Maximize Your PC's Performance and Reliability

Think of your computer's hard drive as the soup aisle in your local supermarket. Every file that you have takes up a certain number of cans of soup, so your little printer driver is, say, one can of chicken noodle, but your gigantic graphics suite is 150 cans of tomato.

As your computer reads and writes data, it's constantly taking cans of soup off the shelf and putting other cans back on, and eventually, while all of your soup is still there, it's not all sequentially organized anymore. So you've got chicken-tomato-chicken-tomato-chicken, and when it's time to read that tomato soup file, your computer has to work harder to find all of the tomato soup cans to read the entire data file. This, in not so elegant terms, is what happens when your hard disk becomes fragmented.

You can probably guess what defragging your hard drive means -- taking all of those pieces of data and arranging them back into sequential order on your hard drive, so it's easier and faster to read files. The impact on your application performance is tremendous. Defragging puts all of the tomato soup cans back together in the same spot on the shelf.

DiskMagik is a utility that's intelligently designed to defragment your hard drive. More flexible than the basic disk defrag utility that ships with Windows XP, and easier to use than the one that comes with Vista, DiskMagik delivers better and more powerful features. With DiskMagik, you can choose to run a full defrag, or you can elect to defrag certain key Windows files before Windows boots up. You can even use DiskMagik to run a Proactive Defrag, which runs silently in the background, defragging files in realtime as they become fragmented!

What do you get by using DiskMagik to defrag your internal, external, and USB hard drives? How about faster startup and shutdown times, faster application performance, and fewer system crashes? Worth playing for? Get DiskMagik today!

Disk Frog While it is true that defragmentation is necessary, what I really wonder is the feautres in your software DiskMagik.

I have installed the ffollowing software:

http://www.Defraggler.com
http://www.iobit.com/iobi...efrag.html

Now both the softwares are free.

So I would like to know what are the advantages of your software that gives me an idea to buy it.

Joseph Burke, CEO Rose City Software There are freeware options for most software today. Developers from Third World countries flood the market with knockoffs. If you wish to trust the integrity of your system to an unproven freeware product because you cannot afford a few bucks for really good trusted software, that is your choice. Most of our customers at Rose City Software trust our reputation, our integrity and the way we have stood behind our software for more than a decade. We support our customers 100% and we appreciate their support of our company.

Ken Alexander Wow! "Developers from Third World countries flood the market with knockoffs"?! Your ignorance and your attack on freeware belies the type of person you are and your software company.

Based upon that ignorant comment alone, I would never use your products. Some of the best anti-virus programs on the market are freeware. Several of the best firewalls on the market are freeware. Iobit, Alwil, Avast, Piriform are all "knockoffs"? For most software needs, there is a freeware product as good or better than most commercial products!

Geez, Disk Frog asked you about the advantages of your product over software, and you can't/didn't even answer the question. Instead, you have to resort to bad-mouthing freeware?! That tells me a lot about you and your company......very sad.
Sep 10 2009 at 5:17pm
Rik Mayell For your information, the developers of the freeware software mention are based in the West End, London and Hong Kong. Hardly Third World locations.

Both of these applications use the standard Windows defragmentation API calls so it seems extremely unlikely that they would compromise the safety of anyone's system. Are you by chance suggesting that your software doesn't use this API and therefore does endanger system safety?

Joseph Burke Look be my guest... use garbage freeware with zero support or backup and risk your system. Unlike you jokers, I have have spent thousands of hours working with programmers from China, India and Russia and I *know* how much junk comes out of those countries (and many others as well) and just how many bugs there are. I am STILL trying to get my sound card capablities back to normal after a recent bout with a driver updater. If I valued my time at just $5 an hour which is probably what you do, I have already wasted more time than the $15. If you cannot afford $15 for a piece of software you obviously don't use your computer for anything much more than computer games and are not a customer of Rose City Software, not are you worth wasting our time conversing with on message boards. This will be my last post to this board... all future notifications will be deleted.

freeware developer I am a freeware developer who buys quite a bit of software from BDJ. I live in Ohio and am retired from a major telecommunications company where I spent many years developing quality software and managing it's development. No one risks their system using my freeware.

You were asked to provide the advantages of using your software and your response was to say freeware is garbage? That doesn't speak well of you or your company. Hard to find those advantages, is it?

Disk Frog TO EVERYONE (Excluding developers of DiskMagik)

At the time of placing my message above, I was sincere considering to buy DiskMagik. I thought stupidly that it may really have many features that I could not identify and understand.

However, what I did not speculate is the features available with the software but not included in the software. That was the answer and behaviour of the developers. THATS A FEATURE IN ITSELF, is'nt it?

I sincerely thank the developers to make me understand the additional features tht none of the above participating parties knew about it. I sincerely thank participants to bark on the developers to precisely identify those features and help me out to accurately understand those features.

Looking at those additional features, i have decided something that is not difficult at all to speculate, if I am going to buy DiskMagik of not. You can decide and speculate. I am sure you are correct. Once again, thanks for help in making up my mind. The community here is extremely helpful in identifying thosae additional features.....

freeware skeptic I'm quite the skeptic of freeware myself as it is often made by someone who makes it for a specific need they have and a lot of it is simply abandoned afterwards.. HOWEVER, this is not nearly always true and the comments about all freeware being knockoff junk from 3rd world countries (perhaps he meant the third reich?) has got to be some of the most retarded bullshit ive ever read..

go freeware! now.. someone go tell peter to get his ass in gear finishing par3!

Frank Stephens OK, folks, let's try to get this thread back on track, which may not be possible if the developer won't respond. Disk Frog opened with a legitimate question, which Joseph Burke didn't address in an appropriate manner. What's more bizarre is that Rose City Software has a large freeware list on their own website. I use a commercial product, PerfectDisk, because of its features and performance, and because the commercial defragmenters, at least the big-name ones, are less likely to brick your PC than freeware, because they have commercial liability and are much more responsive than freeware defragmenters to reports of issues with moving certain files (this is separate from the Windows Defragmentation API, which all decent defragmenters use).
Sep 14 2009 at 8:25am
Mr Espresso Actually, my drive was bricked by one of the "big name ones" , DiskKeeper, a few years ago from a bad boot time defrag. Disktrix UltimateDefrag "fragged" my system partition last year as well. So far, I haven't had problems with any freeware defragger.
Sep 14 2009 at 9:25am
Mr Espresso DiskMagik appears to be a rebadged MSTDefrag whose regular price is $15.90.
Sep 14 2009 at 9:29am
Disk Frog Hello,

Well, you guys are trying to bring the thread back to the technical sense of it. But if the developers offer such a strange discussion or answer to my sincere question, would someone be kind to say why a paid defragging is neccessary at all.

I see that Frank Stephens recommended PerfectDisk and Espresso says DiskKeeper. They are paid software.

But I never really had problems with or even without any defragging utility. I use the free ones and they just bring the data into line and organise them. Not less and not more.

Considering the speed with which a disk rotates, 7200 rpm, do we really need for smaller applications paid defragging? If yes, would something like the one in th deal serve the purpose? Does it make sense to really pay more.

Now I am much more confused than before.
Sep 14 2009 at 9:36am
Ken Alexander Do a Google search for "best free disk defragmenter" and you'll come up with lots of hits. There are several out there. I don't want to mention them out of respect for the developers here, but there are 3 that are as good or better than the paid versions.
Sep 14 2009 at 1:08pm
L. Kari While there certainly is a great deal of garbage freeware out there, it should be noted that there is also a lot of garbage commercial software. That software has a price tag attached is no guarantee of quality, nor does 'free' necessarily equate to junk. For example, one of the freeware programs the original poster referenced is by the same people that produce CCleaner, which is a very highly respected free utility.

DiskMagik may very well be an excellent program. It is unfortunate that their CEO has responded so very badly to a simple and legitimate question about what sets his software apart, and makes it worth purchasing. While it was amusing to watch, it cannot help but have a bad impact on the reputation of his company.
Sep 16 2009 at 8:39am
Tom Corey Are the freeware programs offered by Rose City Software also garbage and knock-offs?

http://www.rosecitysoftwa...tware.html
Sep 16 2009 at 8:45am
Steve M. Wow, what a response from the developer. Somebody asks what advantages the software provides over other tools and the developer goes off on potential customers. Then he says he's wasted more time than $15 and won't waste any more on us!

I assume that Rose City wanted to sell more than one $15 license, so only putting $15 worth of his valuable time in here seems a bit cheap, too.

At least I know what company to avoid from now on.
Sep 16 2009 at 12:12pm
Jack C BDJ deals provide a marketing opportunity for software developers to promote their products and demonstrate their service ethos and performance (e.g. by their responsiveness to queries and comments).

On this basis alone Rose City Software has failed miserably. Clearly, an opportunity lost.
