Master Your Operating System!

Windows can sure be a tricky beast with all those nooks, crannies, registers, hidden processes, and applications. And let's face it, Windows doesn't make any of it particularly easy to parse. Fortunately, where Microsoft's light shines a little dim, Task Manager Pro illuminates like a beacon.

Task Manager Pro is a powerful utility that provides a comprehensive set of tools to put you in full control of your computer. It gives you full detailed information about every process or application that is running, and lets you easily block or change the priority of each.

But that's just the beginning!

Sascha Tuberkel I am sorry that BDJ had just 20% off when I purchased AnVir Task Manager Pro in December last year.
Anyway with 60% off this is a SUPER - OFFER.

I just can highly recommend to tryout this software and I am convinced that anybody interested in this task manager should buy at this price.

Since I got it, I cannot imagine my Windows PCs running without this software.

NO Bugs so far - thanks and thumbs up to the developers!

Javier Gil Can someone explain what makes this a better product than the free "Process explorer" created by the people at microsoft? it looks pretty good, but what are some of the features that PE doesn't have?
Feb 16 at 1:06am
Chris Dennis Does this work with Windows 8 64bit?
Feb 16 at 2:36am
Louis H @Javier Gil

I can't compare it to Process Explorer as I have no real experience using PE. But here is a list showing all of the features of Anvir Task Manager Pro that might help you....

@Chris Dennis....

FWIW... here is the developer's info

Peter C1 Is it possible to purchase a License as a Gift for somebody with a different name but still send the receipt/invoice to my email address?

OR perhaps better explained:

Can I buy the Pro+3 Years Xtra Support and then contact You and ask for the Licensed Name & Registration code to be changed to the Gift Recipient's care of my Billing Address?

Then the Recipient knows nothing about it until I send them an email with the surprise Gift details
Feb 16 at 3:57am
bob roos This is substantially more than ProcessExplorer. For one thing there is a video tutorial on the program and the startup section alone is worth the price.

It is seriously scary, I think, to see all that the compute is doing. It is much more complex than I realized.

DroidLuvr I've been reading back through several years of comments here, and I have a couple of glaring consistencies:
1. The developers don't appear to show up here to answer any questions: that always concerns me when it comes to having to use their technical support;
2. There have obviously been problems with PUP's (add-ons that are maybe not obvious --bundled with the product - a BIG no no - IMHO.
3. The people that HAVE been using it still seem to like it so it still sounds interesting but #1 and #2 break all my rules when it comes to deciding whether or not to buy software...

EDIT... no PUPs found in this download for me...
Feb 16 at 11:00am
bob roos @DroidLuvr I agree that it is much nicer when the developers are here. WAY better than the big box stuff.

What PUPs are you talking about? You said "have been" -- are there now? Just caught your edit. I didn't find anything so I was wondering.
Feb 16 at 11:39am
DroidLuvr @bob: I just was reading a lot of the complaints from previous purchases. While there is an ad for the Registry software program comments before have mentioned on the site when you finish your installation, there wasn't anything bundled in my trial download :) -- I would have been disappointed in BDJ if there had been, but no problem for this one! (That's why I threw in my edit...)

Anyhow, since I've been using Sysinternals Process Explorer, which is free, I wanted to see what "more" this had to offer, and I have to say it seems like a lot more available information here, as well as a lot more options to work with processes and services!

There isn't any formal tech support for Process Explorer although there is a lot of forum help for it, so I guess I'll just hope that the tech support is better than the participation here from the developer ;) -- or just hope I don't need any :-)
Feb 16 at 12:05pm
Cary Adams Process Explorer is not comparable. Probably the nearest competitor utility is WinPatrol.
Feb 16 at 1:54pm
~kdm OK - Javier Gil, I have had this replace Microsoft's task manager on every pc running MS windows that I have owned since I discovered this product. It tell you every process that is running, unlike MS task Manager. It has detailed information about the process - unlike MS task manager. It tell you if something is trying to be loaded onto your computer and allows you to stop it, even better than task manager. The pro version is highly recommended, and I wouldn't run any MS windows system without having this product running. Test it out, but for this price you cannot beat it!
Feb 16 at 1:58pm
bob roos I really like the portable version. And stepping through the startup item by item is great. I had 45 startup items on my system and was able to drop a few that I didn't really use any more.
Feb 16 at 2:37pm
Richard Andersen This is a really great and well functioning program with a lot of nice features. Been using it for several years and never needed tech support, so I can't tell how good it is, but they do seem to be rather responsive in their tech support forum, and that's a better idea than email support IMO since others can read there as well about any problems and their solutions.
Feb 16 at 4:15pm
DroidLuvr I went ahead and purchased too; and although I've run WinPatrol, Process Explorer, a variety of other utilities and start-up managers, this has provided me with more information in the few hours I've been playing with it than all others combined!!

It's absolutely no comparison to Windows Task Manager, and WinPatrol and ProcExp together don't even come close to what this can do...

Thanks BDJ!

Michael K @ developer

Hi,
I would just like to be clear on the extended upgrade option.
Can you please confirm that as the basic program comes with 1 year of free upgrades and the addon says 3 additional Yeats of upgrades that a purchaser of the extended upgrade option will get a total of 4 years of free upgrades.

Thanks

Michael K
Feb 16 at 4:55pm
Louis H Michael...

You may not hear from the developer.....

Here is how my email with my license keys reads...

"You\'ve got 2 registration keys. Please enter this key to get additional 3 years of free updates.
To complete your registration, on the Help menu, click Enter Registration Key. The Registration dialog appears. Enter your registration values (Name and Key) and press OK.

Free updates: 4 years"

So you do get 4 years of updates. 1 year with the actual purchase and 3 additional years with the addon offer. And all 4 are included in the $32. A great deal!

~kdm They (ATM & AntiVirus software) will not interfere with each other at all. AnVir TM is not an anti-virus. it is a task manager, just like the MS Task Manager - correction, it it a Extremely Superior Task manager - if to be compared with MS Task Mnager.
Feb 16 at 7:43pm
Richard Andersen
ATM has an option for scanning files at virustotal.com. This will not cause any conflicts with your current AV program as the scanning takes place online (nothing will run on your computer).

EDIT: Sorry, I was wrong about what I first wrote about the AV addon in the earlier versions, I was confusing ATM with another program. ATM did however have an option for installing a registry cleaner addon, but don't seem to have this anymore.
Feb 16 at 8:07pm
Frank Stephens I used to use this, but there were problems with the code quality. I'm pleased to report that it's been improved, they're now using portions of Open Hardware Monitor (some monitors are incorrect, but it doesn't break anything). Junkware has largely been removed, junk options are now off by default. I purchased the additional 3 years, for a total of 4. According to the History, it should work on Win8x64. AnVir has lots of nice features. I don't need the monitoring anymore (Resource Monitor is better), but the logs are useful, as well as added options to window menus. Various other useful features, like being able to set process priorities (although I'm presently using Process Lasso to do that). Well worth the price.

Peter C1 UNFORTUNATELY it looks like there are going to be NO REPLiES from the VENDOR over this weekend to even a single question.

So it does say something - at least in my mind, about the VENDOR's attitude towards prospective buyers'.

SHAME ...

Kelly Major *** BEWARE *** - The full Pro installer also installs "Registry Organizer"

AnVir TaskManager Pro is not off to a good start with me. In fact I'm considering pursuing a refund. It installed some other software called "Registry Organizer" and I consider those kind of practices unethical and unacceptable.

I got here late today to check out the offers so I didn't have much time to make a decision. I read the comments here and decided based on them I would purchase the software on faith. I read comments about other software being installed and immediately thought no chance of buying this. Then I read comments that said users had installed this and there was no other software installed so I foolishly purchased it and sure enough, I've got the registry organizer **** to get off my computer.

They will be hearing from me tomorrow. - KEM

Nico Westerdale Great News! AnVir Software has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy!
BitsDuJour Admin - Feb 17 at 12:11am
~kdm If one pays attention, when installing software you will see if it is installing something else, and AnVir does show a place where you are asked if you do not want to install the added software. I have had this with AntiVirus software, and other software too; like it want to add Google's Chrome to your computer, etc. One needs only to pay attention - too many times I have seen people just click away without reading what is on the screen.
Feb 17 at 12:18am
Michael K @ Frank Stephens et al

Thank you frank for your detailed review which as always is much appreciated.
When you say Resource Manager is better, do you mean the standard windows 7 resource manager?
I am still wavering on this software and it was your previous posts about your system crashing because of the program that has caused me concern as well as the amount of resources it uses when running.
System stability is paramount for me and everything else amounts to frills I can mostly live without. I seem to load more and more utilities in the hope that they will help me maintain stability or help me find the culprit and restore things in the event my system becomes unstable.
Is this a must have utility ? I will watch this conversation for the next few hours for more detailed reviews and experiences to help me decide.
And it is rather concerning and disconcerting that the developer is always a "no show" here.

Thanks

Michael
Feb 17 at 12:27am
Frank Stephens Kelly Major, you probably installed the version from Avangate, which is probably old. Uninstall all of that, and install the version from here, which takes you directly to the AnVir site and the latest version. No other junk is installed. It has a "Tweaker", I don't care for those, but you don't have to use it.

Michael K, the Windows 7 Resource Manager gives you better information about what's going on on your PC. While I certainly wouldn't consider this a "must have" utility, it does add nice features. The install was clean, so I doubt that it will affect system stability, but it's too soon to tell. AnVir does hook into everything, and I did notice occasional application startup delays after installing it, perhaps from logging while my system was under load, perhaps from my security software. Again, it's too soon to tell if that's going to be an issue, everything's working fine now. I do like having the logs, they're different than what's available from my security software and from Windows. I'm still disappointed in some of the code quality. The worthless security estimates are unaware of the extended system tray area in Windows 7 after all of this time, but I don't pay any attention to those estimates. AnVir does take some CPU, that depends upon your processor's capabilities. If in doubt, try the trial first.
Feb 17 at 12:57am
Kelly Major I just heard back from the support for AnVir who says they don't install other software. I don't know how they couldn't know about it.

The only thing I can possibly think of is I downloaded it from the link in the invoice email and maybe the payment processor wrapped their installer or they have and old version because it did auto update on the first launch.

The fact is it installed "Registry Optimizer" on my computer without my EXPLICIT permission and that is unethical and I won't tolerate it from any vendors I do business with. Explicit meaning I have to accept an option to add something else not I have to take any special action to prevent it.

I will post again after I hear back again from support.

Please send me an email detailing exactly what happened when the unwanted software was installed. As yet, no other customers have reported this issue.

Richard Andersen It is correct that some earlier versions of ATM would install a Registry Cleaner per default, unless you opted no to this, unchecking a checkbox.

As far as I can see though, the latest version 7.5.1 does not install anything extra or gives you the option for this. Instead (unless you uncheck the "Open Website" box) it will open a webpage where you are offered to download and install the Registry Cleaner.
Feb 17 at 9:23am
Venks . I installed it as a trial days before buying it yesterday.Even as a trial it did not install any unwanted software on my machine just a small installer.
Although I downloaded it from the Vendors website directly.
Feb 17 at 10:56am
Roger Thomasson @ Kelly

Please email me the invoice email so that I can step through the install process. You are clearly getting different results from other customers. This is something we need to examine, but not publicly.

Thanks for understanding,

BitsDuJour Admin - Feb 17 at 2:15pm
Kelly Major @Roger Thomasson

Sure. I don't think it has expired and there should be at least one download left. Unfortunately after the update installed I deleted the original installer I downloaded so check the date on it to see if it may have been updated.

As I asked before: How do I send it to you directly?

Thanks! - Kelly

bob roos It just saved me a lot of debug time. Using the portable version I was able to find out that when a program I wrote ran on one computer it ran OK and when on a different computer it failed. I could compare the list of DLLs connected to my program and found the connection to the wrong one.

I realize there are other programs that list the connected DLLs, but this is all in one place and one program. I am happy with it.

And no extra programs were installed with the Pro version.

Peter C1 Sadly more comments about AND still now replies from the Vendor ...

That silence says a great deal about the Vendor and their attitude towards prospective buyers.
Feb 17 at 11:56pm
Louis H Peter C1

Silence from someone, in and of itself, says nothing. Period.

Folks are, however, free to make assumptions as to what that silence means.

Until I actually learn WHY someone is being silent, I prefer to not jump to conclusions or make suggestions that have no verifiable data to back them up.

My actual past experience with this particular Vendor, in the past, has left me with a positive attitude towards the Vendor as an individual.

I choose to trust the Vendor, based on my actual contact with him a few years back as well as on my satisfaction with the product and the changes that have been made overtime in response to input from actual users of the application.

Still, as I said, others are free to make their own assumptions in absentia.
Feb 18 at 4:09am
Kelly Major My apologies if something in my last post was a violation but I don't think this part was so I'm going to try one more time.

It has been confirmed that the installer I downloaded from the invoice email does default to installing additional software without explicit permission. I chose the "recommended" full install but if had had chosen the "Custom (recommended for advanced users only)" installation I would have seen a check box that is ENABLED by default to install the Registry Optimizer product.

That is exactly the kind of practice that I'm opposed to. Hiding an enabled option to install software, toolbars, etc. other than what I purchased on a hidden screen that most people would never see. Especially in a product that purports to protect you from that kind of deceptive behavior by other vendors.

That combined with the vendor being non-forthcoming about it and not responding to multiple inquiries about what the refund procedure is cause me a great deal of concern about doing business with them.

Hopefully it will turn out that the Avandgate download was an older version and this was just all a mistake. In that case I would expect the vendor to apologize, correct the download, and respond to my refund question. In that case I wouldn't even want one.

If it hadn't been for the additional software being installed I have no problem with the product. It bring several tools together I already have into a single consolidated interface and appears to have utility in that regard.

Feb 18 at 8:51am
bob roos Very interesting -- I had downloaded the trial and installed it and saw no other software. After reading about the other program installed I decided to check it out further.

The trial installation program is 3.6mb and the "official" product from the email is 7.2mb.

In the installation of the trial there is no option to do a custom install, but in the full version there is and that is where one sees the already checked checkbox for Registry Optimizer.

I agree, this is not a good thing to install a product by default without a visible way of opting out ON THE DEFAULT INSTALLATION PATH.

At least know I know why some people report no additional software and some do.
Feb 18 at 9:07am
Sascha Tuberkel I am very convinced, that most of the persons that encounter a problem with the installation of Registry Optimizer are also the same who never read the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT before clicking the I AGREE button. ;-)

By the way I am not in favor to the procedure of implementing any other software to the installer of a bought Full Version. This is the only negative thing about this product I have to mention. It seems like adware procedure, but I also had the same problem with Nuance PDF Converter Pro - so it is not Vendor specific.
Feb 18 at 9:26am
bob roos @Sascha " I am very convinced, that most of the persons that encounter a problem with the installation of Registry Optimizer are also the same who never read the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT before clicking the I AGREE button. ;-)"

The license agreement says NOTHING about Registry Optimizer. Did you see it in your agreement because it is not in mine. I even copied all the text out to a larger venue. I hate having to try to read stuff in little boxes.
Feb 18 at 9:33am
Sascha Tuberkel @bob
You did misinterpret me,because I did not say that there was a hint to cancel or permit the installation of Registry Optimizer in the license agreement.

I just wanted to state that many pc users who install software just click " next, next, next ....Install " and afterwards wonder, why this or that happened to their machines.
And yet most of them without having read the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT before clicking the I AGREE button.

Be Honest, most of us don`t!
Feb 18 at 10:16am
bob roos @Sascha, I do scan user agreements but not read every word.

The truth is you either click "I agree" or you do not use the software. So it is almost why bother to read it if you want the function of the software?
Feb 18 at 10:32am
Roger Thomasson Please note folks, all AnVir Task Manager Pro installers should be clean at this point. The vendor found some residual instances of the old installer on Avangate and replaced them.
