William, does your application support Unicode? Does your application support keyboard shortcuts for text formatting such as indentations and bullets?

William Gurvitz Eddie, ActionOutline supports unicode in outline notes (right side of the main window), and does not support unicode in the outline itself (left side of the main window). However you can choose any required character set for the font used in the outline and this way enter the text in your language into the outline (if it is different from your Windows default language/font).

ActionOutline has keyboard shortcuts for indentation (Ctrl+, and Ctrl+.) and bullets (Ctrl+;). There is a lot of shortcuts in ActionOutline please press Shift+F1 or select Help, Keyboard shortcuts to see a list of all ActionOutline keyboard shortcuts! Please check Outline navigation shortcuts and many others very convenient ones, for example Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right to move splitter separating left and right parts of the program window around, thus making more space for the outline or the note depending on your current needs.

bvssunnydale As a registered user, I agree that it's very disappointing that minor updates aren't free, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of active development for this product [it's years between full versions]. They do have pretty decent support though. [and is BitsDuJour EVER going to change the default of "Email Me Updates" to un-checked?]

HJ B I have used this product heavily for years. It is reliable. Has never crashed. Permits creation of numerous outlines, each of which can hold very large amounts of data, and all of your outlines are immediately available by clicking on a tab. An outline can be one or many pages, and each page can be on an subject you wish. The application is a flexible tool that can be shaped to whatever purpose and structure suits your needs. You can print a page or the whole document. You can also print to a pdf if your have a pdf print driver.

A deficit or a feature, depending upon your needs, is that the product is not indexed by content indexing software such as google desktop.

Similarly, the product uses the same Windows text processing functions as are in Wordpad. Great for cleaning controls out of text; not good, but therefore not usable to store and retrieve formatted text and documents.

I agree with those who complain that minor revisions ought be included in the original purchase price, even if beyond the one-year period. The 50% off deal being offered here for the full package is the same as the 50% off deal made to existing owners who wish to upgrade to the latest version.

That said, if you are looking for a structure that permits both the organization of data and the dumping of data for general purposes, you are not likely to find a better product, particularly at this offered price.

James Kenney While I do not like the update policy, there MAY be a resonable explination...

If the .1,.2, .3 updates ARE major updates, then it makes perfect sense.

Word Perfect was the same... The changes between 5.0 and 5.1, while minor to someone just using the old features, were MAJOR indeed if you used them. Word Perfect reserved major number changes for things that changed major parts of the program enough to require retraining, or a change in day to day usage. Things like how you saved a file, or the key mapping, or the scripting language.

If that is the case here, then I have no problem with it.
If it was mostly bug fixes, without major new features, then it amounts to nothing more than a loose software subscription.

Steve Zeoli Be careful with this application. Less than two weeks after I bought a copy my computer crashed. I needed a new download for the new computer and I've written twice now to the company asking for a link and have gotten no response. They apparently do not care about their customers.
