Zoner Software Hello Ricky, Assabes User,

This free giveaway can only be installed during the giveaway time of this limited-time free giveaway. It can be used from then on until you reinstall it. It cannot be reinstalled if you uninstall it after the giveaway, and it cannot be used on a different computer. (We also don't have a support guarantee on giveaways, by the way, and no discounted-upgrade guarantee as well.)

This is fairly standard for giveaways. We can assure you it is not part of an evil plan!

Hello DrTeeth,

We have been running Giveaways since forever, and they've always been highly restricted compared to paid versions - see above.

All in all we can only ask people looking at the question from each of these quite opposite directions to see how our middle ground might be fair!

Quill Pen Giveaways like this are much appreciated by most visitors, Zoner. It really is SOP for vendors to offer software with a narrow window for registration (almost always just 24 hours) BUT then allow you to USE it until your PC dies or your hard drive crashes.

Sadly, that is what happened to us in December, so we have to visit every day to try and rebuild a fine 6-year collection of excellent free software that we simply could never afford otherwise. Thank you for being the first one back in our toolchest! (assuming I can successfully jump through the download hoops... always unpredictable with BDJ)

Now, without sounding greedy -cough- hoping Ken Carlino & Pixarra offers TwistedBrush v.19 (or dare I hope maybe 20) real SOON. xxx

Martin Duck To those with Windows 10:
When you go to download the software Windows 10 will advise against it. The only reason it does this is because it is not a recognized Win 10 App.
Download anyway. It's perfectly safe.
When you go to install it a message will pop up again. Click "Ignore" and install.

Works perfectly. I upgraded from Zoner 16. After installing open Zoner 17. Click "Manager" and let your JPEGs, RAW files, etc. load up.

Uninstall Zoner 16 completely (do not click any of the boxes that come up when you uninstall...thumbnails, etc).

Enjoy :)

jman First, many thanks to Zoner and BDJ!

I don't understand people complaining about having to install/register the software within 7 days. Huh? Most giveaways require that you install the same day so giving a week is actually being generous! That said...

At the end of installation when the Zoner window states "Finishing installation", I get a Windows error pop-up stating "Program has stopped working...". My only option is to click the "close program" button which I do. I tried the install 3 times and the same issue occurs each time. The desktop icon is created and I can launch and register the program and it seems to be working. Beyond that, I am not sure how I can verify that the full install completed correctly. I am running Win 10 Home 64-bit.

Zoner Software Hello,

You have questions, we have answers!

Joe User: the most likely reason for the file-is-corrupt message is that the installer file literally is corrupt, that is, that there was some distortion during the download or the download was incomplete, so first try deleting the installer you downloaded and downloading it again.

TJ - we offer permanent upgrade discounts (and various one-time special offers) for our customers, but not for users of the Giveaway.

jboy - regarding the crash during the installation, it’s hard to say what happened from over here, but as long as the program is working correctly, it seems that it wasn’t critical.

Jim Buchanan Hi. I like your program and have had it (v15) for a bit as can be told from the version. My little question is fairly simple, I think. I haven't changed over to Win10 as of yet but intend to very soon. After I install ZP17 will there be an issue with it after I then install win10? MS can be so **** (put your own words in there) sometimes.

L Spark I bought this some time ago. I upgraded to version 18. While I use many different image editing programs, this is an excellent one to choose if you are going to just have one. It is a very versatile and competent piece of software. I would suggest grabbing this while you can.

Jim Buchanan I have a different problem regarding my email. For some unknown reason Bits du jour has problems sending things to me through my regular email and because of it, I have lost out on some deals. So I changed my email address to a different one which I only look at every so often. Hence, when I got your program I noticed that the email that is associated with it is not the email I want to use. How can I initalize the program if my email that I have with you (Zoner Studios) is different from that which is associated with the downloaded program? I really don't want to change my email with ZS just to get it working because I know how many emails I get from you guys with great hints - not support just hints. I would forget to get them.

c p Hope you can help.
Zoner has become my most-used & favourite software.
I have Zoner Pro 15 which I love and use all the time. I think it was from Giveawayoftheday. I then got Zoner Pro 16, from either yourselves or GOTD, can't recall (I only download free stuff from BDJ or GOTD - both excellent and trustworthy sites!)
Both versions are installed side by side without problems
.
My question is: Can I install ZP17 alongside them so I have the three versions?
If I have to, I will remove ZP16 as I don't use it as much, but I def don't want to lose my trusty ZP15, not at the moment anyway. However, if ZP17 'shines' I will replace Z15!

A brilliant giveaway folks which I highly recommend. Many, many thanks to BDJ and Zoner!

Hans User Zoner Photo Studio 17 is a top-quality photo editor for creative work with your photos. As a beginner I like to start each edit with the Shadows and Lights sliders to expand the range of each image as far as possible. I found that – by moving the Shadows slider in the Editor from 0 to 80 - Many photos can be greatly improved, as many details in the dark and black areas of the image will become visable! I just tried to edit 20 photo’s, which were made on a stage with spot lights and darker areas. It seems that you have to apply this shadows edit to one picture at a time. My question to Zoner: Is it possible to use the Batch Filter function in the Zoner Editor to apply this Shadows edit (from 0 to 80) at once to all the pictures in the Batch. Thank you Zoner and Bits du Jour!

Zoner Software Hello,

Here are answers to your questions from overnight.

Multiple users: This software ***DOES NOT REQUIRE a license code, registration number, or anything similar***, and therefore this software does not come with these. This is normal, OK, and how it's supposed to work.

For four indications of activation (though not registration, as there is no in-program registration), check:
* the text bubble when you move over the icon at the top left (it will say Zoner Photo Studio 17 PRO or Zoner Photo Studio 17 PRO x64, because this is the PRO edition, which means that your software is activated)
* the title bar when the program window isn't maximized - see above
* the Help > About window - it will contain the word "PRO" in the version text. (The full text will likely be "version 17 (Build 12) PRO", but I'm not 100% certain on the build.)
* the word PRO towards the top.

The program says PRO in these places because it *is activated*.

Jim Buchanan: Upgrading to Windows 10 after installing Zoner Photo Studio should be without issue.

Regarding the program: the difference in emails will not be a problem.

c p: Installing different version numbers side-by-side is no problem.

Hans User: Absolutely everything that can be done to pictures from the Manager part of the program can be done on multiple pictures at once, even when you're not using the Batch Filter. Just select the pictures you want, and use the edit you want.
The Batch Filter "adds on top of that" to enable also stringing multiple edits together into one, in addition to, as always, working on multiple selected photos at once.

han tuah: If you are using Internet Explorer for the download, try re-doing the download in another browser. In certain situations, downloads via Explorer can stay the same even when you try to re-download - a frustrating sort of second-guessing on Microsoft's part. If that does not help, please write again!

Quill Pen Thankfully, all went well and I've been able to add Zoner.

One of the truly troubling aspects of the way certain vendors handle free upgrades (and my only complaint about TwistedBrush) is that they don't allow side-by-side installs of new versions.

IMHO it really should be OUR decision when to remove an old yet fully-functioning version because so often a new version either won't install, has a corrupt install, has crippled features, etc. If a new version destroys the old version and then won't work or work as it did previously, you're out of luck, especially if the timer runs out before you realize there's a problem. Not sure why an older version has to be destroyed. It's not like it can be sold or used by someone else.

Ron Cavin I have the same problem as Bob Romanzo and Larry Futrell:
after downloading and installing the program says there is no license connected to the account. I have had a Zoner account for a number of years, and a BdJour account since 2013. I read and followed the instructions in the pdf, the Zoner site confirmed my long-standing account. So what's wrong?
I haven't used BdJour for quite a while because of these never ending hassles and complications with installing/registering the software offered.
To add insult to injury, I had a perfectly good working installation of Zoner Photo Studio (forget which version), but lost it when I had to change to a newer PC to run Windows 10. Seems to me that when you own a program, you should OWN it, not have it vanish without warning after you've gotten accustomed to relying on it.
But that's a discussion for another day. So what's up? Do I have a license for this thing or don't I ?!

Larry Futrell Thank you Zoner Software for the response to my issue. Apparently the software is activated for me, as it reports PRO in all of the places you listed. I was mislead because when I logged in and then clicked on PRO followed by my email address on the menu bar, one of the options shown is "Activate License..." and when I click that the panel for activation is shown, implying that the product is not activated. I assume that option and that panel are present in case I want to reactivate with a different license, but in that case I would have expected the "Activate License..." menu option to have been changed once the product had been activated to something like "Change License..." . Anyway, thanks for the fine product, and thanks again for your help.

Ron Cavin Yes, my copy now also reports "Pro", but I still don't understand why the web site reports "no license found". Wouldn't it be more user-friendly to indicate "no license required" or something similar for a pre-licensed software? Or perhaps gray out the "activate" option if the software is already activated? Most of us, I feel, like the assurance that what we have installed is genuine and valid, and the statement when accessing our account that "no license found for the product" does not inspire much confidence.

Zoner Software On to another round of answers. :-)

Ken User: Zoner Photo Studio 17 can browse pretty much any NEF and show it in the Editor as well, but to develop it in the RAW module, you’ll need to either have NEF from a camera we natively support, or expand our support. Looks like you’re using a camera we don’t natively support, so here’s a link to a guide on expanding our support:

https://magazine.zonerama...studio-17/

Regarding licensing: again, no license is found, because none exists, because none is needed. Thus efforts to dig for a license and similar quests will naturally lead to messages like “No license found.”

Every year we try to state even more clearly than the last that people are getting a pre-activated, license-free, license-less product... I’m open to suggestions on how to state it even more clearly, though.

Scott Youngman @ Zoner Software - First, let me thank you for this excellent offer on ZPS 17 Pro. It is because of your free versions in the past that I learned about and started to use ZPS, and now recommend it to friends.

Regarding the confusion about activation, the instructions for how to install the software (provided via a link in the receipt from BdJ) should be clear enough, particularly point 3 which says "Run Zoner Photo Studio 17 and log in. Your PRO version is now active."

Nevertheless, it is unusual for a Pro version of software to be valid without a license (even though the instructions say exactly that). Plus we all have an ingrained expectation that we must enter something somewhere to register a product. So when I saw the "Activate License" link in the dropdown list from the login box in the menu bar, I focused on the word "activate" and disregarded the "license" part.

Now I understand that link allows me to activate a license if I should purchase one in the future; it is not needed or relevant for activating this limited offer. Perhaps that information could be added to the instructions at point 3.

Darren Anton WARNING! They want you to have a "Zoner Account" Whats up with that crap? Does not sound good at all I will not be installing spam crap!
Feb 10 2016 at 2:55pm Copy Link

Scott Youngman @ Darren Anton - Well there are both good and "spam" accounts out there. I don't think it's fair to characterize every one as an automatic baddie. Many honest retailers maintain legitimate user accounts.

Based on several years of personal experience with ZPS, I can say that Zoner's account system is entirely safe and even useful. For one thing, it tracks licenses so you always have access to them; this makes it easy to install, reinstall, or move the software. I agreed to receive notices of special sales, also to receive useful photography tips -- but I can unsubscribe at any time. I have never received spam or any other junk from them.

Zoner creates quality software which they have worked hard to develop and improve. Why would they jeopardize their reputation by abusing their mailing list? And if you suspect their motives, consider that this offer for ZPS Pro 17 is truly generous (even if limited in a minor way). Plus they offer periodic discuounts and many useful free tutorials on their website.

Even if you _paid_ for ZPS, you would need to establish a Zoner account. So Zoner isn't trying to rip anybody off with this offer. They are simply being generous, and I for one really appreciate that.

Zoner Software Hello there Dan Amiel,

Zoner support here! Creating a Zoner Account is not necessary for activating this software. We're always happy if you create an account, but you don't need to do so.

More importantly, the Zoner Accounts system did have some trouble overnight, so maybe that is what you ran into! If you definitely want to (again - optionally!) create an account, you can try again now, and it will work out.

If that doesn't seem to be what you ran into, then I'll have to ask: at what point in the process are you getting blocked? Please be as specific as you can and include as much detail as you can - thanks!

EDIT: note that while ZPS 17 does not require an account, ZPS 18 (the paid version) does require one.

Just User Installed Zoner Photo Studio 17 Pro running 64-bit Windows 10 build 14393.10 and activated without a hitch. I've only had a limited amount of time to try it out, but so far, I am very pleased with it.

What I am particularly happy about is that the user interface looks and works flawlessly using higher scaling DPI 125% screen setting. Believe it or not, there is still plenty of software out there that may not look correct or even work properly when set to a higher DPI setting.

Zoner Photo Studio does looks like it has plenty of features to keep me busy for a while. I can't wait to take more time to explore them more thoroughly. I also found it to quite easy to just pick up and use, very easy navigation.

For those that may want a user guide and a few extras, simply head over to https://www.zoner.com/fre...r-download and scroll down to Zoner Photo Studio Extras.

Thank you BitsDuJour and ZONER software for this fantastic giveaway today. I am definitely going to be keeping this.

Zoner Software Hello Mr. Wonder,

Neither we nor BitsDuJour places trojans in our software or fails to scan for Trojans, because the negative effect of that would put us (or BdJ) out of business. This is a false positive.

You can scan any file for viruses and trojans using a large number of different antivirus programs all at once using, for example, the VirusTotal service (virustotal.com) or other such services.

The special BitsDuJour giveaway installer can only be downloaded through BitsDuJour.

BitsDuJUser Well, it is very much possible that your impression from your side may be correct. However, the antivirus software I use is Outpost Security pro, which is an excellent software. This is not free and it is licensed one.

I have also heard that softwares could be changed inbetween the origin and users computer during the transmission.

Thats what I now assume. I no longer thought that this is a false positive because I have turned off the heuristic function. Thereafter, it will not make any speculation.

It is also possible that the BJD wrapper of your software has something, which my anti-virus software does not recognize it.

Regardless of this, I refuse to believe that this is a false positive.

Does not matter, I will have to let it go instead of surrendering to a false positive alarm. Never trust american spying agencies...

If you have any doubts or concerns, here are my VirusTotal results for "zps17_en_pro_bdj2-August2016.exe" from a few minutes ago...
https://www.virustotal.co...470760966/

0/53 detection ratio results, it would be safe to say that the installer is clean :)

BitsDuJUser @Just User,

My sincere thanks for your message and analysis. I now do believe that the exe you have received is different than the one I have downloaded. So you may see that there is no trojan, while I am shivering...

It is better to close this chapter for me and accept that I will have to let this offer go rather than making a research on what is wrong somewhere.

I am confident that my Outpost Security Pro did not give a false positive. There is definately something in there, which is not acceptable... Again, thanks for your help...and the matter ends...

It says i need to login from inside the application with a zoner account.

It also says:
You do not need a license code (registration number, etc.), and you will not
receive a license code. Your software will be activated immediately once you’ve
created and logged in to your ZONER account.

But when i login from inside Photo Studio, it asked me for license code to activate the product. Can I just ignore it? If i don't activate, will this PRO version won't get revoked after a few days?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that everyone gets the same download, which is named zps17_en_pro_bdj2-August2016.exe. I also don't think this is a BDJ wrapper installer, as it is digital signed by ZONER software, a.s. on July 28, 2016.

At my end, I am running ESET Smart Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium fully updated, and neither of them have detected anything.

But in the end, it is your decision not to download and install.

Did you submit the alert to Yandex, (who purchased Agnitum and are discontinuing it by December 31, 2016) so they can investigate it?

BitsDuJUser I repeat again: This chapter is ended. I do not care what others think. I do care about my computer getting infected. If I feel something is wrong, then I do not want to install it. Period.

That means that I have no confidence on the executable I have downloaded. This could also mean that all others, who downloaded the executable, may not have any malware integrated into it.

We know that the American spying agencies have such capabilities and exchange executables during the download. Whats the problem in accepting this?

My Outpost Security Pro has given such a warning when I tried to install some software. They actually did have a malware integrated. Now, I got the same message. Thus, I refuse to install the executable, which I have downloaded.

If someone here has checked the executable with some software, then they never have checked the executable that I have. Thus, the results in my case and of others may be different. Is this very difficult to understand?

Zoner Software Zoner Support here again!

@Ian Sample: The installer is not tied to a motherboard. The only special giveaway limitation is that the installer can only be used - i.e. this giveaway - can only be installed during the giveaway period.

@Eva Lee: This special giveaway version does not need a license code, and thus does not come with, a license code.

@Gary Smith: Some things on computers, such as some licensing checks performed right after installing this giveaway, "security certificates" - certificates saying that e.g. "Zoner is really Zoner". These certificates are registered in "certificate authorities" - certain widely-trusted certificated warehouses, and computers are in turn told to check those warehouses when checking a certificate. If a given computer isn’t checking an authority that's aware of the certificate it's checking, it will show an error like the one you see. But why specifically this is happening in your case, I cannot say; all I can do is note that this error is a false alarm.

@ Martin User: no activation of your ZPS 17 is needed; you already have the full ZPS 17. As you note, no activation is also possible, because activation would require a license code, which is not needed and thus not sent.

In more detail:

Each installer for ZPS installs the program in a certain language.

(There is not a language switcher inside the program.)

The Giveaway installer installs the program in the English language.

Zoner Software Hello @Kal El

For some reason your earlier comment isn’t showing up when I refresh this comments page. It showed up fine in your link, however.

The core of your question was:

But when i login from inside Photo Studio, it asked me for license code to activate the product. Can I just ignore it? If i don't activate, will this PRO version won't get revoked after a few days?

The answer to this is the same as the answer to similar questions above and the same as is implied in the download message: no login or activation is needed, as the BDJ version is pre-activated. No manual activation of this already-automatically-activated version is needed or, indeed, possible. Your PRO version won’t get revoked after a few days.

Cary Adams @Mr Wonder... My, my... a 'cranky" day. You do know that even the best AV occasionally yield false positives.

Since you believe that the download you received is special, and unlike all the others' downloads here, why don't you upload YOUR copy to VirusTotal and see for yourself?

You do that here:
https://www.virustotal.com/

By the way, Outpost has its share of woes, and even AV-Comparatives doesn't even consider Outpost as a serious AV contender.
http://www.av-comparatives.org/

But please feel free to ignore this stellar offer. ZPS is hands-down the best affordable esiting and organizing photo software period.

I just wondering - in my computer I have Zoner Photo Studio ver. 15. Yesterday I got Zoner Photo Studio 18. Can I uninstall previous version without any distraction of my pictures?

Thanks so lot BitsDuJour for this nice program - I really like it! :)

DiggerP @ Mr Wonder, You write: "This chapter has ended " and you're so right, but so has your Outpost software.
http://www.agnitum.com/index.php
How good its virus definitions are after the sale - is anybody's guess..

You can have Pro, Platinum whatever, it's no good if it's giving false positives. Have you even bothered to check this file on VirusTotal ? https://www.virustotal.com/
If it is indeed infected, which I doubt - get a new download..

All I can say is that a closed mind is a unenviable state of mind.
" Everybody is wrong except me "

I agree with Dan Amiel - get rid of this software altogether.
My vote goes to Cary Adams as well for his description..

Anyway, time will have its own say in this ....and soon enough

Gary Smith @ Mr Wonder, Rather than speculate that your downloaded file is possibly different from others, post what the md5 or sha1 hash value is for your downloaded file so everyone can see. A hash value is commonly used to ensure that what you downloaded is the same as the file on the download site.

If you are not familiar with md5 or sha1 has values, the idea is quite simple. You use a program that calculates a "hash" value for a file. One single byte different will result in an entirely different number, meaning that if you have a hash value for a file, then change one byte of the file, and then calculate a new hash value, the two hash values will be drastically different.

If you do not have an app to calculate hash values, there are many free ones available. Many will work with the context menu, in that all you have to do is right click on a file, and select the item that will calculate the hash value. I like "Summer Properties" for the simplicity of adding a tab in the File Properties menu. It can calculate md5 and sha1, as well as crc16 and crc32 values.

Once you can show what md5 (or sha1) hash values are, you will become the leader in pointing out changes made while downloading files. Then you can more easily investigate what is causing the change. In order for a file to change, there has to be something in between your downloaded file and the file's source file that would change the data before writing it to your download location. Most likely that will be a malware program installed on your computer; it would have to be unique to your computer. If it were on your ISPs end, they surely would have caught it already.

Now, if your md5/sha1 value turns out to be the same as the source file, then you should start suspecting that the Outpost Security Pro software that is outdated may not be giving you accurate results. In that case, you might consider investing in better virus protection. Check out the independent tests that show which antivirus programs have not missed a single "in the wild" virus for several years running.

Looking forward to your hash value(s).

Gary Smith I do wish Zoner would handle link files (.lnk) correctly. Rather than open the folder a lnk file points to, it looks like it tries to display the lnk file as a folder/file. Other programs have no problem with lnk files, and others attempt to open the lnk file itself. Zoner has had this issue for as long as I have tested it (ver15, 16, 17). I have petitioned software developers to handle lnk files correctly, and they have made corrections, so I hope Zoner will do the same in a future version. If the operating system can use them, why shouldn't the software as well?

Can anyone create a shortcut to a folder that contains images, then see how Zoner handles the shortcut? It would be interesting to see if there are cases where this works.

Thanks.

Gary Smith @Peter Ekkerman, Guilty as charged; I was already afraid of hinting of a software program, but since so many are free, it shouldn't matter. I didn't even think about adding a link. The link you provided is an excellent list of HASH utils, plus explanations, and samples of the program's output. I urge anyone to check out that resource, especially if you do not already have a good HASH utility. Even if you do, there may some that you have not checked out. I am going to check out two I haven't tried yet.

Hopefully in the future, we can have published HASH values for the download files we get here. Regardless, we can always check any claimed alterations.

I hope Mr Wonder will at least test the file at virustotal.com. Once it is determined that the file is the same as what the rest of us downloaded, he can test his system out to see what the culprit is.

Thanks again for the great resource.

DiggerP @ Gary Smith,

Thanks for your vote :) Yes I thought it was a good start.
The article itself is a few years old , but most of the utilities are still available.

As for Zoner handling .link files or shortcuts - I found no fault with that.
I already had some shortcuts to files and folders and were shown
without hesitation for me.
(This is v17 which according to your writing above seems to have this issue for you - Not sure why......

Edit: I may have misunderstood - V17 does open shortcuts to files,
but for folders it shows the folder preview, but will open it when clicked..
which happens to suit my purpose...

Zoner Software Hello all!

@Irina Serebrina: Yep, you can uninstall version 15 safely.

@Gary Smith: Hmm. Just tested this now. The clickthrough works as expected for folders when you're doing a classical browse of the filesystem via the "This PC" (or "Computer" or "My Computer" - the wording varies among Windows versions) section of the Manager's left column. It does not when clicking through in the Catalog. It does work as expected (at least for me) for picture shortcuts in all cases. In any case - guilty as charged, at least partially. I will ask what we can do about this in this autumn's version of ZPS (the one after version 18). For now I can advise to stick to your picture folders themselves for the Catalog, rather than cataloging folder with shortcuts to picture folders.

Zoner Software @Gary Smith: Just explored this some more while writing up the issue ticket our issue tracker. It turns out there's another condition that has to be fulfilled for the problem to occur. It only occurs when the shortcut's target folder is outside of the Catalog.

So besides the workaround of not cataloging folders that contains shortcuts to folders, you can also, instead, use the workaround of cataloging both the folders with the shortcuts and the folders that contain the shortcuts' target folders.

Folders folders folders. Folders. I haven't said folders enough, I think.

Gary Smith @Zoner,
>It only occurs when the shortcut's target folder is outside of the Catalog.
I agree; it is only for shortcuts to folders on the Manager's Tab in the Catalog tree. The same shortcut under the others do work as expected. Thanks for getting the issue into the tracking system.
