Pierre duParte The "system" says I'm subscribed. The email address is valid. But no daily newsletter?

Should I worry?
        Apr 19 2012 at 1:18am
Nico Westerdale Pierre, We do have you in the database and you should be getting emails. We just changed our email system on the weekend and this can cause troubles in deliverability in the first week or so for some people.

Some things you can do to make sure you get the email:

- Add the email address: bits(at)e.bitsdujour.com to your contacts and safe senders list.
- Check your junk or spam folder

If this still doesn't work then please wait a few days, sometimes new mail servers do take a little while to get fully trusted by ISPs.

Pierre duParte hI,
I haven't received the newsletter for since the end of March. It is not in my junk folder.

Howvere, it is a gmail account, so maybe google has bitsdujour marked as spam?

I'll create another account with a non gmail address.
        Apr 19 2012 at 1:13pm
Nico Westerdale We know that gmail is arriving, but if you could add the email address: bits(at)e.bitsdujour.com to your contacts and safe senders list then it should help.

Please try that first.
        Apr 19 2012 at 1:21pm
Pierre duParte Gmail seems OK; I have just received notification of the posts here. So it must be the mailer program.

Thanks

Nico Westerdale The Daily Bits email uses a different system, so I strongly recommend adding that email address as a contact.
        Apr 19 2012 at 1:31pm
My Name Here Let me hijack this thread... I have the same problem. I have not gotten any Daily Bits emails for several days. Not sure when they stopped, maybe a couple of weeks.

THEY ARE NOT IN MY JUNK MAIL, so there is no need to add any addresses to my contacts or whitelist. They are just NOT ARRIVING, which leads me to think they are not being sent.

FYI.
        Apr 24 2012 at 3:32pm
Nico Westerdale Well really sorry about that, this does happen with new mail servers and they do take a while to "warm up" and get fully trusted, especially with the amount of mail we send.

To ensure you get the emails please do the following. The more people that do this the better our reputation so it really will help everyone. What's happening is that ISPs are filtering it for some people before it arrives in your inbox or spam folder, so doing this will actively help the mail come through!

- Add the email address: bits(at)e.bitsdujour.com to your contacts and safe senders list.
- Mark the email as "trusted" if your email client has that option.

Things should improve over the next few weeks, we're working closely with our service provider on this.

Nico Westerdale My Name Here, I see you're using SpamCop, it's especially important that you use the SpamCop tools to mark us as trusted. This will help you get our mail.
        Apr 24 2012 at 4:46pm
My Name Here It would be very helpful if you considered the possibility that something is wrong on your end rather than repeating the mantra of adding your domain to my contacts.

I know how SpamCop works, and there is no need to mark Bits DuJour as trusted. SpamCop does not bounce any of my mail. If the mail is marked as spam, it ends up in my junk mailbox, which I check several times a day. I haven't seen any of your emails for a while, so I think it's safe to assume they are not being sent.

Another possibility is you are using someone like Constant Contact to send your messages. CC will not send to SpamCop addresses, and maybe there are other mailing services that do likewise.

In any case, Bits mail is not reaching me.
        Apr 24 2012 at 6:02pm
Nico Westerdale I've checked and you're on the list and the emails are being sent.
        Apr 24 2012 at 8:36pm
My Name Here Okay, I will run this by the SpamCop email folks. I certainly hope they are not bouncing (or discarding) any email.

Thanks!
        Apr 25 2012 at 6:28am
My Name Here FYI, the SpamCop mail support desk says that no mail is blocked unless it carries a virus payload. All other mail ends up in the Inbox or Held Mail.

I will switch to a different email address and let you know what happens.

My Name Here Well, I signed up last Wednesday (April 25) with a gmail address, and I have not received any daily bits newsletters.
        Apr 30 2012 at 5:26am
DrTeeth I have my own domains and recently became aware of an issue that somebody was sending an email to the correct address and it was not arriving. It was being received at a gmail address.

Turns out my email accounts at my web hosting company had email filtering software, that was activated by default, that I had not known about. I immediately deactivated the whole lot preferring to deal with spam in-house.

Frank Sielna Dear Nico,

same here, no emails since 20120416.
What I see from the logfiles of our server is that you switched from sending with serious services (mandrillapp.com - until 20120330) to sending with SPAMers (you would call them "email campaign service" - cccampaigns.com) and so many serious mail servers using serious blacklists will blacklist you.
IMHO it was up to you to use serious providers if you really want to reach your customers/users.

Regards, Frank

P.S. On our server you have mostly been blocked by ix.dnsbl.manitu.net - a very serious blacklist maintaned be a very serious German computer magazine (iX, that's FAR away from Computerbild!) that delists /automatically/ ONLY 12 hours after the last SPAM was received! See http://www.dnsbl.manitu.net/ and http://ix.de/nixspam/dnsbl_en/ .
For instance the mail server that got blocked today was carbone-foze.cccampaigns.com (81.92.115.40) and is on ix.dnsbl.manitu.net since 20120412!!! You see how UNserious your SPAM provider is.

Nico Westerdale Franck,

Thanks for the technical details I really appreciate this. I'll pass these on to our Email Service Provider. We're still working with them to get the server running smoothly. Unfortunately due to the volume we're sending this is going to take a little while.
        May 5 2012 at 5:30am
Grant Anderson This happens to me, as well, exactly as in this full thread. My only spam filter is managed by my ISP, which is Comcast.net. So likely none of your Comcast addressees are receiving your newsletters. Please try fixing this.
        May 6 2012 at 7:37am
Frank Sielna Dear Nico,

FWIW, today your mail was sent by carbine-fisi.cccampaigns.com (81.92.115.56) and guess what? YES, it's in NIXSPAM.
I tried a very few of their IP range and at least every other IP is on that (and other) blocklists (81.92.115.42 for instance was clean today).

I can handle that as I am a postmaster who maintains our own server - so I get your mails. But 99% of your users cannot.
BTW: If cccampaigns.com was only slightly serious you had reports about how many active rejections (i.e. the receiving mail server says something like "554 GTFO, bloody spamer!") your mailings get. Multiply that by a number of at least 3 (IMO the multiplier is /much/ higher) to get the additional passive rejections (mail is accepted but deleted w/o notifying the sender or put to a SPAM folder).

Just to remind you: Being listed at NIXSPAM means having sent mails to a SPAM-trap within the last 12 hours. SPAM-traps /never/ give out their email addresses but these are mostly harvested from websites.

So the only real solution would be to leave these bleeding SPAMers at cccampaign.com and go to a serious provider.

Yours, Frank

Nico Westerdale Ok guys, as of this morning we have been migrated to a different pool of servers. We should see a much improved deliverability rate starting tonight.

Please let me know if you continue to have issues and we'll track them down. Thanks everyone for your patience with this.
        May 9 2012 at 9:35am
Nico Westerdale I'm hoping that the lack of replies means that you guys are finally getting the Daily Bits emails now. It's looking good from our side now.

Please let me know either way, and thanks for being patient.
