what it does and does not automatically erase/clean from my browser? For example, if I WANT my autocomplete and browsing history saved, but perhaps want other things automatically cleaned/erased, does the program allow me to specify this in its settings? Also, if I want to donate old computer or laptop, can I use this program to completely wipe out the hard drive first (for my security)? Thanks! -Brian

James Scott What is the difference between the 2011 and 2012 versions?

Bob Horton I actually own an old version of this SW, circa 2000 or so; it was excellent for its time. I am interested in updating, but I can't find anything that tells me the differences between the 2011 version version and the 2012 version. Can anyone help?

Marian Postma Well, I have my license key but I can't find a download link for the 2011 version anywhere.

Brian W Took me a while to find the download button as well! Poor layout.
The download link should also have been included in the registration email & install page from East-Tec.

Michael K I too have absolutely no idea how to download the 2011 version.

Until the vendor joins this conversation and tell us what the differences are between the 2011 and 2012 versions etc, could you Brain please tell us where you found the 2011 download button

Jan 22 2012 at 6:07am Copy Link
Constantin Florea @Michael When the Download button is pressed (under the Get It For Free button) there is a pop-up window showing up which contains the trial download links for both the 2011 and 2012 versions.

Michael K Thanks Constantin

I'd never have seen that button although it's clear now you've pointed it out.

Now what we need to know is the difference between the 2011 and 2012 versions.... how about waking the developer by calling their cell phone ...ha..ha

Constantin Florea Regarding the differences between the 2011 and 2012 versions, please notice the text description below:

The latest version (2012) comes with updated sensitive areas: Adobe Flash Player 11, DownThemAll! 2, Winzip 16, Irfanview 4.3, Camfrog Video Chat 6.1, Internet download manager 6, Mozilla firefox 8, AOL Desktop 9.6, Google Chrome 16 beta, Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, Mozilla Firefox 9.0 beta + new and faster Risk Monitor: this feature is now integrated in the main program where you can see and fix all the risks much easier than ever. In the 2011 edition it was a separated module, running in the background, consuming memory.

Mark K Clicking the "Get It For Free" button only leads to a link to register. The company then sends a confirmation link which leads to a page where you can get your free registration key for the 2011 version. Still no idea how to download the 2011 version. Either I'm missing something very obvious or this offer for the old version is being made overly difficult to get.
Jan 22 2012 at 9:14am Copy Link
Constantin Florea @Mark K Near the big green "Get It For Free" button there is a red arrow which points to the Download button. Pressing the Download button will show a window containing the two trial download links for the 2011 and 2012 versions of East-Tec Eraser

Michael K @ Mark and others:

To download Eraser 2011, scroll up THIS page until you can see the "Get it For Free" link in the standard Bits blue box. Now look slightly to the RIGHT and you will see an arrow pointing down to the word "Download" - That is the Download link for both version 2011 and version 2012. THE DOWNLOAD LINK IS ON THIS PAGE - THE PAGE YOU ARE ON NOW.

Hope my instructions are clear enough.

Bjondc How do you get a second license for a second computer??

I've sent a message through the vendor website support page.

I HATE it when companies won't let you use your email address for multiple computers -- if they restrict a license (free or paid) to one computer they ought to make provisions for multiple-computer owners who don't want multiple email addresses (& more exposure to spam.)
Jan 22 2012 at 10:23am Copy Link
Roger Thomasson It's odd -- the download link has been in the same place for over a year and these are literally the first complaints we've ever had about it's visibility.

Any theories?
BitsDuJour Admin - Jan 22 2012 at 10:42am Copy Link
Michael K Yes Roger, I may be mistaken but i don't recall ever actually downloading any Bits promoted software from Bits itself.

I only recall getting downloads either from a link in an e-mail received after purchase or from the developer's website.

Jan 22 2012 at 10:50am Copy Link
Roger Thomasson Interesting Michael -- so does this mean that in most cases you purchase without trialing the software?
BitsDuJour Admin - Jan 22 2012 at 10:53am Copy Link
Michael K Roger, I do trial the software quite a lot but I click on the website link on the promotion page and then when I've read the spec on the developer's website, I download the trial from there.

I was unaware of being able to download trials directly from the Bits promotion page.

Even though i am now aware that I can do that, I will likely continue to look at the developer's website as they often give more detail than you have room for here.

In all this time, I have never noticed the :"Download" button on the Bit's promotional page. No wonder I can never find anything in our fridge and my wife is constantly shouting at me.... " look behind the butter!! " ;-)

We live and learn.

Roger Thomasson Haha, well, excellent feedback either way!

These things are good to know :)
BitsDuJour Admin - Jan 22 2012 at 11:36am Copy Link
_*_ This sure feels a bit like a bait-and-switch offer.

I click on the 2011 link
I give my name and email
I receive a key
I download using the Download link from Bits on this current Free offer.
I install the program
I enter my name and registratin key

The program then tells me I cannot run it as it is not valid for this version.
I clik the Revert to previous version button to download the old version (which I believe I did from the Bits page).

It takes me to a website trying to sell me the "new" version with no link to redownload the "old" version.

If that is not a bait-and-switch please tell me what I am missing?

Steven Avery Hi,

Is the problem M B had unique ? Did he maybe do something in the wrong order or was there a harmonic disconvergence ? Have others installed without any such problem ?

Jack G I installed 2011 and registered it fine, works as it should as far as I know. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit.

Roger Thomasson @ Mike

This deal is no longer available, sorry!

BitsDuJour Admin - Jan 23 2012 at 11:21am Copy Link
_*_ Nico, my apologies; I in no way point to Bits in this at all. For me it was directed at the company that made it rather difficult to do a simple install and insert a registration key.
After trying again it did work, but it is odd that the program says "expired" at the bottom of it.

It made me a bit frustrated late last night, but still I should have been much clearer.

Thanks for the measured response back it is much appreciated.

Nico Westerdale You got it M B. We did notice some confusion with the links on this promotion, I think a factor of how we set up the promotion this time. We'll be making sure it's all super-simple for the next time we run a 100% off discount.

Y'all are are liking the 100% Off thing, right?
