JM Villar Could a veteran of the site please tell me what BDJ means by "Deal Coming Soon"? A day? Week? Month?
        Apr 14 2012 at 12:15pm
Roger Thomasson We don't provide precise promotion dates -- coming soon means exactly that :)
        Apr 14 2012 at 2:17pm
JM Villar Ok, I understand. But could you answer me this?

What is the longest amount of time that has gone by from when you posted a "Coming Soon" and the time that the deal started?

Just an unrelated, historic question.
        Apr 14 2012 at 5:34pm
Lupke Brother I would gues two weeks :-)

Coming soon means: look here every day for the next week and you'll get the deal. You can also enter your email and you'll get a mail when the deal is on.
        Apr 15 2012 at 8:02am
Roger Thomasson Ok, fine, i'll be a little more specific :)

The promotion will probably happen within a week when it has the 'coming soon' tag.

Definitely less than two weeks :)

JM Villar Thanks guys for the more specific answers.

I am accustomed to Riot, Valve, and Blizzard's definition of "soon," which could be anywhere from 1 month to 10 years.
        Apr 15 2012 at 1:11pm
Roger Thomasson We're a bit more predictable than that :)

Vanessa N Jm,

Have been here a while and can guess-timate the date for you. Yes, it will certainly be here before the weekend. Bits du Jour used to be on a "date" system where you used to know exactly when the deal was offered, 7 days in advance; I miss that, too.

They generally have been offering two deals a day on weekdays, but sometimes it's only 1 (like today, pretty rare...these 1 deal/day things I've seen more often on a Wednesday).

On weekends (Fridays and Saturdays), it's been 3-4 deals on that day. I think Sundays are similar, but may be more like 2-3 deals that day. Quite often really popular items that have been featured here frequently are close to the weekend dates/bonanza dates.

So I would approximate, if they do 2 deals tomorrow and 2 on Wednesday, that Liquid Story would be offered on Thursday, at the earliest. And if they have one more day of 1 deal only this's likely Friday or Saturday when a whole slew of deals are offered (i.e. 3-4 a day), including Fantamorph, which is a somewhat popular item, and Liquid Story aswell (commonly featured here)

No earlier than Thursday and a good bet for Friday/Saturday.

The 70% off is certainly a steal, but if you or someone else has missed it, the next best sale is the developer often offers it for 50% off during Nanowrimo month (November...the whole month) least he did last year. He'll give a heads-up on the support forum as well.

Roger Thomasson Vanessa, I'm impressed! We don't actually schedule with this much specificity (at least not consciously), but several of your predictions are frighteningly accurate :)
        Apr 16 2012 at 11:01am
Vanessa N I spend way too much time on this damn site...pardon my french. Probably would get a lot more done if I didn't....

S B Vanessa N,

Many, many thanks for your great observations and insights!

There are many of us who spend a lot of time perusing the site, but it's been enjoyable, informative, and worthwhile--it's a wonderful picture of parts of the industry and their technical and marketing breadth. (someone somewhere has been doing great work)

I had started to notice a tiny bit of the pattern you reported, so it's great to have the real behavior from you--you certainly seem to be on the money. I have noticed some surprises: occasional promotions right after items first appear, as well as things to wait and wait for. It's personal, but I do sometimes worry about the site when the "Coming Soon" list dwindles or has many things that have been recently promoted.

Apparently there are a number of other bits fans, too.

Many thanks!

JM Villar Wow, this reply is above and beyond what I was hoping for, and I send you my many thanks. I think I may start frequenting this site, so it's nice to have some insight about the way things work around here from the get-go.

Vanessa N I swear Roger does this just to spite's there's 4 deals! Never seen that on a Tuesday before.

But it's Tax Day and maybe they think people have refunds. I have to there will be no software buying for me.....

That said, I should 2 deals will return for tomorrow (or maybe even just one given today's bonanza), and Liquid Story still on track for Thursday or Friday.
        Apr 17 2012 at 6:11am
Roger Thomasson We typically book the schedule about a month in advance, so I'd need some pretty good future-vision :)

Constantin Florea It means the product could be promoted anytime within 3 days not counting the day you see the label. So if today is the 19th of July, and if a deal has that Deal Coming Soon label, then the promotion will run either on the 20th, 21st or 22nd of July.
