Mr. Yoop Presto Linux is a very fast booting operating system that can be installed directly within Windows. The main advantage is that it can be installed/removed like any other Windows application and that does not modify your system configuration. Furthermore, with Presto Linux you can boot your computer in just a few seconds. Then, you are able to access your favorite applications, e.g. Firefox, Adobe, etc. As Presto Linux does not feel like a "real" Linux but more like a powerful application panel, it is very easy to use. More information can be found at

It would be also a great option if you can convince Xandros to offer a license for two PCs as special offer - normaly, a license is restricted to one certain hardware only.

For users who want to use a a complete Linux distribution afterwards, I recommend Vector Linux at which also comes in a Deluxe Version that offers additional support and several other advantages. This would also be a candidate for Bits du Jour ;-)

*Charging* for Linux?? Are they kidding? And a *7* day trial before becoming so crippled that it only runs for *10 minutes* at a time? Someone should tell these fools that the standard trial period is *30* days...and that Linux is usually *free*.

Anyone even remotely considering trying this distribution of Linux would be far better off with Ubuntu ( or, for a more Windows-like look-and-feel, Kubuntu ( Both of these can also be installed/removed from within Windows like a regular Windows program, or can be installed alongside or instead of Windows...and if you install either of them alongside Windows, they will automatically configure a menu allowing you to choose whether to boot (K)Ubuntu or Windows. Best of all, they are both totally *free* nags, no time-outs and no being crippled after an unbelievably short number of days!

Mr. Yoop Perhaps Presto Linux costs some money, but you get something that makes your PC starts faster as with other linux distributions - and I have tested a lot including Ubuntu/WuBi. I do not want to start another never-ending thread about Linux always to be free and why to pay paying for open source based additions. I should have known better :-|

It's just the fact that Presto is the best solution I have found for a fast starting, simple OS to surf in the web and to manage my emails - and thus for me it's okay to pay a little bit money for such a solution. For me, Presto is fast and perfectly to use - and therefore I wanted to see it here on Bits Du Jour. Sorry for this thread and any annoyance.

Roger Thomasson Hi Rick, it took me a bit to figure this one out, but it actually looks pretty cool. Yes it's a variation of the Linux OS, but to my mind the main functionality is that it allows for incredibly quick booting for a few specialized processes (like checking/sending email). I'm not sure that it's necessarily even comparable to Ubuntu.

I may be missing something though :-)
