Alain Bocherens Do you have a Flash plugin installed? Banner Effect generates Flash banners, so it needs the Flash plugin.

Let me start by saying I'm a die hard slide effect pro user. Great tool and great support from devsoft (you). Devsoft is a good company in my opinion.

So I was wondering why I have small doubts about banner effects. The trial works great as expected, but in my opinion there are not many effects and transitions or do I overlook some functions? I would like to see more pre-designed banners, some animated and static backgrounds, more transition and text effects, animated effects and overlays, buttons, shadows, blurs et cetera. You know what I mean.

I know banner effect was only released some 15 months ago, but will there be more goodies in banner effect in the future? Please correct me if I overlooked a lot of features!

In short I agree with you. But let's complete a little bit :) ...

When we released Banner Effect, the idea was to create a tool to create very small Flash banners to be used on advertising channels like Google Adwords.

To be able to do that we reduced the features to create very small flash files as used in advertisement (usually limited to 50kb)

That's why the feature set is a bit limited in the actual version.

After some month, we realized it was used for ads, but a big part of our customers were using Banner Effect as a quick way to create flash animations for their website, but not related to advertising.

So we started to work on the next major version of Banner Effect with that in mind.

Main features of this new version:
- Able to create Flash and HTML5 banners.
- Much more effects for text/images (outline,shadow, reflexion, more start/end/anim effects)
- More transition effects.
- New background effects.
- Unicode support (to be able to type any type of characters (like Arabic or Chinese).
- Possibility to add click target to objects (to be able to create a menu for instance, or to navigate through the slides of the banner - to create an interactive banner)

So, yes, Banner Effect will evolve to something more complete. We are working on the new version since quite a few months and it should be a major overhaul of the program.

To answer future question, the upgrade to the new version will be free for every customers who purchased Banner Effect less than one year before the upgrade.

I won't give a precise release date, as schedule may slip, but it is actually planned for mid February.

Brian H Hi - I have an interest in graphics, animation and website design, and this looks like a very interesting product! How do you feel it compares with what Aurora has with their "3D Animation Maker", which has also been offered here on BDJ in the past. Does this product have any competitive advantages that set it apart from Aurora and perhaps offer greater value and benefit to an end user like myself? Thanks. -Brian

Alain Bocherens Well, "3D Animation Maker" is not the same kind of software than Banner Effect.

Their software purpose is to create complex 3D animations and then create movie from these animations. As far as I understand it won't create native Flash objects, but movies embedded in a Flash object.

Banner Effect's goal is to create small sized Flash banners in a easy way.

It generates native Flash objects. It means the banners generated with BE will be much smaller and more adaptable to a website.

I don't say "3D Animation Maker" is a bad product, but it is more aimed to 3D animation movie creation than web banners.

Alain Bocherens I am not trying to do a "presale" of the next version...

But, yes I can summarize the new features, but it is subject to change:

- Banners will be generated in Flash and HTML5.
- Texts will support gradient, shadow, outline and reflexion.
- 35 start/end effects (including particles effects)
- 12 animation effects
- start/end/anim effects will be configurable (time, amplitude, color,...)
- 12 slides transition effects
- Background effects will be added (probably particles effects, but it is not finished yet, so I cannot give more details on that particular part)
- Possibility to assign an URL to every objects on the slide.
- Possibility to assign a slide destination to every objects on the slide (to navigate through the banner)
- Unicode support for texts (to be able to type Chinese/Hebrew/...)
- Help will be rewritten
- German translation will be added
- Opacity of objects can be changed.

This will be the main new features of BE 1.2.0.

HJ B As I understand it, if a visitor to a website does not have the flash plug in installed, there is a way to automatically provide that visitor with an alternative image. Does Banner Effect provide the means to do that? Can you explain how that process works?

replace simply "banner.swf" by your banner name, change the width and height accordingly and set the image you want to show if Flash is missing.

HJ B Thank yo for your reply. I installed the program and it appears to be as you describe. Some further questions:

1, It seems that font size can only be modified by shrinking the window in which the text appears. Is that correct?

2. Can font attributes, such as size, bold, ital, etc be modified within a word or sentence?

3. Can animated graphics be inserted into the swf. What format must the graphic be?

4. As I understand it, the major revision that you describe in prior responses will be free to those who purchase this present version. is that correct?

5. Are their any dimension, duration or content limitations to this product? By dimension I mean size of banner window; by duration I mean the overall duration of play, by content I mean bytes of text or graphics or type of graphic.

Alain Bocherens 1. Yes, correct. In the new version it will be more "standard" - ie: choose the font size in properties.
2. No. In the new version you'll be able to set more attributes (bold/italic/underline) but only for the whole sentence.

Alain Bocherens I need one or two additional weeks for the official new release, but you can already try the beta version.
