Portable Password Protection

We used to have too many passwords to remember. But now, more and more sites are asking us "extra security questions". And if we don't answer using the exact phrases and spelling we did when we set them up, we can say goodbye to any hope of logging into the site.

But fortunately, we use eWallet. It manages our passwords, credit cards, and other important confidential information, and lets us include all the other info we seem to need these days. Like our favorite pet, our high school mascot (we had a mascot?), our 3 digit CVV numbers, and all the other info that we seem to need these days to prove who we are.

Petr I have used this for many years, since before the first iPhone. It has a desktop program to type info and use for secure access to passwords, credit cards, web sites, driver's license, combination lock numbers.... It is very flexible and syncs changes (two ways) with my iPhone & iPad versions of eWallet.

One thing this program is missing, a fast keyword search. If I want to find my password to the web site account for my utility bill, I have to navigate a tree to find where I filed my Utility Company's Card. I would rather have the use of a quick key-word search that uses an index of all my entered data. I hope you can add such a feature soon?

I would recommend this program but only for a small number of Cards. I would certainly install this on my other systems if I could use it to manage all my secure info & retrieve by key-word search.

Ilium Software Hi Petr,

Thanks for writing.

Some time ago we added "live search" to eWallet for Windows PC -- this feature basically starts you out in a search field when you start up eWallet -- start typing and eWallet immediately starts searching.

You can always try eWallet out too with our 30-day trial version: http://www.iliumsoft.com/...s/download

Hope that helps!

Petr Thank you for your reply.
I would like to put eWallet on a new Windows 8 Pro computer and upgrade my existing eWallet on Windows & Pro. Here's some questions:

a. My eWallet on my Windows 7 Pro computer is version 7.2.1.31233. Is there a newer version? If so, how do I upgrade?

b. I do not see the search feature (keyword search) that you mentioned. How do I enable it?

c. For my new PC with Windows 8 Pro, does the Windows 8 version of eWallet have all the features and config options and sync options that are in the regular PC version?

d. Can i install both the Windows 8 and Windows 7 versions of eWallet on the same PC? Can they share the same database? I don't always like the New UI of Windows 8, I'd like to edit detailed records in the classic Windows Desktop. How do I have both?

Thank you.

Danny For USB sticks?

Ilium Software Hi Danny,

We don't have any plans to support eWallet itself running on a USB stick, although you can certainly store your wallet files there.

Ilium Software Hi again Petr,

Please feel free to contact us directly at http://www.iliumsoft.com/contactus.

The latest version of eWallet for Windows PC is 7.4.2, if you have a license for version 7 already, then just download the latest from http://www.iliumsoft.com/...s/download.

You should see the live search field immediately above the tree of categories and cards. This feature was added in 7.3, so you wouldn't see it in the version you currently have installed.

Finally, yes, you can have the Windows 8 (separate purchase from the Windows Store) installed on the same PC as eWallet for WIndows PC and they can share the same wallet files. Please be aware though that the Windows 8 version does not currently have many of the features (e.g., SyncPro synchronization) that are available on some of the other platforms.

Henry Kiecman How about a deal on the Android version, especially if you have the PC version already

Software Guy EWallet is a handy utility for keeping password and credit card info. And they also have listpro, a small but handy utility for generating lists. Check them out.

ILIUM: Your checkout does not seem to be working properly. And whatever happened to deskware, the little utility that put a clock and calendar on top of a slideshow?? Seems like a timeless utility to me. Add a reminder (popup or sticky notes) and you have a winner.

Petr I have eWallet on my iPhone, iPad and my primary Windows 7 Pro PC. I see you have a new Windows 8 editions for the new Windows 8 UI. Does my license include the Windows 8 version? If not, can I use today's BitsDuJour deal to buy the Windows 8 version?

Also, Can I install both the PC (desktop version) AND the Windows 8 UI version on the SAME Windows 8 computer and use them concurrently (accessing the same database file)?

Ilium Software Hi Petr,

First, thank you very much for being an eWallet customer.

The license on BDJ is for the Windows PC version and does not include a license to the separate Windows Store version; that version is sold by Microsoft and we don't have the ability to do sales there yet.

The version on BDJ does run on the Windows 8 Desktop though, see our KB articles for details on the different app types: http://www.iliumsoft.com/...dows-8-App.

You can have both versions installed on a Windows 8 PC (I do that) but you should not have them accessing the wallet file at the same time.

Hope that helps.

Dierk Have used eWallet for years, and it has proved both very reliable and extremely useful.

Recently picked up a Galaxy Note 2, and eWallet was the first application loaded.

As with the Windows PC version, the Android release includes a Search dialog on the opening screen. This is often the easiest way to find an entry, but also appreciate the ability to Organize cards by Categories / Sub-Categories.

eWallet/Android had no problems syncing with my desktop copy, which, in turn, has no problems syncing with my "old" Windows Mobile device.

As the "core" app in the group, highly recommend eWallet for PC - although with the Disclaimer that usage has been under Windows 7 (and earlier).

(FYI: The Android version is not as robust as even the Windows Mobile release. It is perfectly useful as a Storage database, but less so for Adding / Editing / Configuration.)
