Sara User Once burned... by some other vendor of U.S. phone numbers indeed, but...

My experience with Sonetel (Sweden) - NOT Hushed App that is: Were cheaper than others, so I bought/in fact rented a U.S. number. They had access to my credit card, soon started to take double price (double I say), had "announced" the price doubling within (!) one of their innumerable advertising (!) mails...

Real problem though (with my Sonetel U.S. number), and this may affect Hushed App indeed, since they should be affected by the same U.S. regulations as any other such provider:

I got automatic calls from computer voices day and night, almost daily, and up to 5 or 6 per day, the majority of them at night, between 1 and 4 a.m.

So I contacted them, and then also the U.S. authority (with the appropriate forms) where you can list your U.S. phone number in order for not getting automatic (computer) calls anymore.

Those calls did NOT stop but continued as before. So I searched the web for further information, and I discovered that all that "stop automatic calls to my number" circus only applies to real numbers / land lines, not to virtual ones, so that authority had had me fill it all out and hope for the best, without telling me in any way all that was useless effort on my side to begin with.

As implied above, since there is no physical telephone in the U.S. for your Hushed App area number you'll get, you possibly get the same unwanted-calls problem as mine described above, thus "lifetime" or not, you'll quickly put an end to it because you can't bear it anymore.

Hushed App above: "You can change your number once a year" - with Sonetel, I could have changed it even earlier than that, but it's obvious U.S. corporations know if your number is a real landline, or if it's a virtual one, and then you'll be in for a treat, so...

And last comment of the previous ones above: Some user from India having discovered the included minutes are just for "national" U.S. calls, i.e. TO other (real or virtual) U.S. numbers - he asked if a refund was possible and was told "contact us if you have questions" (!), which seems to indicate a "no"?

And another one: "My Florida number wasn't available, and the system asked me if I wanted some other number instead, to be chosen by the system from anywhere else within the U.S." (if I have understood that right), so be possibly prepared to get some Alaska number instead, not from sunny Florida. ;-) - These may be minor problems indeed.

But those myriads of unwanted computer calls, and which are LEGAL and thus unstoppable, are a real problem which may very well spoil your Hushed App U.S. number for you since I don't see a way for them to protect you from them, and those corporations have got a myriad of such numbers from which those computer calls emanate, so even blocking some of their numbers will not help.

It's evident that NO provider of virtual U.S. numbers has ever informed their prospects of this problem, so I don't blame Hushed App either, but I think that sharing my experience with such numbers could be helpful for making a discrete decision; whenever U.S. regulations change on this matter, that'll be a really new situation of course.

Jim Ranson Exactly what does this mean? So we have to keep paying for the service every 90 days and the only thing we get forever is the app itself??

Redstar333 This seems to be a cut down number of minutes (500 instead of 1000) compared to other Hushed offers on BitsDuJour and elsewhere. Also it says you can buy an additional Lifetime number as a gift but unfortunately Hushed tie the number to the email address that makes the purchase so I could not actually move it to someone else - I went round this several times with Hushed support who confirmed that they don't allow you to buy a lifetime number as a gift so this offer is misleading.

Oh yes, this would interest me a lot.
But when reading the rest, it seems the offer has nothing to do with this : the number is to be used in the States. I never go there.

Constantin Florea @Hubert CANEVET, I am sorry about the issue. This page is from an old deal and by mistake it may have appeared in the daily deal emails. The issue is now fixed in the sense that it won't appear in any upcoming daily deal emails.
