How many different standalone applications do you use to manage your partitioning, imaging, and multi-boot configuration needs? Two? Three? Five? If you'd like to streamline your process and free up some of your valuable time, I'd suggest shrinking all of those functions down to the only application you need -- BootIt Next Generation.

BootIt Next Generation is your complete solution for creating partitions, imaging drives, and managing multi-boot setups. In no time at all, you'll be running as many operating systems as your heart desires, all off of a single hardware setup!

Compatibility problems won't be an issue with BootIt Next Generation. The software works across all version of Windows and supports x64 (AMD64/EM64T) and Windows 64bit OS (non-GPT). If you work with extremely large storage, you'll be pleased at BootIt Next Generation's ease at handling drives up to 2TB and partitions from 1 to 2TB.

In addition to creating, securely deleting, and undeleting partitions, BootIt Next Generation also performs non-destructive resizing for both NTFS as well as FAT/FAT32 drives. Can you imagine creating over 200 primary partitions on a single drive? With BootIt Next Generation, it's entirely possible!

If backup and recovery is the name of your game, you can use BootIt Next Generation to create disk images directly to optical media, plus you have the option of booting from any partition, an optical drive, or booting from multiple operating systems on a single partition!

Stefan Hauber Once in a while the master-boot-record of my boot-harddisk is destroyed somehow. My current backup/restore-program does not touch it, so the current restore-actions are: (i) ReInstall Windows XP on the harddisk (This repairs the mbr). (ii) Run a 'Restore' with my backup-program. (Has to be done, since (i) overwrites some files)

So, is it possible to just overwrite the mbr (for a chosen OS) with the desired bootable mbr?

R G Hi! Is this license for one PC only? Or is it personal? I have 2 PCs that are used only by me. If I would want it installed on both, will I need 2 licenses?

Bill Sivula re David F (TeraByte Unlimited Developer) comment that single Home/Personal license covers three computers,
I downloaded The User Manual; page 45 of 52,
(Full-Use) License Agreement, 1,c,ii,
specifies "one additional computer system", not two.

TeraByte The manual version hasn't been updated. The one you get in license.txt and click to agree to when running make disk is up to date with three total.

K H I have a very old application, WordPerfect 6.1 (a Win95 app), which I miss soooo much. The newer version I purchased, WP X3, to work with my XP system, is a p_ _ _ poor substitute. I also own a license and have the CD for Win95. I tried to get a tech to set up my system to dual boot w/Win95 and XP both installed - just so I could use my older version of WP - but was told that it wouldn't be feasible because I'd get constant blue screens.

NOW I see this program on Bits and, reading the "Real Users Say", it seems that some people have done this without problems. I would really appreciate hearing from the developer about this. Is it doable?

Thanks.

TeraByte yes, of course done all the time. If you hae Win95A you need to keep it within the first 8G of the drive. If your have the OSR2 version it can go other places. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/howto/ has a bunch of tutorials and videos - installations are always the same... create partition ,create boot item, attempt booting that boot item, install to the existing partition, reactivate after installation completes.

Guy Good I am currently a registered user of BootIt Next Generation Version 1.
Is it acceptable to take advantage of this offer to receive the updated
BootIt Next Generation Version 2 when it is released? It seems like
this offer will be in the same price range as the upgrade discount.

Guy Good To: David F. (TeraByte Unlimited Developer)

I switched to posting with Firefox Ver 3.6.2 and it seems to have stopped creating the undefined bug. Earlier I was using IE8 and had the same issue. I reported the problem to the webmaster and he asked me whick web browser I was using. In order to test, I switched to Firefox and if you see this, it seems to work properly.

Thanks for helping us troubleshoot this!

Gustavo Sanchez Excellent software, very easy to use, it works as advertised. Currently I have 4 operating system installed in my HD0, Win XP 32-bit, Win 7 64-bit, Win 98 and even Win 3.1. Works like a charm, I haven't had any problem. I recommend it. Please buy it, in its home page you have a lot of videos that explain how to use the program, no need to read anythings, just watch and listen.

H. H. Hallol,
1.is it possible to use bootit without risk, when the disk is already partitioned by another software (e.g. partition magic or acronis disk director), or may there occur problems?

2. what kind of backup do you recommend for a disk, which has plenty partitions, so that not all data get lost, when bootit may crash?
thank you for answering soonly
with kind regards
H.

TeraByte Right when you create the boot disk using makedisk it allows floppy, ISO, CD/DVD/BD, and UFD (USB Flash Drives). The Floppy (even USB floppy), CD/DVD/BD will always boot like a floppy and allow "welcome to setup" (if created in normal mode). For a UFD, it all depends on the BIOS. Some will boot it fine in normal mode (as a non-partitioned device (big floppy)), some will boot it in that mode as a HD, others will only boot if it's partitioned, others only if partitionex is used. This has to do with limitation of the BIOS programmers implementation of the BIOS support for UFD booting. When it boots as a HD, BING will assume it's already installed and show with a boot menu.

As far as using it with other partitioning software, yes, you can install to a system with existing partitions. You can continue to use other partitioning software provided you use BING in "limited" mode where it only supports 4 primaries. If you enable support for more than 4 then you should only use BING to create/expand partitions. You can use any of the TeraByte Unlimited imaging tools which supports the EMBR which BING uses. It's recommended to use BING for partitioning because it partitions the drive proper standards from the latest Win7 going all the way back to DOS. There are some (Linux) tools that don't.

H. H. Hallo,
thank you for answering promptly. Regarding your answer, I've the following 3 questions:
1. is there a special discount if buying booit and image for windows together today (I know, that image for windows has been offered here seperately, but since I already spent money on buying /upgrading acronis true image and norton ghost, I din't see any need to buy a further imaging software.
But since it doesn't seem to be sure, that norton ghost and acronis backup the embr, buying bootit would make it necessary to spent money for image for windows, whicht would make it quite exprensive)?
2. when using t "no compression" in image for windows, does it allow to directly access /copy,..the backedup files seperately via windows explorer or is the backup nevertheless in a special image format, so that one has to use the image viewer and image software?
3. do you plan to allow saving of sperate folders too (not only whote partition) in the future too?
4. what's about handling virtual machines (e.g. vmware or virtual box)
thank you for answering again
with kind regards
H.

TeraByte If you want the advanced partitioning of more than 4 than you'd want something like Image for Windows (however BING does have basic imaging built in). Otherwise, you can use what you want. Inside bootitng.zip there is a EMBR.ZIP with a readme that shows how you can use other software to fully restore a system with BING using other software. Image for Windows/Linux/DOS already supports restoring indivudal files/folders via tbiview or tbimount (mounted as a windows driver letter). You won't see file/folder level backup in the imaging products because it's not a simple file backup utility (you can find those dime a dozen). VM's are already supported. For VHD/VMDK files direct or within the VM and for any other VM within the VM (virtualbox has some bugs if you have more than 1 HD where only 1 HD is reported so to use BING or IFD within it you may have to use a utility we provide where you can force the number of HD's in the BIOS).

Power Gamer What exactly is the difference between "Std MBR" and "Win7 MBR" options in Partition Work? Manual only mentions that "Win7 MBR is a Windows 7 specific version which may be required for Win7 to boot on certain systems". This is not enough info about the difference for me to decide what kind of MBR would be better to put onto my new HDD. Please explain the difference in more detail (technical details are welcome). Many thanks in advance.
