Power users have long known that WinRAR is perhaps the best compression/decompression/archive utility for Windows. WinRAR is fairly small, light, and fast. WinZIP might be able to do more, but is arguably more bloatware. I personally love WinRAR and miss it when working on a PC that doesn't have it installed. I now take advantage of WinRAR being officially available for U3 (USB) drives.

win.rar GmbH (http://www.win-rar.com/), the official publisher for RARLAB products, handles all support, marketing and sales related to WinRAR and www.rarlab.com.

WinRAR includes FREE lifetime upgrades with purchase

See why more and more people choose WinRAR over other solutions...

There are a few alternatives out there (outside of WinZIP), but probably the only one to give WinRAR a legitimate run for its money as far as power, flexibility, and speed without being as bloated as WinZIP is PowerArchiver. http://www.PowerArchiver.com

PowerArchiver also includes FREE lifetime upgrades (as it always has), but supposedly that is something being fazed out and is only for a limited time now.

No, PowerArchiver isn't nearly as well known as WinZIP or WinRAR, but those that have tried it are quite happy. I am one of them. See what others think...

Roger Thomasson We'd love to offer WinRAR on Bits, unfortunately our requests have been declined :-(

Thanks for your input however, and keep the suggestions coming!

Hey Roger...

thanks for the update and letting us know that you at least tried.

See what you can do with FastStone Capture (see separate post) or Easy CD-DA Extractor (again, see separate post)... both of these are really good applications.

Thanks again.
