big-red I've tried many multimedia players including the free (and very good) VLC and KMPlayer. I found the free version of Zoom Player Home 8, and I'm impressed. The configuration options are huge. The ui looks good. Videos are rendered well, and smoothly on the files I've tried so far. Videos will resume at the point where left off. You can play DVDs, but I haven't tried this function yet. This software relies on external codecs, but has a helper programme which keeps the codecs up to date. Both the Pro and Max (which plays Blu-Ray ) versions of Zoom Player have extended functions over the free version, so I'm proposing that this be considered for a BitsDuJour special.
